"Born to Run" is a song written and performed by American singer-songwriter Bruce Springsteen. It was released as the title track of his third studio album, "Born to Run," in 1975. The song is often considered one of Springsteen's signature songs and has become an anthem of sorts for the working class and those seeking freedom and escape.
"Born to Run" captures the spirit of youthful rebellion and the desire to break free from the constraints of a small town and mundane life. It features a wall of sound production, incorporating elements of rock and roll, pop, and Phil Spector's "Wall of Sound" technique.
The song's lyrics tell the story of two lovers, the narrator and his girlfriend, as they attempt to escape their hometown and find a life of adventure and excitement. They long to run away together, leaving behind the confines of their small town and pursuing their dreams.
With its driving rhythm, powerful vocals, and poetic lyrics, "Born to Run" encapsulates Springsteen's ability to capture the dreams, struggles, and aspirations of the working class. The song has remained a staple of Springsteen's live performances and has been hailed as one of the greatest rock songs ever recorded.

I’ve grown to appreciate the Born in the USA album. It’s about the decay of American cities and the blue collar working man. All these years later, it’s still a powerful indictment and commentary on the USA. Listen to the lyrics of “Born in the USA…” it’s not what you think.

I agree, Born In The USA needs a close listen, or it seems like patriotic nonsense. But it's actually about Viet Nam veterans returning from war and finding things hostile. He played it for many of them to make sure he was telling their story and feelings accurately.

Tom Petty told a pretty cool story about playing at a large Rock Festival where Bruce Springsteen was the Headliner. The two bands that performed before Bruce and the E-Street Band we’re Jackson Brown and Tom Petty and the Heart Breakers. Both Rock legends in their own rights. As Jackson Brown finished up his set and came back stage Tom Petty asked him how it went on-stage. Jackson Brown responded that it it went pretty well but told Tom Petty that if it sounds like the audience is booing them to not let it throw them as they weren’t booing but chanting “Bruce!”. Tom Petty replied “Hell that’s even worse!”. 😂😂

Bruce was "The Boss" because of that live clips they showed in here. His Live performances were, and are, legendary. And he didn't really have any pop 'hits' until Born In The USA, yet he was still legendary because of blue collar lyrics and his epic Live shows. 3 hours+ every night gets you famous if you're good at it.

@@BadgerBJJ 🎼You nailed it 100%. It all happened with Ronald Reagan and his “Trickle Down Economics”. They busted the middle class by busting the Unions. Those good old Republicans did it all. Like I said, you nailed it and I helped by slamming my hammer too. By the way, Springsteen is a Democrat…🎼

I've had the pleasure of seeing Bruce a number of times. At the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ. On the street a couple of times and everyday for about 6 months in 1988. At the time I was in the Marine Corps and stationed near my home town. One of the guys had served in the Navy with Bruce's manager and somehow he ended up using a large area in our building to rehearse for his upcoming tour. Every day around noon the band showed up and practiced for hours, met the whole group.

At one of his shows in 2008, this song was playing. I was in the stadium seating behind the stage and there was a very intoxicated fan in front of us. With the full band going, house lights flashing, we were all high fiving each other until this guy started leaning back further...and further. Finally, a bunch of us grabbed him by the shirt so he wouldn't fall because he had lost his balance. He regained his footing and kept partying like nothing had happened. It was hilarious and genuinely a fun experience. What I like about this video is that it shows how much the band puts into their concerts. Especially when the wife is left at home - the boys play a little extra hard!

I agree that Bruce Springsteen isn't the greatest vocalist - especially live (the studio version of this song sounds better) but he and his band have great energy and intensity. He's also a brilliant song-writer. Other artists have done his songs too - including "Fire" by the Pointer Sisters.

Yep...another case of - "not a great voice, but a great singer." I've always loved Bruce's vocals...well, up until about the early 90s. They started to change then and have been on a rapid decline the last 20 years. I feel bad for the singers who lose their ability with age. It's not like a guitar where you can just keep buying new strings.

Bruce springsteen is one of the great American songwriters he always tells stories in his lyrics. He is the songwriter, producer and director of his Band which he put together when he was nineteen and he is going again in tour in 2024 with that original Band except for two members that passed away the sax player that he replaced him with his nephew and the organ player that he also replaced with an awesome one.

Give me an artist that's raw and real over one that may have greater range and does lots of voice tricks but is putting on a show, any day! For the same reason I love seeing someone dance that is not concerned at all with how it looks over someone that has perfect muscle control and is very aware. I mean I can respect both but the first will hit me straight in the heart and soul. Bruce Springsteen, I mean I don't have his albums or know a whole lot about him but there are definitely songs that hit me in the heart. This is not one of them, but who cares when millions of others will :) Have a great day all!

Springsteen did a one man Broadway show a few years back where he talks about growing up and milestones in his life. Mixed in are songs from different eras of his career. He starts by saying that he, Mr. Born To Run, Mr. Thunder Road...has to get out and see the world.....now lives 10 minutes from where he grew up in Jersey. A more grounded and humble superstar is hard to find.
