Je crois qu'on ne prend pas bien la mesure de cette interview. On parle d'une personne qui a littéralement révolutionné la musique, l'un des artistes à la fois les plus plébiscités mais aussi des plus discrets. Aujourd'hui Thomas Bangalter débarque dans le plus grand des calmes sur France Inter alors que, encore un bon nombre d'entre nous n'a même jamais vu son visage, encore moins entendu le son de sa voix, pour nous donner une leçon d'humilité. L'émotion est à la fois indescriptible et palpable. J'ai un réel sentiment étrange d'accomplissement. Merci à toi Thomas et merci à France Inter de m'avoir permis de vivre ça.

Je suis brésilien et dès mon plus jeune âge j'ai découvert et suis tombé amoureux de Daft Punk. Ce qui m'a fasciné toute ma vie dans leur musique, outre le rythme incroyable, ce sont les messages critiques derrière les paroles. en 94 j'ai eu l'occasion de voir Daft punk dans un club parisien à côté de la Gare du Nord, mec tranquille posé, j'ai eu un échange avec Guy Manuel en gros de quel bled ils venaient moi j'avais un groupe de rock l'époque etc... Thomas a décroché le poste de commandement pour venir me demandé si les samples étaient bon je lui est dit que c'était de la tuerie et paf il est reparti continuer son mix . Lorsque je disais les ‘’Daft Punk’’, vous aurez compris que je parlais surtout de Thomas et Guy-Manuel. Dans cette interview, Thomas a une force dans la simplicité, la sagesse et l’humilité. Daft Punk a inspiré beaucoup de personnes du monde entier avec leur succès mondial. Ils avaient un temps d’avance sur tout. Ils ont fui la célébrité, la notoriété ou la gloire personnelle pour laisser place à leur créativité artistique qui était au-delà de la musique. Aujourd’hui, Thomas se met à parler non pas pour expliquer les milliers d’histoires qu’il pourrait raconter avec Daft Punk qui sont certainement dingues, mais pour parler de ses nouveaux horizons musicaux que je suivrai avec plaisir. Je remercierai jamais assez cet homme et son duo avec Daft punk pour l’impact qu’ils ont eu dans ma vie personnelle. Petits fils d’immigré j’ai grandi avec le rai la chanson française puis le rap. Paradoxalement, j'ai un énorme regret que j'ai depuis des années et des années c'est d'avoir eu aussi peu d'explications durant l'existence des DAFT sur leurs musiques. Manifestement, cela semble être un excellent album de musique classique. Quelle magnifique démonstration de son talent, d'humilité, de travail et des compétences musicales qui sont les siennes ! Honestly, they did a great job, they revolutionized music and they are my favorite musicians, and one day I would like to meet them in person, and take a photo with the two, I always thought and wished it was without their helmets, well that could be a reality, but at this point, I am not only impressed by seeing Thomas without a helmet, but also by imagining being in front of two people who, over so many years, have made so many magnificent pieces of music and who have repercussed throughout my life, that's something amazing and it would be a dream come true, to meet two great artists and musicians today, and simply express how grateful i am for those moments and emotions that put me through during my life and the impact of their music today

Je suis si triste qu ils se soient séparés depuis 2021 j'en fais toujours pas le deuil je crois... mais la façon dont il se sont séparé... Et comment il l'ont mise en scène est magnifique... Thomas Bangalter we know your lack of enthusiasm for interviews, you only gave a few when you were a member of the iconic daft punk duo. So this morning it’s not too hard to wake up in front of a mic ? T- No no it’s ok. It’s really ok. L- You are here for your first solo album since daft punk disbanded two years ago. A shock for your millions of fans around the world, here too. « Mythology » this album is an album is symphonic, stupefying and ambitious, very far away from your electro universe. This is a composition for the Ballet of Angelin Preljocaj shown (the ballet not the music) at Bordeaux and Chatelet (name of a place in Paris). This is your first album of instrumental and classical music, the first time you write for an orchestra, for musicians of chair and bones who play with instruments. You wanted to take risks, to get out of your comfort zone, to deep down get back the feeling of being a beginner. T- Exactly… Though I had the opportunity while in daft punk to work with orchestras, for the music of the film “Tron Legacy”, for a Disney film and also for our last album where there were orchestras. But… but we were working with orchestrators and arrangers and I wanted for a long time to experience the exercise of orchestration. The proposal of Angelin arrived at the right time and allowed me to take on this project. L- So, the proposal of Angelin, at the beginning, was one mixing orchestra and electro, it was you who chose, who said “no, no electro”, who made the radical decision to say “I want to totally throw away the machines”. T- So, at this point, I’ve had for a long time now, the feeling of questioning my own relationship to technology… the importance of technology in my life and my creative process. And it’s true that I had, at the same time, the desire to put aside the machines a little bit, to focus on experimenting with the orchestra. And at the same time an orchestra is an equilibrium in itself and I didn’t want to add a new parameter (the electro element). L- Was it freeing to get away from the machines ? From the computers ? T- I’m under the impression that it’s freeing for a lot of people, when machines are put aside we have the feeling of being in a calm and appeased environment. I was always fascinated by machines and technology generally speaking. What I question and I’m afraid of, is the relationship we have with it, and the nature of this relationship. L- Indeed, and I want to ask you a question, when you see the AI arriving everywhere like in music, is it fascinating for you or does it make you afraid ? T- Hm, we speak of the myth of Icarus at some point in this spectacle. L- Who burns his own wings T- Who burns his own wings… Daedalus, Icarus’ father, build the wings for Icarus, and warns him about this tool, and the manner with which he will able to use it. Icarus rises and is completely overwhelmed and ends up getting too close (to the sun). So I think that with all this technology, it will really be the manner, how to think about it, how to regulate, integrate the maximum of ethic and philosophy in this approach. L- Writing a partition for an orchestra is not for everybody, Angelin speaks of a real feat from you. Did you start writing ? Did you know how to write it ? Did you write with a feather and ink ? T- No… I have a relationship with dance and orchestral music.. or at least with dance because my mother was a dancer. I come from a family, my uncle and my aunt are too (dancers). And finally I had piano lessons with a teacher who worked in an orchestra in the opera when I was young. And it’s true that it (the orchestra culture) was a part of my life. Though I did not attend the conservatory. So at some point I just sat down with treaties on orchestration. L- So you worked (hard is hinted by Lea). T- I’m of a working nature even It wasn’t seen or too little. Even if it’s not seen today. L- It shows, it shows. T- So yes I worked (Thomas chooses another word without the “hard” hint). I like to be in a position, a posture, getting out of a comfort zone and to stay a little bit like a beginner. This is my principal motivation. L- You said “to get out of the boxes that you imprisoned yourself in”. This is what motivates you to wake up. T- Yes Yes L- Not to do the umpteenth album

Daft Punk, un véritable bracage. Un ovni musical quand ils ont sorti leur premier album. Ils ont debarqué de nulle part avec des sons enormes dont une bonne partie repris de vieux tubes. Ils ont vraiment fait une superbe carriere avec des beaux albums. J'espère que Thomas et son ancien complice nous regalerons encore avec leurs creations même si DP c'est fini.
