Excellent review and also very nice instrument and playing. One question.. could you play this guitar comfortably also without the leg support? Or is it too small and you always require a support or a strap?
@JohnCouplandguitar5 жыл бұрын
The support is not essential. At the kitchen table it helps but I usually play in my armchair with the rear end of the guitar against its right arm and my left elbow on the the other arm. I often use this support in demos to close the distance between the guitar neck and the top of my head. This allows a closer camera shot.

Beautiful playing! I personally like the trebly sound if the 3/4 guitar. Since the full-sized classical guitar is a little too big for me that would be perfect for me.

Hi John, Would you recommend an inexpensive fingerstyle guitar for beginner? Say, under 500 dollars. This would be for a small senior adult.
@JohnCouplandguitar4 жыл бұрын
If you want a steel string then Fender's Sonoran Mini is a great wee guitar. Sigma travel guitars are nice and at the top end, Taylors GS Mini. For a nylon stung guitar the Ibanez AEG7TN would be cool. As ever the golden rule is that if it has Yamaha written on it, it wont let you down!

I love your classical style. You keep most of it confined to the first three frets...rather than overly dramatic flamenco stuff.

A great and insightful review, as ever! John, look, this might come unexpected - but have you ever given a thought to a prospect of reviewing a ukulele? Yes, I do very well realize that this is a hot trend of today, and it may be just a passing phase of the music industry, but still - do you think you might try to review a ukulele? A great instrument in its own right, the way I see it!

Is that better than the fender you reviewed few years ago ? People complain that the chords are too high. It looks like a 1/2 size are you sure it is 3/4 ? On the websites it is 45 mn
@JohnCouplandguitar3 жыл бұрын
It was listed on the web site under the 3/4 guitars probably because of the neck but as you say it is a 1/2 size body. It does not appear to be available any more. I should point out it is very lightly built. My one fell from its hanger and the bridge came off!

I bought tis from Thomann but it does not appear on their current stock list. www.thomann.de/gb/search.html?gf=classical_guitars&bf=thomann&pg=3&ls=25 I suggest you contact them and ask when it will be available again. If enough folks ask then perhaps they will restock.

Hi John thanks so much for posting your videos - they're a joy to watch. Question: do you own the various guitars you review? I noticed in your Yamaha THR5 review you used an Epiphone ES339 coupe[?] - Natural finish. That's the exact guitar/finish I own and it's one of my two favorite guitars. Just wondered if you're a fellow member of the Epi ES339 club? Steve
@JohnCouplandguitar6 жыл бұрын
Hi Steve, Until I retired 18 months ago I worked as a guitar and keyboard teacher and most of the instruments you see belong to my pupils. Some are repairs that come my way, others from friends collections. I bought the 339 a while back but this summer I was given a Hartwood and a Quincy 335 style semis by their suppliers in exchange for a review. I fell in love with the Quincy so I gave the 339 to my son who then sold his Squier vintage Telecaster so we both benefited. I try to keep my collection down to filling the multi stand but GAS is always a problem.

Hi again John. Interesting (as always). I have encountered that same "knot inside the instrument" method on my Carvalho baritone uke. Like you, it struck me as odd at first but it does work well. On the theme of small or 3/4 instruments. I have an absolutely gorgeous Islander guitalale which is one of those instruments that always seems to provide a new idea, riff or chord sequence every time I pick it up. I bought it from SouthernUkuleleStore. I'll add a link for Big Phil at SUS playing an instrument very similar to mine. If ever your get your hands on a guitalale, I thoroughly recommend that you give it a try and - like me - you could end up being astonished at just how good these instruments are. Thanks again for your demo of the Thomann. kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2jOl4CGhLmcqq8
