We ended up exchanging this model for the slimmer version kzbin.infoUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU because it was too wide for the only door trim area that made sense to mount it on. However, we should have just noted the dimensions prior to purchasing. Otherwise, we love the doorbell. It works perfectly, and the video is very clear, even at night.

A couple things that aren’t great here. First of all, running a wire through the stairwell isn’t a great option and puts it at risk for being damaged. Most older doorbells produce a ding-dong sound. If yours is giving a ding-click or a click-dong sound, remove the chime unit's cover and see if the lower plate has had one of its round rubber retainers break loose, which has allowed the plate to drop out of place. These can be replaced with an O-ring, a metal drain plug gasket that contains an inner rubber ring, or even a bread tie wrapped around the post a few times. It sounds primitive but it saves the expense of a new chime unit.

These chines were a pain when everyone wanted them to work with Ring doorbell system, we had to figure out the hard way a couple times. The Ring system comes with a small power pack and hooks up from the trans to the front and mounted within the chime box, if you want the back door to ring then you need another power pack if there is another Ring in the rear. So if your using an digital or electronic chine DO NOT out the diode on the buttons, in both instances we used them they wound up burning out the chime, and the power pack, the other time it messed up the Ring doorbell itself, the power pack is sufficient, just wire the Ring or any smart doorbell with your standard two wires no diodes. The Ring doorbell will ring first and about one or two second delay it will ring the chime as well. Now if it’s a standard doorbell sometimes they all don’t work, check to see what compatible chimes from the manufacture that will work with the power pack. Hope this helps someone.
@thelonestranger7772 жыл бұрын
I have a question that hopefully you can answer. So I hooked up the ring doorbell yesterday and since the home had hardwire, I decided to connect it. Simple enough but after 2 or 3 doorbell ring cycles, it stops working. As soon as I disconnect the wires and reconnect them, it works for another couple rings before stopping again. The ring app says it's still hardwired. I didn't have too much time to troubleshoot. Any idea what the issue might be?

What if I have proper voltage at the transformer and switch but when you press the Button, only 2 volts at the chime?
@NMranchhand7 жыл бұрын
If you are checking voltage without the wires hooked to the chime, it's a resistance in the wire between there and your button. If when hooked up, make sure that the plunger is free to move in the tube and then do a continuity test in the coil of wires that make up the tunnel the plunger moves in. Energizing this coil creates the magnetic field that moves the steel plunger. one of the wires coming out of the coil may also be shorting against the metal frame of the device. For more on this, look up repairing the electromechanical switches in the Lionel 1121 Train Switches; they are darn near identical.

They skip over common issues that trash the whole system include damaged db wire in door casing from remodel or door replacement, hidden transformer because you didn't have a mindful electrician who put it on/by the panel or by the furnace and the someone finished the basement ceiling. Typically it is the button or the transformer that goes bad, but the cost effective solution in some scenarios is a wireless kit.

I need some help. Our doorbell won't work and I don't know what the problem is. Here's what I do know: I know something's wrong because the button isn't illuminated, whereas when everything's working properly, the button lights up. When I tested for voltage, I got 8 volts, so I do have power going to the button. However, the wiring insulation at the button and going into the wall is badly frayed and I had to wrap it with electrical tape. Based on this information, does anyone have an idea of what the problem could be? Is it the button, the chime, the transformer, or the wiring that's bad?

I just installed a RING PRO (and connected the Pro Power Kit to our mechanical doorbell chime, located upstairs, in our 1-year old house with a pre-existing 16v transformer). All seemed to be working well until a couple hours later we noticed a noisy & constant hum/buzz sound coming from the 2nd chime box, which is located downstairs (no pro power kit in this chime). The doorbell button isn’t stuck... its one of the 'pins/strikers/hammers' in this downstairs chime box that is now 'vibrating' and causing the humming/buzzing sound. (See video). Tried disconnecting wires in the downstairs chime but then neither of the chimes, nor the RING PRO will work. How do I fix this? Thanks!
@RyanArrgh6 жыл бұрын
Does the Ring doorbell have a diode installed in it? If the 2nd chime box isn't digital that could definitely cause a buzz. A single diode will turn AC current in to DC voltage that is toggled on/off 50 or 60 times per second (depending on your country) and an older-style chime box might not be designed to handle that.
