This episode hit very hard for me. I listened at 5am after my 2 year old son woke me up and I couldn't get back to sleep. In the quiet of the morning and in my supple, half dreamy state, the reciting of Jung from the Red Book hit me like a ton of bricks. I'm on holiday at the moment, I sneaked out of bed and jumped in the ocean before sunrise. Had a pseudo baptism of sorts as the sun rose and was back in bed by 6.30. Have been grappling with much of what was discussed. So, thank you!

I love that this episode had brought up the yin yang aspects of the hero and the journey of righteousness in life. When one becomes overly righteous, they become disconnected from the grace that is needed for the proper development of our youth. Thank you.

I found this very helpful in the way it raised issues about both the positives and negatives associated with the heroic. Would it be possible to have a similar discussion around the value of sacrifice? It also has it's destructive aspects, I think. Loved the reading from the Red Book which was beautifully delivered.

This was fascinating. I loved the poem, stories, and examples of everyday heroism. I also loved the discussion about how absurdity and meaning are entwined like dark and light, each leading to the other. Thank you for another wonderful exploration. 😉

In this modern life (; not takeing the flatline culture in , is a heroic act by its self . and yet, the missions, for me, is to find a place that this heroic act , does not consume too much of my life energy

I like the way you said that. I agree but i think it gets easier with time spent in hard work, the new place will arrive around you.

The boar in the dream made me think of (bore)dom. One has to be cut into by boredom to use it in any useful way. Rather than unconsciously fleeing from it, to extend into it? What is boredom? I’d be interested to hear your thoughts on the potential differences during the midlife experience for introverts and extroverts. May an introvert be better served be extending into the outer environment as the inner is already (ideally?) well explored terrain and vice versa? I’m almost certain there are exceptions to every rule but I’d be interested to understand this further. Really interesting ideas about the hero archetype working through other archetypes.

Camus' The Stranger paralleled the rise of a new type of film hero: The Graduate, Midnight Cowboy, Rebel Without a Cause, Bonny and Clyde, Easy Rider, Little Big Man, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Conversation, The Color of Money, Cool Hand Luke, The Shootest, The Last Picture Show, The Grey Fox, Who Is Harry Kellerman and Why Is He Saying These Thinks About Me?

I think a lot of journalists are heros who die to do their job correctly, like Julian Assange, ever since he showed that video of Iraqi journalists being gunned down by a US helicopter he paid the price and has sacrificed so much personally. I wonder if it is not the best thing to do to be self sacrificing for a greater good?

Superman does have a sense of humor though, it just comes out more as Clark than as Superman and given what he has to deal with, one can see why.

Oh no not Greta I don't think she she is a hero, she is being made out to be a hero. The real heros they wouldn't give a voice like that at the UN. The world is a stage!
