Thomas Sankara is the best African President ever and after him, there is none. He is our Hero

True, but there were positive lights before him. Like Ghana's Kwame Nkrumah and Nigeria's Nnadi Azikiwe & Obafemi Awolowo...but colonialism made sure their stars just like Sankara's never saw the light of day, and ever shrouded in the clouds of their evil grip.

I am so stunned that my history class taught me more about George Washington, Napoleon, Queen Elizabeth, Winston Churchill and all other overseas leaders and never taught me enough about people like Thomas Sankara. Let me be honest, I just came across this video by accident and from where I am (South Africa) there is not much documented nor even said about leaders of his calibre and this was the first time I even heard that he existed. And from now on, I shall dig every piece of history about him... Rest in peace, Son of Africa.

The death of Thomas Sankara re-vibrated around the world. I remembered vividly as a little boy traveling to Lagos for the first time and hearing the news. As long as Africans are not loyal to one another, this is what you get time and again. Thomas Sankara was told of his friend's plot to assassinate him but he did not believe it. Good people see no evil and hear no evil. RIP Sankara, you've done your best and history will judge all.

as much as this video has a little bit of hope for the African child... Education/knowledge still remains the answer to everything... it has every tool any individual, country, state or government needs to prosper, survive and defend its self for intruders.. And most of these wars if not all that we have in Africa are man made.. once you become a threat to the masters you will be eliminated if not have your country divided.. with all the resources the continent has, just imagine what would happen if there was no corruption, war and greed.. I am an African and I believe we are going to get there.. its a matter of time!

Well said and true, Adeola Fayehun. Thomas Sankara was cut before he could finish his exemplary work. But it is strange that the younger generation of presenters like you do not cover the whole of modern African history. How come Mwalimu Julius Nyerere of Tanzania is never spoken in such breath? Have you done enough research and seen his achievements? How he contributed (together with Ghana's Kwame Nkrumah and Ethiopia's Haile Selassie ) in forming the African Union (then called OAU) in 1963. How he made Tanzania headquarters (alongside Algeria and Ghana) for other Africans still struggling for independence. How many former freedom fighters and refugees may testify to this including some of the present African leaders in Zimbabwe, Angola, Mozambique, South Africa and so on. Even some of US Black Panthers settled in Tanzania and Ghana as a result. How he boldly led Tanzania to recognize Biafra (during Nigeria's civil war and genocide of 1967-70). How Dr Nyerere, single-handedly led Tanzania to topple Idi Amin of Uganda, a military killer who butchered at least a quarter of a million Ugandans 1971-79. How Mwalimu tried to steer Tanzania towards self reliance through Ujamaa (family) policies. Have you heard of Ujamaa? Some of its tenets are what the bold and courageous Thomas Sankara was trying to implement in Burkina Faso. Free education, health and opportunities. Even though Ujamaa failed (1967-85) Nyerere was the most original of the African leaders. Before anyone starts he was not even a Marxist. He resigned and did not have millions of cash stashed in foreign banks like some of his thieving colleagues. As a result of his principled stand and ideas, Tanzania remains one of the most (if not the most) peaceful nations in Africa. We haven't seen civilian war, (comparatively speaking to the rest of the continent) since the Maji Maji rebellion of 1905-1907...(when Germans ruled Tanganyika). Tanzanians have one language. Kiswahili a unifying non tribalistic language. Thanks to Mwalimu (teacher), Nyerere. Do more digging my dear and do justice to some of our departed ancestors. Meantime, keep up your excellent work. We adore what you you do.

The same scenario always happens in Nigeria as well. Late Tunde Idiagbon the then deputy head of state under the military administration of Buhari introduced and formulated so many policies that was reviving Nigeria from her shallow economic pit but Babangida who was also part of the government then for cell took over the power tru coup and brought corruptions, political assassination, bad governance and many evil to Nigeria and there we are till today. I think all Africa youth most come together because we needs mass revolutionary movement to kick out these bastards of Africa and let Africa be.

@Ayres Official the West isnt "stealing" African resources..think of it like this, if the West were stealing Nigerian oil, then how does Nigeria make billions from that resource? usually if you steal something you dont pay for it..the more accurate way of saying it is, the West gave African countries crappy deals that benefit them way more than it benefits Africa..and that needs to change...
@albejaine4 жыл бұрын
@@carsonc29 It definitely hurts Europe, at least at this time, this is what the white powerful men thought. If Africa is not self-sufficient, it says alot about their management and use of resources leaving them open to exploitation. Money is just printed paper, used as a medium of exchange, for the transfer of resources. Getting your money (paper) back (that you yourself printed) means nothing, if you are getting 10 times the value in natural resources.

