Dear Interview Lady, when you're interviewing comedians and it's going off the rails, it is best if you just play straight, or act like you are trying to regain control. That's about the only way to save face. They are trying to be funny and will likely succeed. It's obvious you're "in on the joke" so just be calm and carry on. It's about the only way to get through it without looking like you're trying too hard. They are professional comedians, You're not going to be adding much. This is intended as constructive criticism.

?? It seemed to me she was doing just that. Like she wasn't trying to riff with them or anything, she just laughed at their jokes and asked a question once in a while to keep it going. I thought it was a good interview.

birdland I really never meant to imply it was a bad interview. Honestly, I enjoyed it. She just seemed overwhelmed and like she didn't know exactly what to do. She made a choice to participate in the way she did and it worked to a large degree. I just have seen a few, let's say, more professional interviews. Where the interviewer/host was the guest "wrangler". Who acted like the disapointed mom or dad, that were trying to get the kids to behave. It seemed to work better in these situations. It added to the comedy and allowed for a more interesting dynamic. I do understand, it is totally a personal preference. For both the viewer and the interviewer. Some, if not most, may prefer the interview as it was handled here. I just find it works better with the situation I described in my OP. I intended no intended disparagement, with my original comment. I do honestly apologize if offense was taken, or it came across "assholish".
