Thomas & Friends AEG My Busy Book Train Wreck & Christmas Thomas Hot Wheels & Disney 100 Silver Coin

I found a NEW Thomas & Friends My Busy Books and it's based on All Engines Go (Thomas AEG). I compare this new book / models to the classic Thomas And Friends My Busy Books. Apart from a massive price difference there is a disturbing lack of detail with the AEG My Busy Book. When doing a hard up comparison between Thomas, James, Percy & Nia the differences are ASTONISHING. All the models from the Thomas AEG My Busy Book are incredibly disappointing. I have always spoken very highly about My Busy Books but sadly this Thomas & Friends AEG version is absolute trash. And to put the icing on the cake the way this book was sold in store was more akin to a trap sale. So yeah all this makes me very angry.
I also look at the Thomas & Friends and Hot Wheels stock at my local KMart twice, first at 14 days to Christmas and then 10 days. It's amazing to see what sells and what's not for sale. The Thomas & Friends area is now only 1/3 of a shelf cell in a aisle. There was once a time when Thomas & Friends toys occupied one side of a whole aisle.
I purchased a 1/2 Ounce Silver Disney 100 Collector Coin. This Silver coin comes in a display box and once it's out of packaging is quite small. One side has Queen Elizabeth 2 and the other a Disney 100 motif. Honestly the side with the Queens head is far more impressive Vs the Disney stuff. Do these unusual Silver Collector Coins have any real investment value?

Honestly though, as crap as AEG is, the AEG merch is quite a good price (for the most part), I recently saw a Die Cast Thomas AEG engine for $5 and I was tempted to get my hands on one.

The prototype images that are located on the back of the box and online I believe look much better than the released versions with actual detail and lining if only Mattel didn’t cheap out on us once again

A child is not going to be as disappointed and a man child. Seeing how low end the small models were did catch me by surprise considering this is something that My Busy Books tend not to do. I have been trying to find another AEG Busy Book but wow they are impossible to find in shops. Lots of other franchises but no Thomas AEG versions. Freakish I found just one.

It’s OK to get upset about things like that price tag but direct your anger to the right people. Not the cashier, not a stock person, but a manager, or better yet, the corporate office. I see it happened way too often where people get furious at a cashier or store employee who have absolutely no power to change anything.

Geez, it’s the end an empire the whole aisle in my old local Kmart, which is now closed used to be Thomas themed with all of the original Trackmaster now all of it’s gone, and my local target they don’t have any Thomas and friends anymore :(

The history of the degradation and erosion of TTTE goes back a long way. I think it first started with season 6 and season 7, when Britt Alcroft introduced stuff like Thomas and the jet engine, and the episode where Percy crashes into a chocolate factory. These types of episodes became more frequent when Hit took over. I'm pretty sure anyone who read the RWS and watched the Hit era episodes would agree with me. The Hit era just became a parody of the original show by Britt Alcroft. Then came the CGI era when Mattel took over. For some time, it seemed that Mattel could actually bring the show back on track after the whole Hit mismanagement. However, following the Brenner era and BWBA, the show just collapsed. Any charm it had retained at all just died. I grew up with the Brenner era, but as a child, I found seasons 1 through 5 to be of much greater quality. I stopped watching the show entirely, after they released journey beyond Sodor, but I still like to watch the Britt era seasons, and read the RWS once in a while. The last nail to TTTE's coffin came when they introduced AEG, and permanently removed the fandom's most favourite characters, Edward and Henry, from the show. Many of the older fans just left after that. I'm pretty sure that's by the show is almost dead. No one watches it or buys the merchandise anymore. The fans don't want funny episodes, or even new characters. We wanted a Sudrian Railway, which actually functioned as a railway. Episodes like "Fish", "a better view for Gordon", and "down the mine" portrayed this perfectly. It's not like the writers don't have information to go on either. There are two entire volumes of books written by Rev. W. Awdry, and Christopher Awdry. On top of that, we have the IOS book, and Sodor: reading between the lines. I don't know what will happen in the future. Mattel could either give Thomas to the public domain, or try and reboot the show to be of higher quality. Though most probably, they'll just cancel it entirely. If they do that, it would be for the best. We can finally give the show a proper burial.

As a Transformers fan/collector, it's interesting how Hasbro and Mattel share similarities in a decline of quality for mainline figures... Anything outside of the Studio Series, War for Cybertron, or Legacy lines are typically comparable to happy meal toys with an inflated price tag, it really is a shame to see the quality of toys decline as kids these days grow more and more obsessed with technology.

The downgrade reminds me a bit of the Barbie Colour Reveal dolls. Apperantly these dolls have this gimmick where you dip the doll in water to reveal its outfit and style. The dolls don’t have a proper outfit, and their hair is just a clip with hair on it. I have seen numerous of these dolls in secondhand stores despite them only being released recently. It’s very sad. 😢 I’ve only been gaining an appreciation for Barbie since I saw the Barbie Movie, too. Thankfully I have picked up some older Barbies secondhand!

There is one Barbie I almost purchased 10 years back now. It was the Barbie with the video camera in the chest and screen on the back. It was very close to $100 to buy in Myer. It was so unusual and weird and thats what caught my attention. To me it was wildly overpriced, in essence putting a $20 low quality camera system into a $10 doll. I clearly remember watching it in store and no one was buying it. Then there was a thought it was going to be linked to criminal activity and the doll was pulled. I'm really regretting not buying it. And this was at a time when Mattel were really struggling to make Barbie relevant. Another Barbie like I thought was weird was the Fashionistas. The first gen of these dolls all ended up in Reject Shops selling for bottom dollar. They are now VERY collectable, especially the first editions. They have become adult collectable dolls and very desirable.

I'm doing a hard up comparison of the online pictures Vs the boxed models. And what's wild is the AEG MBB is the only one thats put up pictures that are not indicative of what comes out of the box. I even drag out the other 3 versions of My Busy Books to look at how the back of box pictures are done. The problem is someone has signed off on this and let it out of the factory in a really substandard way. I have been searching to find another AEG MBB but it's near impossible to find.

I think it's very important to understand the difference between reasons for low stock. While it is entirely possible there are only 2 kanas and 2 nias becuase they're selling very well, it's also equally likely that the retailer has simply purchased less of those two charecters. Stores have to make money and they're only going to buy products that they know are going to be profitable. If i had to take a shot in the dark, I would say AEG isn't selling very well and as such, stores have lowered thier purchase amounts to compensate. Why would you use valuable shelf space you could use to stock say Bluey or Paw Patrol for a frankly dying franchise? The fact brand new toys are being marked down is a troubling sign for the future of this brand. I fear we might be witnessing the end of Thomas & Friends.

5:18 That hasn't been the case in America. I've seen them as low as 94 cents each to as high as $1.20 each for a basic car. The stock level varies but recently we've had an abundance of them at my store. We don't have Zuru Metal Machines but we do have Maisto/Adventure Force single cars for still 97 cents each (multipacks are cheaper per car) The decoration on the AEG My Busy Books characters is really disappointing compared to what they have done previously.

I can do better than that, KMart dropped the price to 75c per car but guess what, there was no stock. The whole Hot Wheels area has been empty pegs for weeks and still is. The price drop had that real bait n swap sniff to it. I just love retailing in Australia, it's so wildly out of control.
