@@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 Yeah! Wish I could do half the things you guys can do with outboards!!! No time or space right now...but will continue to live vicariously through channels like this until I start working on my own broken crap and remember it's not as fun as you guys make it look! Thanks man!

Thank you for showing the disassembly of the thermostat housing. My new to me outboard didn't have the large retaining spring that holds the thermostat assembly against the head. I'll have to order one now.

Yup as I thought a vacuum leak but I was thinking crankcase seal on the bottom ! I’d bet your surge was from the top cylinder ! Ya might try JB weld on it , the marine stuff works wonders ! Lol. That makes sense the warmer the block got the bigger the crack widened !

Hey Mark. Thanks for tuning in. I've never really had a problem with them until this time. But it happens. Most aftermarket parts are cheaply made and dont last. It's always best to buy the best. Thanks again and Stay tuned !

I’ve got a 1989 25 Horse Evenrude that come with an oil filter like for a car hooked into the fuel line. My question is this, can I get rid of the filter and just run a fuel line from my gas can to the motor?

The two worst OMC motors ever made (ignoring the crappy 1-cyl 1.5 - 2.0 junkers) are: The 1976 35hp, and: the 1978-? 2-cyl 55 hp motors. The 2-cyl 55's had a tremendous problem with hot spots in the block. It was so easy to burn a piston/score a bore in a 55.......... you didn't even need any factory training to do a good job of killing a 55. I could write an entire chapter about the 1976 35hp; however, each year was progressively and significantly better than the previous year, 1984 being the ultimate OMC 35hp motor; fast and reliable and first year of triple dog gears and clutch-dog in the lower unit, first year of the primer choke, and nearly the last year of the gear driven throttle linkage - and last year of the 35hp 2-cyl two stroke offering in the domestic U.S. market, other than military models. By that time it was one of the very best OMC motors ever made - In that statement, I'm including the 30, 25 and 20 in subsequent years of the same family. From worst to best; the 1976-1984 35hp, and beyond to 2005. However, the 1986 and newer had a push-pull Helix throttle cable. It was smother to operate, but would never last as long under neglect as the shaft-and-gear throttle linkage of 1985 and earlier. Best thing ever done to the 50/55 two cylinder motors was to discontinue them and offer, instead, a three cylinder 50-60. Those 3-cyls are legendary;. both 49cc and 56cc. Great motors. And then, there's the Johnson "Stinger", perhaps the best "hot rod" mid range OMC motor ever made............ Lucky is the man who aquires a Johnson Stinger (or an Evinrude Hustler).

Wow. Nice to hear someone that knows there omc outboards and takes the time to tell about it. That's great in my book! I luv comments like this because it helps me learn. Never got much into the 30-35's because they're almost always long shafts. Not much of a market down here for them. You can't give them away, same with the 20hp LS's. I'm gonna keep my eye out for a Stinger/Hustler. I've seen them around from time to time. Thanks much and best comment! Stay tuned !
