Absolutely love this song. Also like Karen Carpenter singing this. Somehow this just hits me more.

At her peak, nobody could touch her. Here she is..at her peak. A lesson in how to sing/interpret a very difficult Bacharach/David song and still make it your own. The judicious use of some r&b riffs at the end.."oh baby, except when to leeeaaaaave..." Sheer Brilliance.

I never knew how big Dusty was through the 60's. It was breathtaking to realize that here is a great performer who is hardly mentioned these days. Talent -wise you could put all the singing chicks from now, put them in a box, and they would not fill up the box like Dusty would. I can't understand how a talent like this gets no mention.

Dusty soaring through this song up until 1:33 when she brings it down to a whisper and than back up to a soar. Such vocal control and prowess. A very demanding melody line and she pulls it out of the hat beautifully. Plus, tempo being a little slow makes it all the harder to pull it off. Only one Dusty.

Indeed, I classically trained for years and years, and on,y in that discipline, and mapping out a pathway can an artist achieve true vocal freedom and just sing on the emotion. But the work needs to be done. No short cuts in quality.

I often wonder how a song like this gets written..... I mean did Hal David write three uneven, non-scanning lines like... Go while the going is good Knowing when to leave can be the smartest thing that anyone can learn Go. .....and then fax them to the composer, with a note "OK Crackerjack, fit something to that" Burt: "Hold my beer" Bacharach said that he was happy not to be a great pianist - if he was, he said, he felt that his hands would trap him in all the stuff he'd done before. As far as musical quirkiness/innovation goes, it worked for him and Hal !
