Very good commentary all through the reassembly. I would also torque the head in stages, always have done so. I think the 'rule of nine' is the easiest to remember for the valve settings particularly when you are getting old like me! She did sound a little weird on the video so I am glad you explained the vibration issue but once you drove it outside it sounded just like a race car. Thanks Steve for the video and Happy New year to you and your family. 👍👍

Hay Steve from the video it loks like you left some swarfe in one of the bores after you cleaned the threads

I've been watching since you had a couple of thousand subs. Great to see you approach 100k. Thank you for a calm understated educational theme. I appreciate your privacy but I must admit it would be fasinating to hear how a young chap from Iowa got so involved with British cars, I saw an earlier vid with your father. Best of luck

Hi Steve, the water ports looked quite dirty where they link up with the head. All the valves were tight when you adjusted them. It is a good idea to slack them down quite a bit before torquing the head, because I think too tight rockers could influence the torque settings.

You should put the correct washers on the manifold drugs and bolts, spreads the load across the flange and reduces the chances of the alloy manifold snapping off with the weight of the carb.

Sounds great. Is there a "rule of nine" equivalent for a straight 6 XK engine? Or is it exclusive to the firing order of the B series engines?

It is 13 on the XK engine.

Hi Steve,Do you make an allowance with your head bolt tightening to allow for the grease on the threads.

@@ThisWeekWithCarsI contacted Remflex and they don't make an intake gasket for the 1275. They say they would make 6 for $400 but I don't have a need for that many. If you or anyone you know want some for your 1275's I would probably be interested in a couple, just not 6.
@roum22Ай бұрын
Surprised there was no mention of the torque settings being generaly about 25% different between wet and dry settings, and if you apply lube and tighten using dry settings you can dangerously over tighten the bolt/nut.
