My board is MXR Bass comp, MXR bass chorus with the flanger button, a Pigtronix Disnortion (the big one with three kinds of dirt), a Catalinbread Echorec and a JHS Clover for the DI out (I wish I could afford their Color Box). This is a combo of new, used and pedals that I switched off of my guitar board but didn’t want to sell.)

I have the same small pedalboard, in the sense that I have only 4 pedals on the board. The board is the Harley Benton Spaceship Power 50M and the pedals are: TC Electronic Polytune 3 Mini, Empress Bass Compressor Blue SPK, Tech 21 SansAmp BDDI V2, Darkglass Microtubes X Ultra. And I have the Tech 21 Bass Fly Rig v2 as replacement in case of a problem.

An envelope filter would have given the option for some great synth sounds in conjunction with the octave and fuzz.

Nice one! Finally some BASS... 😅 It's really nice to see the Palmer pedal in a video like this since I have it and recently started to build a basic pedalboard. Question: If I have a pedal to define my tone (preamp) and I'm not relying on the actual amp as much what should be my approach? I was actually looking at the new Ampeg SGT-DI for am upgrade, and with that and a few effects I could go totally ampless, but for rehearsals, stage monitoring I'll need something. Should I just buy a power amp and a cab? Using the effect loop return to skip the preamp section of an amp a good idea? Is it okay to have cab sim on when I'm actually playing through a (not that special) combo/cab? Can you route the DI with cam sim and the amp output without with this preamp unit? Sorry for the long question, but I didn't really hear anyone talk about this aspect of going (almost) ampless, and using pedals this way. Thank you, and keep the stuff coming! 😊

@nedvigbendeguz I find that for rehearsals, just going into the rehearsal rooms PA or bass cab works; as for live, the venue should have stage monitors.

I have almost the same setup: EHX Big Muff de Luxe, HB Double down, EHX Chorus. Why putting the Octaver/ comp. at the beginning and not after distortion/fuzz? I have an active bass ad I use the Muff's direct out, so I think I do not need a preamp, or do you think I need one? My next buy will probably be an EQ.

I'm trying to make a similar pedalboard with the same budget approximately, and I was wondering if you recommend to go for the Nux MLD preamp + DI instead of the Palmer. Thanks!

What I found initially confusing when watching this video is that the Bass Pocket uses a single stereo socket for effects send and return. This requires a special cable stereo -> two mono. It would probably have been good to explain that.

No compression?
@bobmaerten Жыл бұрын
Why do you go direct before the fuzz and modulation? This means only part of your sound will go to front of house? More bass related video plz! 😇
@Synkavych Жыл бұрын
It's to offer a dry unaffected signal to front of house. Then mic cab or XLR out of amp for 2nd signal that is full of effects. That way there is no loss of low end
@bobmaerten Жыл бұрын
@@Synkavych I never had option from FoH engineers to provide 2 signals from my bass rig. But I will think of it and specify in my tech sheet! Thanks.

@@bobmaerten If I'm playing with effects, I prefer to have a microphone in front of my amp than a DI signal. Overdrive can sound very ugly through DI
@bobmaerten Жыл бұрын
@@ileutur6863 that’s why you have to use a cab simulator when using distortion.

I use a 6 by 2 paddle board for optical fake reasons and a older zoom B3 as workhorse. People are amazed all the time. Limiter (compression is overrated) , + 7 octaver at 1 or 2%, Saturator, Chorus, Delay, in different combinations. EQ on amp. These fuzz and transistor distortion sounds generally terrible in my opinion. HF! 👍

The "bellboard" is nice, but why is Julia not playing this?? You _have_ got a great in-house bass player, so please let her do her job. Also, if the mic sound of the strings is as loud as the processed sound, your mixer is doing something wrong. Why is the demo playing so quiet?

This is a hard fail. First, he commented that he's not a bass player. Skip! Secondly, it is definitely not a budget setup. You would be better off with a bass multi-effect pedal because you wouldn't have to worry about wire routing, signal path, etc. You could build your own base for the board from the local hardware store out of wood.
