I fished that coastline in 1980, was 14 then. We stayed in Port Elizabeth and my dad and I fished as far as Cape st Francis. The bait was below our feet in the wet sand.

I would recommend an 11 foot rod that can cast 2-4oz sinker and a 4000 or 5000 size reel with 20-30lb line, should be a good beginner setup.
