That new style Thomas looks like a cheap chinese knock-off. And of course, they make them incompatible with common Thomas items...just so you'll have to replace your Thomas sets.
@leokimvideo2 жыл бұрын
You know what really sad is if that new Thomas was just 5mm or say 3/16 inch shorter there wouldn't be a problem. The new engines are outlandishly tall and out of scale to the rolling stock. Now I gotta ask myself was this height done on purpose or just a total lack of compatibility design. My gut is saying this is done on purpose. The toy industry LOVES change and making sure things don't fit together between the toy 'generations'. Maybe the exclusion to this is what LEGO get up to.

I was really excited to see this in my subscriptions today! I've really missed this style of videos, and I'm really grateful you took the time to make one today despite all your monetization issues. Personally, I would consider Take Alongs rare these days, but I wouldn't value them very high if they're all beat up like the ones you showed off. An engine without a tender or a tender without an engine instantly devalues the toy in my opinion. I wouldn't have paid more than 4 for that Henry as a complete set, or more than 2 for that Thomas. The tenderless James and Gordon's tender shouldn't be more than a dollar. Great video all around!

"the kids who played with this are adults now" why you gotta do me like that man? you can seriously tell a toys been reviewed once youve had a look at it. your content never fails to dissapoint. its crazy comparing AU prices to what theyre sold for over here in the UK. i hate the generation of inflation assumption second hand sellers are in. i remember about a year or 2 ago i was buying some wooden track from a charity shop and the guy tried to get £25 out of me, since i didnt see the £7 price tag on the side, which i went back a few days later when other staff were in and paid for, claiming a bunch of old and dirty track was "rare". thats a word people throw around way too much these days. if i find a take along or whatever when im out and about in charity shops, i usually go for haggle. the most ive paid for one singular engine was £3 for harold, purely cus i didnt have him. but it honestly depends on how much business the place has. if theyre usually very quiet, theyll be a bit more stingey. if its the opposite, well you can figure that out. i got about 5 paper face ertls from a second hand collectible store for 30p each one time, which is of course a cha ching cha ching. buying in bulk and doing the math is probably the best way to make any sort of profit from buying thomas toys. im partial to the AEG stuff. the general forced opinion on the stuff is that its the worst thing ever and nothing about it is good, which is just ridiculous. anything can have good qualities. theres a difference between ignorance and disliking. i actually quite like the AEG toys, theyre certainly better quality if i were you, idve waited a bit to buy these. already over here the toy store i bought mine from, the entertainer, has the push along ones on 33% off. its so weird to see new toys on special so quickly...

In that condition you’d expect $3-5 for a complete engine and tender and around $2-4 for a single engine/item. Banged up hot wheels are usually 50c to a $1. My local Salvos does mark up some toys and records if they they ‘think’ they can get away with it Re: store prices…retailers should sell the goods at the prices marked on tbe shelves. Ah, take along. I use to have a fair amount of the stuff! But I grew out of it and subsequently Tak-n-Play. in favor of the motorized Trackmaster stuff, which I still collect to this day. I dare say those Take-Alongs are only worth $2-$10. Assuming $10, you're paying for Gordon and he's in pretty good condition. These aren't like the old TOMY or Trackmaster items that were motorized, awfully large, very well detailed and often came with a piece of track and rolling stock. I did spot a Wooden Railway Billy though! That I'd price at about the same as the Take-Alongs as it was in good condition and made out of wood. Something that really hit me hard though was "Thomas Take Along 2002, the people who played with these are adults now." Honestly so true, I grew up watching your videos from grade school through the end of high school. Thoroughly enjoyed just about each and every single one. A pity I can't say I've enjoyed inflation! Everything was more expensive. If you want to go shopping, well gas is more to drive there. When you get to the store everything costs more. Then if you want to go out for a bite to eat, that's more expensive. Awfully enticing to sit in the comfort of your living room these days and scroll through on an iPad and just have the store deliver your items to you. Although don't scroll for too long! As electricity costs more! Its insanity. I really enjoyed this, nice to see your videos return to a more normal style since I know from around 2018-2019 you tried pleasing the KZbin system, but that didn't work out too well. Anyhow, take care and I look forward to seeing a new video from you sometime soon! :-)

One big change in retailing is the near total reliance on 'self serve' checkouts. The new norm is have minimal staff and you dare not pay with cash, thats dirty money now. So the few staff who are there don't know the systems but have quick cheeky verbals to get you out of store without the item you want to purchase. I'm just the goose with the cash trying to buy something and these days the 'system' overrides everything. The fact that the code to put into the checkout is found on the retailers online site says is all. They really just want you to buy online. Going in store is so yesterday.

