I think of my dad with this song. He was so weak and frail before he died. He was on two different painkillers before he died. He was lying their with his eyes half closed, mouth agape. He could barely breathe. He had COPD. I remember when mum came into my room and told me we need to go to the hospital because they said he "won't make it through the night". I said she was bullshitting me. She heard the nurse on the phone wrong. Then we got there and saw him emaciated and all alone in a hospital ward. I wasn't there in the preceding days. I'm his son and I wasn't there in his last days. He was so weak and helpless. I did see him a couple of days before that but only spent about an hour with him, then went fishing. I had no idea he was about to die. No one told our family he was terminal. No one told us COPD only gets worse and he was in the middle of a final "exacerbation". When I listen to this song I imagine his long thin legs and arms, his vacant express, open mouth, half closed eyes - I imagine I'm driving on a country road at night and see him as a shadowy, gigantic figure towering over the road, crossing it, slowly, very slowly, an empty man, a boy, looking for his family. We were his family. I was his son. He was related to me by blood. My mum owed him nothing. She is not related to him. I should have been there for him. I should have loved him more. That day I went fishing I would have loved to have taken him with me and let him bathe in the sun next to the water with me. If he died there, with me, it would have been better. Now he's gone and it makes me want to believe in God and heaven. It makes me want to say "I will see you in heaven dad". But with what I've seen, the rock I've seen, the weathered, rusted rock, the 700 million year old formations of rock I've seen in the Northern Territory, the 20,000 year old rock art I've seen in the Northern Territory - I know I'll never, ever see him again. He is gone and my memories are bullshit because memories change every time you remember them. That is so painful - to know that he would have only been part of 1/4 of my life. The majority of my life will be without him. When I'm 80 he would be a footnote in my chronology.

Finally?? Have you missed out The Smile project? Or his latest solo album Anima? He's quite prolific recently.

@@Ing.BiomédicoFranciscoMireles Anima is not that old though. I didn't expect anything from him recently, assuming that he must be busy enough with The Smile. Anyway, I'm happy with this, it's really good. I'm looking forward to the new track as well. Comes out 2nd of April

C’est une miniature, un œuf qui s’étire au fin fond d’un rêve hésitant. Une chanson au bord du vide. Comment ne pas en faire la bande-son du dégoût profond que m’inspirent ces deux dernières semaines de l’histoire de notre monde ?

Remember when OK Computer came out? The vocals toward the end of Karma Police where he says phew for a minute there I lost myself- that was the hook that literally hooked me. What a game changer that album was.😮

Hi Thom You maybe won’t read your comments much. That’s no problem, life runs at a frantic pace. I’ve been with you since the start and thought it worth letting you know your music is so powerful and inspiring. I know of no other artist who’s whole career catalogue consistently remains at 100% musical perfection. Nothing seems to have ever swayed you from the purity of composition. Thanks for all the great music and joy that brings to us all on this little planet we call earth. We’re lucky to have you!
