harry i disagree on it being clear that decs is most certainly a 6 and not an 8, similar with bruno vice versa being an 8 and not a 6, i think decs' output as an 8 this season is significant and still untapped, there's plenty of 8's at top teams that would kill for decs g/a this season, and playing him at the 8 hides his lack of threat orchestrating and passing through the lines from the 6, whilst at 8 he gives us a dynamism to stretch that engine he has in very impactful ways (which i'd say hasn't been seen since rambo and kante in terms of pure engine).. same with bruno who can play 8 and probably enjoys it more, but as a dm is a fantastic passer and conductor of play from deep, who also has the quality and industry to fulfill that role fantastically there, decs playing with him he'd give us the energy and dynamism that completes what arteta wants from his trio, the point tho being that going after a player who can play both cm/dm gives us the freedom to figure out the better balance for the side as it progresses rather than just saying, you play there cos its what you know, it gives us the freedom to grow the players into the balance that suits them and swap and change roles as the situation decides it, and bruno amongst very few players has the technique to offset and compliment what we have as a cm/dm..

Great stuff as always, Harry! Keep it up! It's fascinating to see what Arsenal's plans are with ESR. We had the chance to sell him for ~£30m two seasons ago - but we didn't. Since then, his value has obviously declined, but there's a brilliant player in him, should we decide to keep him. Personally, I think he's a winger (he's used to playing both wings) but down the pecking order. Could we have given him more time at RW instead of playing Saka all the time? I don't know. I guess he couldn't play in either wing, the LCM or AM positions up to Arteta's standards (remember his tracking back against Villa?). His injury record isn't the best either, in particular his physical fitness. Many fans have noticed that he has gained significant weight, but I don't know what to make of it. I love ESR and still believe he's one of the best technical players we've got, and if he manages to play significant minutes in pre-season, there might be a redemption arc in the ESR-Arsenal story.

Love ESR but this is a no-brainer for both the club and player. There is a small chance he will get back to full fitness and play to his full potential, are you willing to bet the League on it? sell him.

Rice, Vieira, Yaya Toure what are these players best position? Why do we have to shoehorn players into what we think is best. The aforementioned players have qualities of 6's, 8's and even 10's. Let them grow organically and see where the chips fall. Rice is a very good ball carrier, and has an eye for goal, i think he can flourish as an 8.

emile was amazing during that spout of goal scoring form he had, but people also glowingly forget that he was banging a lot of those gols coming off the bench, he's never been as important to arteta as our rose tinted memories of that purple patch seem to suggest, solid player who will go on to do better else where who we all wanted to succeed but when he's not scoring our other players are better now than him in more varied ways, same as whats happened to other players who were sure ins but this arteta train as its advanced has relegated them to passengers..

I've a feeling Arsenal will replace Partey with a 'market opportunity' signing - someone like a Youssef Fofana. He doesn't have long left on his contract and he looks like a very similar Partey profile. If I could pick a dream replacement, it would be Tchouaméni at Real Madrid.

Who is next Bruno? Too expensive at 100. We could have had him at less than half. NO to Bruno. He had a go at us when he went to Newcastle. Partey race is run. Off the Arthritic research lab. We sign Bruno then what happens when Rice is injured??? Bruno can not play the lone six role and him and Jorginho as a double pivot lacks a lot. I also think Rice is far better as a 8 and is wasted as a 6. Clearly Rice thinks he is better as a 6 right now thats all he has known at West Ham. Seeing him freed up with Jorginho and Partey came in was what changed our season. The power and ball carrying and ability Rice has higher up the pitch has to be utilised.

No chance Bruno is leaving Newcastle this season the thing people don’t realise his release clause is 100m If that is triggered then it’s 100m upfront all of it and his clause is only valid until June 30th the reason being it would then go towards this seasons psr not next season

Newcastle can accept amortised payments over 3 yrs. The player also has a say in where he chooses to go. They need to sell a key player to satisfy PSR, but there will be multiple outgoings to make room for new players. The club has set the terms but have every right to change those terms how they see fit.