A rich history like this is there for us to learn, but we never heard of it, from primary to high schools, nothing was said about this man but a lot was thought about foreign histories...is all about our colonial masters everyday...how can Africa go forward? ..Africa must get sankara in each country...in Ghana, we were having Kwame Nkrumah,...in Zimbabwe, they got Mugabe,..Libya-Gaddafi..mention them..🤔 each African countries were having a type of sankara,..but many of them were killed the same way...now, we need replacement of these true revolutionaries in each of our countries, that can fight for Africa's freedom against imperialism....n corruption.. My respect for Julius Malema as sankara in South Africa,..currently, he is the only one fighting for South Africa's against imperialism n corruption for South Africa's n the whole Africa...I can't get,..is like majority of African leaders are wicked,selfish,coward,greedy,corrupt,demons etc n above all they fear our oppressors. Always running to the whites, but we've seen a country in Africa whom were living on their own, everything were made in their own country n they were doing better. Libya🤔 may be,these above great leaders have their bad side,..but we don't have to kill them we have to deal with that bad side in a different way,so that their good side of policies will bring total change n freedom to Africa. Hmm..As a small boy, what do I know?

As Africans we MUST be bold enough to make our dreams come true! All over comment sections in this video & other related ones, I see young Africans praising revolutionary leaders like Sankara & saying how their country needs that. We already know the problem & the solution: get rid of puppets, call out imperialist governments like France, unite as African nations & break the yoke of dependence. But talk is cheap...how far are we willing to go?! In Kenya for example, we continue to accept cheap non-issue based politics & vote along tribal lines. We all know that none of the 2017 candidates are as revolutionary as is needed but we will still vote. Why can't we protest & declare that we want neither! That we want a Sankara...surely there is one amongst us who can rise to the occassion but at the moment lacks opportunity because the Kenyan government, from independence to date, is ran by a cartel. All the election candidates come from the same clique that regurgitates....(continued)

"Will we learn a lesson from Burkina Faso?" HELL NO. You're right, we don't appreciate or celebrate the RIGHT people... and it's our own fault when we suffer - it's all self-inflicted.

I love your Videos! I completely agree, we always lose our best practical presidents because Western countries wants us to be their puppies for ever! We need to say no and overthrow all those guys who work for Western countries. In Somalia women had same right as men, their right respected and people were asked to produce their food and other essential stuff no foriegn aid was allowed. but it never last for long, The man who want to change (Siyad Barre )was overthrown because western countries never liked him. I think we African youth should stand up again. Love from Somalia

Thomas Sankara has an ideal way of governance and he is a great leader, but unfortunately he is a good man in the land of evil. I mean a good man in Africa, that did not add up. Africa is continent that i can say is far from been good, why because slavery is still in existence. But instead of we been chained and taken away in a ship to a foreign land, we are been enslaved in our land by the west using the greed in us which is the greatest asset of an average Africans. The west gave us independent on paper but still colonise us. they are using some greedy idiot among us. They set a stage that we can fight each orher and pretend to stop the fight by adding more fuel to the fire for their benefits, and up till now Africans has not woken up from their sleep. In Nigeria they use Babangida to keep us in a perpetual debt through IMF loan by sponsoring a coup to remove Buhari and Idiagbon, using MKO Abiola as an agent. In Libya they kill Ghadafi, using his own people and military mercinary because of oil. They kill Patrick Lubamba because he refused to be control and aid one of the worst human being in power(Mobutu) In South Africa, apartheid was fought for by south africans but at the end of the day the effort of the people was rubbish by making deal with Mandela. Though Mandela seems to be a great leader portrait by the media but in reality he is a sell out. Though they said no APARTHEID in south africa but SOUTH AFRICANS are still in thesame way they are during the apartheid even worse. The only freedom they have is they are free to walk around without restriction in pain poverty and agony living in shanty town. Africans wake up, they are using us to fight one another for their gain. Buhari has become the new head of state in Nigeria, and the west have stared their tactics again. French president calling him, although that seems a good gesture but it is a decoy of friendship. They invited him to the G7 summit, they know the kind of man Buhari is, these are all tactics to whooo him to their camp. Please Mr Buhari do not conform.

I'm a new subscriber in the US, and honestly, I know very, very little of African history--am trying to start to learn now. But this man was a wonder. That he was not corrupt, at least at first, did so much to encourage the people to be self-sufficient. Of course, it is sad that his gov't also had torture and human rights violations, harassment after the teacher strike, considering the other very good things--the medical improvements/innoculations, food sufficiency, elimination of corrupt govt officials. In my birth country, we also had a revolution and Marxists took over, but they became oppressors, tyrants, instead of liberators, and the country plunged into poverty and human rights violated consistently. It is always sad when someone who starts off doing good devolves into less good, but it's also sad when colonizers can't just STOP meddling. Let nations self-rule. Thank you, Adeola, for some history here. And it gives hope. IF a country can start turning things around in four years, it gives hope.