It makes me real sad seeing how the the once grand Thomas toyline went from being one of the most quality products in the world, to an extremely generic and simple style of toy seen in so many other children's shows today. In regards to those Take-Alongs, I'm going to guess 5-6 $per piece, and that (in my opinion), is outrageous. I go to swap meets and flea markets all the time, and a fair price, (taking condition, and commonality into consideration) would be around $1-$1.50 per piece. AEG toys have sadly arrived in New Zealand too. I went to one shop last night and saw they had some individual engines as well as three-packs with Thomas and Diesel in each one. Bizarrely the older Trackmaster 2 and Push Along stuff was still being sold right alongside the newcomers. It didn't surprise me at all to see inconsistent quality with how the decals are printed. In the end, I couldn't bring myself to get an AEG toy, even for curiosity's sake, since I think they just look wrong (the proportions, faces; everything). Then there's the risk of getting ripped-off, which I'm not willing to take.
@leokimvideo2 жыл бұрын
The Metal Engine Thomas AEG stuff looks good, but sadly this new style doesn't work well on Trackmaster. If only it wasn't so tall in design. The rule of thirds has been thrown out the door and this size increase makes it tricky to use with historical Trackmaster playsets. Difficult to know if that's by good or poor design. Maybe best to say a smart design change for the toy company.
@DC4260Productions2 жыл бұрын
Something else I've just remembered is the inconsistency of buffer detailing. If I recall correctly, Diesel was the only one who had painted buffers, and I find it so odd that Mattel didn't do the same for the others.

@@ThomasSirHandel I think the reason Mattel is putting out both versions of Thomas is to see which one will sell more. I hope AEG doesn't become a success for long. I don't see any reason why it should be. It's just another generic preschool show and I hope it gets lost in the big shuffle where it belongs.

I do the occasional collection each Christmas. I'll probably buy the AEG stuff for the rolling stock. I just find the rolling stock so cool.

It’s sad that Leo has replaced the background with a lone Titanic because if the old background was still there COPPA would be marching into the video.

This was a really nice video, I am glad to see a rubber chicken that was really cool, and the wired price I think will get worse before it gets better inflation is high and not getting better in the US any way. Nice to see thank you for the video.

It’s honestly a shame that nowadays you be spending 2 to 3 or even 4 times the original amount, i wouldnt spend anywhere higher than $4 per piece however thats if its in good condition.

Thanks, maybe only the Thomas Wooden Railway piece was in good condition. The Take Alongs were all trashed

I must say I grew up with Thomas and even as an adult what they’ve done to him just makes me sad

Same. I don't believe the old version should be hidden away from today's preschoolers. I want today's little kids to see what Thomas was meant to be or at least watch something that's not too generic and take a break from shows that talk down to them. I especially feel terrible for the autistic community. I'm autistic myself. I lost mostly lost interest in Thomas when I realized Mattel had taken away it's identity in favor of blending in with the other generic shows.

Thanks, $5 for the whole lot, nice price if only it worked like that.

To answer your question I would pay a dollar a piece for the complete engines depending on size but the tenders are definitely 50 cents but that’s coming from an American

I collect Star Wars Black series figures and the prices went from 19.89 to 22.89 now 27.89.. also they have made the packages windowless.. meaning no clear plastic window so you can’t see if the figures are pristine… so in my mind your paying more for no plastic window and also the figures have no quality control… I have already got a figure with 2 left hands.. but the good news was I called hasbro to complain.. they asked me to take a picture so they could see and I did.. they sent me out another figure and told me to keep the other one.. so I basically got 2 figures for the price of one….
