Hi Victor, thanks for the video! im super interested in getting it for my own freelance work. I would love to know more about its low light capability, like how does it do at 3200 iso or 6400? on S-log or even Cine 2
@VictorLaforteza2 жыл бұрын
@@JackRea sounds great! I will add it on the list. To answer your question now, at 3200 ISO and 6400 on SLOG3 is kinda noisy. More noticeable than usual. In a pinch it might work but overall I'd stick with 800 & 2500. I still have to test Cine, HLG, and S cintone with this thing :)

I'd even argue that from a PRACTICAL aspect (got to consider real world aspects) then the FX30 is **better** than the FX3 at low light.
@ElieBenzekri2 жыл бұрын
@@davidconsumerofmath why do u think that ? The sensor size is still doing a lot on high iso.
@VictorLaforteza2 жыл бұрын
@@ElieBenzekri It's mostly because the 2nd base ISO of the FX3/A7Siii is 12800 and that is too high on real world run and gun lighting. I almost never use it on my FX3 unless I'm really in a pinch or shooting a super low light event that it needs to see in the dark.

Thank you so much for making and posting this video! After all the hype about the FX30 I’ve seen the tide turn with negative reviews. As about 50% of my projects are “run and gun” wedding films work, I love that you made this lowlight example with the FX30. I preordered mine about a month ago (still waiting cause it’s on back order 😔) and I began to second guess my purchase with the negative reviews coming out. Many ceremony and reception locations don’t offer good lighting and the FX3 always comes through for me. I normally rent a second one for my second shooter but have wanted to get a second camera so I wouldn’t have to any longer. When they announced the FX30 I was stoked to purchase something that could give me the same look but not break the bank. I love its battery life, that you can use a dummy battery or USB-C power input or the factory battery, and the compatibility. I have in my case PL and EF adapters, and now I'm all set! Paired with the basic Sony 18-105 F4 lens, it'll shoot anything! Handheld, it has OSS and IBIS, but that also gives super-smooth panning on tripods and dollies. Very nice video, congrattulation to you. I've just bought an FX30, can't wait to receive the box ! Btw, I'm not sur of what you mean by shooting in Slog3 800 and 2500 Iso. Did you shoot your video in Ciné EI, and Manually changes Iso from 800 to 2500 depending of the scene ? Or did you just use a Picture profile with Slog3
@VictorLaforteza2 жыл бұрын
Cine EI will automatically shoot in 800 and 2500 ISO for you, just the matter of what Cine EI value you want your shot to be. I usually shoot for the highlights but with the fx30 I had to just over expose a tiny bit so there are less noise in the shadows. Also, for people who would use flexible ISO shooting mode, I would always just set it to either 800 or 2500 ISO for the cleanest image possible. Hope that helps clear things out. Generally your getting a stop more noise on aps-c, but with each generation of processor it's getting better, so really the newest aps-c is about as good as the last full frame in terms of noise and dynamic range. I think if you were okay with A7III, then usually you'll be okay with FX30. The only real differences that don't go away are wide angle options, DoF, and size. If none of those are your concern then aps-c is a great choice. You're likely to even get more battery life and better stabilisation.

Once you equalize for DoF (as you need to consider the practical aspects of shooting) then FF and ASP-C will have near on *identical* noise levels for any ISO. (for the same generation sensors etc) And wide angle options are eaassssyyyy to find for APS-C / Super35! Just a single lens such as a Tamron 11-20mm f2.8 could solve all your UWA needs.

For this one, I'd ask the best camera settings and lens you used, but I believe you answered all that within the video and comments. I just need to read through them again as well as take another view of the video. I currently do that have the Sigma 16 and 30mm F1.4 Contemporary lenses. Any idea if these would get me in the ballpark? Oh...and yeah, the song you used in this video is killer!!!

@@jacobsnightmare1807 The lenses you have are perfect! Primes are your best friends in low light scenes. It should get you very far paired with the fx30. Ha! thank you. glad it was a good song choice!

@@VictorLaforteza Hey Victor! Quick question for you. I'm testing the FX30 today. I record at 24fps over 50 Shutter Speed. When I take the footage and drop it in Resolve, it states the FPS of the video is different than the project setting, which I set as 24 also. So, same as my camera when shooting. However, Resolve sees it as 23.976 FPS. I searched around, and it seems pretty common, but I can't seem to find a simple answer to this. I can just change the video to go with the project settings of 24 fps, but not sure if that will mess anything up. So I'm pretty confused. Thanks, Victor!

Fantastic footage at night- so little noise...Did you do noise-reduction in post (and if so - Resolve's NR??)
@VictorLaforteza2 жыл бұрын
no noise reduction in post :) If you switch to 4k, you'll actually see the amount of noise on some shots. Most of it is hidden in the KZbin compression but that being said, the noise values are almost on a good level with the FX30
@robertaltman2222 жыл бұрын
@@VictorLaforteza Impressive- just a little NR in post would ‘seal the deal’ (and I find Resolve does a great job with this very quickly with M1 Macs at least…)! Now I just need my FX30 to actually ship!
@VictorLaforteza2 жыл бұрын
@@robertaltman222 I'm actually surprised that my m1 mac mini can handle the codecs pretty well! It does slow down when you add grain or NR but its smooth at 1/2 playback on resolve. Excited for you and your fx30!
