Getting dressed from makeup to shoes makes such a difference in motivation! I prefer having comfortable house shoes because it truly helps if you're going to be up on your feet cooking and cleaning (I may kick them off here and there to relax, but for the most part they are so underrated.) Also, I keep a dishwashing wand filled with dish soap and vinegar in my shower for the cleaning (awesome viral tiktok hack). I love how Flylady's method keeps you on top of things so the housework doesn't get so overwhelming (something I have really struggled with). For me, overwhelm leads to procrastination and paralysis. It's a vicious cycle.

I used to get Fly Lady's emails years ago. This is a great reminder. Also, I bought a pair of sandals that are my "inside shoes" so I don't track dirt and whatnot.

Great idea to have a 7 day baby step intro - that’s a perfect compromise. What I love best about flylady is how can be adapted to each household’s specific needs. I find that it helps to be flexible, it’s okay (maybe even better?) to adjust routines and zone lists as you move along. Things change! It’s amazing how this process works, even when one isn’t “perfect.” It almost sounds too good to be true, but it really works!

Thank you for sharing Tabitha! I personally have to wear shoes in the home to save my back! You were the first person in my life to encourage me to improve my mindset in homemaking; even washing the dishes can be an act of worship (honoring the Lord in carrying for your family) I've been working to really internalize this concept and with the Lord's grace, He will keep growing me in this area and MORE. Method has a “daily” shower cleaner meant to be sprayed over your wet shower after you’re done daily. It definitely isn’t a deep clean but it makes it easier to clean the shower when you do get to really clean it.

Before I started fly lady I had such a hard time prioritizing household “stuff” and I’m not just talking about cleaning but taking care of important things and taking care of myself. I used to get so distracted by all of the clutter and toys laying around I would spend all day picking up and straightening but my house was still not clean somehow. It feels really ridiculous that I need someone to tell me to clean my toilet and plan supper everyday before 5 o clock but it was so necessary for me 😅. I need to work on incorporating more of her routine, I’ve gotten out of the habit of doing some of the tasks. However, the weekly home blessing is something that stuck hard, and is my favorite part of the routine. I aim to complete the home blessing tasks on Monday and many times I start on Saturday. It feels so good to have those special little tasks done that actually make me feel good about myself. Also, doing the swish and swipe is life changing!

I also try to start on Saturday! It’s easier for me to stick with the same, short 15 minutes-per-day routine. But if the weekend gets too busy, I can still try get it all done on Monday!

Love this video, thank you. I personally wear a special pair of flip flops for the house only. This makes me feel dressed for the day but I still get to wear comfy shoes that also give me support throughout the day.

So motivating and encouraging! I really like how the routines stack on top of each other and what you start doing first is usually the most helpful/important. So if something happens (e.g. illness in the house) and the full schedule can't be maintained just doing the morning schedule/evening routines is enough to keep some semblance of order for the day.

Homemaking rule #1 - be adaptable and teachable! You have to be able to chew the hay and spit out the sticks. For us personally, we believe in the health benefits of being barefoot, so my children and I are barefoot as much as possible. Also, we use vinegar and water for a bulk of cleaning meaning we can easily use vinegar and water in the shower while it’s running without worrying about cleaning chemicals. Even so, I’m still going to wait until I’m out of the shower to wipe it down because I don’t want to waste water.

I ha e hard water and ,y toilet bowl got a couple spots of calcium deposit (I guess that's what it is) that I could not get off. This discouraged me and I let the toilet go even more. Before I knew it I had A LOT of calcium deposit spots that I couldn't get off. That toilet bowl looked like something out of a horror movie. Well, I decided I would try a pumice stone again and this time I wasn't giving up. It took like 2.5 hours and one whole pumice stone but that toilet bowl looks almost brand new. I don't think I'll ever let that happen again.
