That's really cool! I've just turned 40 this month but started playing drums at 11. My first kit was a Yamaha rydeen but I don't own any parts at all from that kit caused I sold everything like I usually do when it's time to upgrade because of skill progression, so the gear progresses aswell. Point is that your first ride cymbal 40 yrs later had found it's way back to you! I'd like to have one of my first back for nostalgic reasons! Cool story, awesome😉 EDIT...Just throwing in that I've come all the way from a Yamaha Rydeen at 11😆 all the way to a gorgeous 7 Piece Tama Star Maple all Tama Hardware and of course Meinl's Byzance mixed with a few cymbals from the alloy and classics custom series at 40🙂👍

How's your drumming been throughout your life? Have you slowed down and gotten back into it at times, or kept it steady? Those are great memories to have!

Cool! I still have my first Ludwig snare ('65 Super Classic). My first kit was a 3pc Kent (snare, rack tom and bass, 1 cymbal) and my first snare drum was a Tempo .

My first kit was a Champagne Sparkle Kent 4-pc. with no hi-hat. Then a few years later, my dad picked up a 1959 Ludwig Blue Sparkle for me from a co-worker. Wish I never got rid of that one!

I love hearing about the first instruments of these (now) global players...I am not a legend, but my first kit (in the early 1980's) was a second hand 1968 Ludwig that someone spray painted gloss black. Underneath the paint was that classic paisley pattern. Reinforced hoops. Bought it for $150 (four piece plus two cymbals), sold it for $450 in the late 90's. Now I wish I had kept it, removed the black and returned it to its original wrap...it would be awesome to have now. The only thing I kept from that kit (part of the $150 price tag) was a 20" Paiste 602 ride from what I'm guessing is the 1960/70's. I still play that ride. It is sweet in any type of music and it has a deep crash when necessary, and a beautiful sounding bell.

My first real kit was a Cannon by Radical ( or vice versa ), and I had that thing on layway for quite a few months because I paid for it myself back around highschool or so. Before then, my first playing surfaces were the New Book Of Knowledge encyclopedias, and any other book that I had, read, or was in the process of reading....

I still have my first ride, as well! It’s a 20” Sabian B8 Pro Heavy Ride, and it sounds like absolute crap 😂 Nevertheless, it holds a special place in my heart and I’ll never part with it, and I’ve now owned it for over 25 years.

The cymbal sounds just like a Zildjian. My first kit was from Sears and Roebuck. I made it sound better with Remo heads. I was 11 then / 1969.
