ABBA, one of the greatest bands ever! It was made up of 2 Swedish couples. Bjorn, the guitarist married Ag Ethan the blonde girl and Benny the pianist married Ani-Frid aka Frida or Annie the Auburn haired girl. that's where ABBA comes from, the initials of their first names. They were the first to make videos of their songs. They smartley wanted to preserve their songs and looks. This was way before mtv videos. They started it all. They have sold over 400 million records, only the Beatles have sold more! Huge cataloge. Try Fernando, Chiquitita, Take A Chance On Me, and another great disco song Voules vous. By the way after 40 years, last year they put out a new album called voyager. Incredible. Their voices haven't changed. They have a theatre in London where they put on concerts using avatars aka ABBAtars . So real. Not holigrams. Sold out every night

Perfectly said, nor would anyone with much knowledge of the Bee Gees tag them as a strictly disco group. They're two of the most talented, likable groups in history, who happened to produce great songs that were eminently danceable.🤔

@@rebeccalipps23 "Dancing Queen" is a song in the pop and dance genre, although many music critics and publicists also classify it as a disco song, despite not containing several distinctive elements of this genre. The melody is composed in 4/4 time, in the key of A major and a tempo of 100 beats per minute.

Abba were the first group that made videos to promote every single they released on radio, they only made 2 world tours , just once in the US. Their promotion system worked so fine that MTV was born . By the way they were the first group to appear on a CD. Their video director has won 3 Oscars for some of his movies , it was the 70’s and the intention was to expose their image not to create a great video with an average/bad song , which is the case right now

Abba was basically pure pop music. In their whole discography of more than 100 songs only nearly 10 of them were disco. One was this from 1976,2 more followed in 1978,5 more in 1979 and 1 was from 1980.Despite the merciless and unfair critical abuse from the rock music media, Abba were adored from the public who put them on the map and built their kingdom.I'm pretty honoured f that you 3 black people coming from different music culture gave this legendary classic an approval reacting so positively to it.Thank U!Suggestions?Next disco-ish bangers,TAKE A CHANCE ON ME/IF IT WASN"T FOR THE NIGHTS/GIMME!GIMME!GIMME!/VOULEZ_VOUS

Hard do draw a line between disco and non-disco pop music though. "Disco" was essentially just funky danceable music played on a disc player, hence the term "disc-o". Abba had several pop/rock-ish (even new wave or fusion-ish) tunes with a disco touch, or vice versa. Also a couple of more purely funk style songs, like My Mama Said.

@@christianoazzuro6711 I agree on the first one :) Most of their studio players had good jazz chops, although not showed off very often. (The MITM track feels a bit stiff or constrained to me. The song is not problematic. Teenagers have parties, and clubs. They went out to dance, and of course they flirted. They’re telling a story that doesn’t involve an adult and child, but teenagers. You could take it for the surface lyrics or apply double entendre, as many songs had two meanings. And even with the double entendre, no adults are involved. And though the song is talking about dancing, best believe this was played at the roller rinks. I have to partially correct myself. Somehow all these years I missed the lyrics, “looking for a lover”. That being said, it is still mild compared to what kids listen to these days.

I was 10 when this song came out, dancing to it in my bedroom in front of the mirror trying to be like these 2 lovely ladies. These gorgeous ladies Agnetha ( the blonde) and Anni-frid ( the brunette) were famous child singers in Sweden, way before forming the band. The boys were also in Swedish bands. They are 2 married couples, they were married before starting the band. They are all still involved in music to this day, but not as a group. One interesting song of theirs is The Winner Takes it All. It was written by Bjorn and sung by his wife Agnetha just after they got divorced. The band broke up shortly after. They were considered to be POP, specifically Euro Pop. They won a contest in Europe with their hit song Waterloo which also burst them onto the music scene. They went on the be one of the most hit producing bands of all time, even to this day. Some favorites of mine, Chiquittita, The name of the Game, Take a chance on me, Lay all your love on me, super trouper, I have a dream...just to name a few....haha. They are my all time favorite band, I'm a superfan. I love to see you enjoying them 💚💜

Hello guys, so nice to see you for first time, with a reaction to the biggest ABBA worldwide hit (a correction to You: ABBA wasn't a disco group, and Dancing Queen wasn't a disco music) These is ABBA, the iconic Swedish pop quartet, the best, most versatile and most important of the 70s, in the post BEATLES decade (the revolutionary group of the 60s) ABBA, as in its time BEATLES, was a musical and cultural phenomenon, and its legacy lives on ABBA is the biggest musical act in the history of both continental Europe and the non-English speaking world They are the first non-English speaking group to have considerable success in major English-speaking countries And is the first group to break with the hegemony of NorthAmerican, English and Australian artists in the music market dominated by British culture. ABBA is an acronim with the initials of their first names; initialy was two swedish couples too: A- Agnetha (blonde lead vocal) & B- Björn (guitarist and songwriter) B- Benny (pianist and songwriter) & A- Anni Frid (brunette lead vocal) (both couples separated before the breakup of the group in 1982) "Dancing Queen" is their biggest worldwide hit and ABBA flagship song it was #1 in a lot of countries al over the world in 1976, included the only #1 to ABBA at US Billboard in 1977 ABBA recording between 1972/1982, have a wonderful series of more than 20 worldwide hits, included nine #1 in UK: Waterloo Mamma Mia Fernando Dancing Queen Knowing me knowing you The name of the game Take a chance on me The winner takes it all Super trouper And after more than 35 years ABBA return to studio in 2017 and recording a full new album "Voyage" between 2017/2021 released in November 2021 and is a worldwide succes (with four nominations to Grammys awards 2023, two for the album and two for one of their comeback songs, among one before to 2022 edition) And in last May 2022 all four ABBA members asist to the premiere of the new Voyage concerts (with avatars of Theirself) in the new ABBA Arena at London UK (another greatest success,, with tickets on sale to November 2023) The ages of all ABBA members now is 72 Agnetha Fältskog ; 76 Benny Andersson 77 Björn Ulvaeus & Anni Frid (Frida) I hope to see more reactions to ABBA GOD bless you my best regards from Buenos Aires Argentina 🇦🇷 South America

Thank you clarifying that ABBA was not a disco group. I'm learning more and more about this wonderful group. If you have other song suggestions, please let us know. :-)

ABBA was NOT a disco group, but disco was emerging and this WAS a definite nod to disco music. Later on, other songs had that specifically disco beat - namely, Voulez-Vous, and Gimme, Gimme, Gimme. They were not incorrect in thinking that Dancing Queen is a disco song. Where would the girl be dancing, when the lights are low, looking out for a place to go? She is the Queen of the dance floor, not a ballroom dance floor, but a discotheque dance floor. Their return with Voyage was after 40 years exactly.
