Hey. I don't know I wasn't there! Haha Just kidding! I hate when that happens. Might be in the linkage adjustments. If you adjusted the linkage at idle you'll have to also adjust it at wot. I'm thinking the butterflies may be opening too far. Did you sync the carbs at idle? The motor should idle by itself, without the roller touching the throttle cam. The mark on the cam will then line up with the roller barely touching it. Then put the throttle all the way to wide open and check the "roll pins" on the butterfly shafts, they should all be in a perfectly vertical position and must match, if they don't match then you'll have to resync the carbs. At vertical position means the butterflies are at a perfectly horizontal position, if they go over that position the motor won't run right at full throttle. Here's a link to a video that should help. Curious to know what you find out. Thanks for tuning in. kzbin.info/www/bejne/q3u3qWCvnLplabc

Hey Sean. Thanks for tuning in. Unfortunately the list of possible reasons is too long. It's best to have an omc manual for trouble shooting all the possibilities. Hopefully its something simple and you can start with some basic stuff. Clean the carbs. Check for air leaks in the fuel system and around the intakes. Check for good strong spark on all cylinders. Check for good compression. And check the link and sync. I was dialing in the carbs on my 92 60hp 3 cylinder the other day. I was surprised that just one carb being a little off would kill the motor. I couldn't believe the other two couldn't keep it idling until the 3rd carb was dialed back in. So like I said, hopefully its something simple. Check ebay for a good cheap used omc manual specific to that model. Good luck, Thanks again & Stay tuned !

Hey, Good morning. I have a 1975 70 horse Johnson. Runs perfect. I put ear muffs on and start water. Start the motor but it doesn’t seem to pump much water out of the two upper exhaust holes. I read that it won’t until thermostat opens. Does that make sense?
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 4 жыл бұрын
Hey. I'm thinking probably on a 75 you'll see more water when the thermo opens. Have you? The problem is usually the muffs, they just dont bring a lot of water like in a tank. Thats also why they say not to rev it up to much while on the muffs because of low water circulation can cause overheating. Thanks

@@artbentley8594 Hey. it shouldn't take to long. You can put your hand on the top of the motor over the cylinders. You should be able to tell if its to hot as to how long you can hold your hand on it. Hahaha I know it sounds funny and I cant tell you how long you can touch it for, I guess it just comes with experience. Go to boatinfo.no and check the manual. I dont know any history on the motor. Did you just get it? Does it even have a thermostat in it? Have you run it on a boat? You say it runs perfect, or do you mean it idles perfect? Hey Jack. Alright you asked for it! Hahaha, fuel tank vent or hose restricted, restricted fuel supply system, restricted fuel pickup, faulty anti-siphon valve, clogged fuel filter, fuel system air leak, fuel or oil inlets fittings plugged, air leak on fuel supply side, restricted vro fuel supply system, plugged pulse limiter fitting vro, damaged vro unit, throttle cam pickup misadjusted in linkage, idle speed to slow, restricted fuel distribution manifold in carburetor, carburetor base gasket leaking, plugged high speed orifice, plugged high speed nozzle vent, plugged float chamber vent, incorrect orifice size, warped intake manifold, manifold gasket leaking, leaf plate gasket leaking, leaf plate bent chipped or broken, leaf plate assembly screws loose. There you go! Thats all the troubleshooting from my manual on the 60 hp johnson I recently got. Basically the same motor. Hope it helps. Thanks for tuning in!

Please Help. I have an 1989 Johnson 70HP rebuild by Coastline Marine in Florida. The rebuild cost $3180. (rebuild include: bore the 2 bottom cylinders to the next larger size piston. replace the top piston for cylinder 1, rebuild carbs, new thermostat). The guy told me to check the ignition and timing by a mechanic. I have called every marina in Boston area to have them check the timing for me but no one is willing to work on older motor so I have to check the ignition/timing myself. I have watched KZbin videos bought 2 manuals to do the timing/ignition myself. When I check the TDC of the motor, new TDC mark that I've found is 2.5" to the left of the factory TDC. Is this correct ? TDC needs to be correct before I can continue forward. Thanks for your help.

Hey. Thanks for tuning in. Did you get an OMC manual specific to your year/model? Anyway. Here's a video that shows the correct procedures for your motor, with throttle cam part number 0431707. If it doesn't come out right, I would pull the flywheel and check the flywheel key. If you need an omc manual try ebay for a good used one. And if your worried about the high speed timing being off you can always do the Joe Reeves WOT timing method. I did a video using his method or just google it for the procedures. @@vinhoi69 this is old i know, but what is the motor doing/not doing that you think you need to check the timing? timing on these is simply idle speed in forward to exactly 800rpm. take cam roller and adjust throttle cam so they just barely touch, and back off idle stop screw 1/2 turn. it will now be at 750rpm. i'm not sure why you are so obsessed with pickup timing. if you want, set the timing point with a piston stop tool to get the correct reading, then do joe reeves high speed method to make sure its under 18 degrees. really simple stuff here for me.

Hey. could be as simply as an air leak or more involved like not firing on all cylinders. it's going to be a process of elimination. start at the fuel tank and work your way back. air leak in fuel hose. tank vent open. fuel pump pumping. carbs cleaned/rebuilt. floats adjusted. check compression . check for spark to all cylinders . new spark plugs. good coils. link and sync. basically give it a major tune up. take your time and dont assume anything. you can find a manual here. boatinfo.no/

@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 4 жыл бұрын
Hey. Its hard to say with that description as to whats going on, Is it pumping water? does it feel hot? What may seem like a overheating issue could be a fuel or ignition problem. And vice versa. You'll have to get back to basics. Its a process of elimination with these things. You have to eliminate/rule out one system at a time. Go through your entire cooling system until your convinced its working properly and all parts are good with no issues. If you still have a problem then move on to your fuel or ignition system and do the same. You could have a bad fuel pump or a coil breaking down. There's rarely one answer to any issue theses things have, and never assume anything! Just because it looks good, or clean dosent mean a thing. After doing so you will know that motor like the back of your hand. How it ticks and what makes it tick. Any future issues you'll know right where to go and how to deal with it.You have become one with your motor. Hahaha getting a little dramatic but its all true. Every bit of it. You can find a free service manual at boatinfo.no. Take your time. You'll figure it out. Thanks for watching and commenting. Stay tuned !
