Imho Mr. J. S. Bach is (still) the greatest Musical genius ever - and this magnificent Cantata the very best Music ever composed on Earth.. Yes, several parts really bring tears to my eyes, I'm not ashamed to admit it.. This is no doubt the most Divine Music ever.. And this performance is absolutely wonderful - I even think if Mr. J. S. Bach could hear it, he'd be very satisfied and really happy. Blessed Be, my very dear (fellow) Music loving friends. ❤😊😊❤

One of the best performances of the great creation of the great Master. If the suffering of Christ in the Gospel does not shake and move to tears, it is possible that the divine music of Bach will help to melt the frozen heart. And if it cries, then all is not lost and there is hope. "Behold, with tears we stand before Your tomb and sing: Rest in peace!..."

What is now a historic recording of Thomanerchor Leipzig is a pure treasure, although they do not benefit from modern sound recording standards like others have today. Nonetheless, when it comes to Bach, the Choir of St. Thomas in Leipzig still sets the pace, worldwide. There are wonderful interpretations from other choirs, but the Thomaner's are the reference. Bach at its "origin", in his original juice. And they sing with a little saxonian accent of Leipzig. I guess, Bach heared his pieces with that accent as well. Profoundly touching. Thank you having uploaded this.

A performance with great simplicity and charm. Though these young people are clothed in modern dress, and the expertise of the orchestra is very likely more professional than it would have been in 1740, somehow they convey what it might have been like to hear Bach's original forces! (The video quality cannot be better without undercutting the video which is available for sale.) I particularly like the angelic face of the choir director, Mr. Biller! What a treat.
