While i don't condone the actions of the state and their decision to marry off these young girls instead of educating them, how is the north dragging Nigeria down? How? Has every nigerian president been a northerner, who intentionally keeps the region underdeveloped? Are our governors and other constituents not keeping the baditry alive in the region? I dont see FG soaking all its resources in the north that could keep dragging this country "down". If that's the case, if the north is a back water region of the country, then the south should look something like Dubai or Disneyland right now. Even the US as great as it is has many states that look like barren wastelands filled with uneducated residents compared to places like California, New York etc. Yet despite everything the US will still take pride in everyone of its citizens, come hell or high water. You can sit there and continue to complain and point fingers at each other on whose to blame for the state that Nigeria is in, but remember out of Nigeria we are all one people. Nobody cares which region you come from or your ethnicity. We are all one nation. Let's try to work together. Stop putting the wronv people in positions of power and then you will see real progress 🙏🏽

This is not really about culture but more of the dark side of the kind of religion practised over there. It is shocking on how the minister pandered & cowered into submission. Perhaps to save her position. Honestly and unfortunately, the Islamic northerners are largely the drawback of Nigeria going forward. This is why they would always prefer any person that would allow them practise their religious almost like in medieval times over a person that make the nation prosper. If you look into the arrangements, you will see that many of those girls are married off to very older men in addition to the ones they have. In the end, the incompetent Federal Government (FG) doled out gifts and other benefits to pamper & encourage them. But this same FG cannot throw support to other regions of the nation that have industrious young ones who are determined & ready to create wealth and contribute immensely to the prosperity of the land.

This is so unfair to these women. Education is best thing you can offer anybody especially women, if women are educated they will educate their children. Years ago when Oprah Winfrey asked President Mandela of South Africa what she can do to help South Africa , Mandela told Oprah Winfrey that help educate the young women they will educate their children , so this man what these young girls to get married and destroy their future God is watching

....the minister is more wrong because she should have stood her ground instead of giving in...let all hell blow loose, the world will now know and she would have been an international symbol....she just blew an opportunity, she should have sacrificed her office for what was right...

Being in a bad marriage is same as forcing people with different religion and cultural beliefs to be under one government.

This same religion is working in Arab Emirate, Saudi Arabia etc. But a different kind of the same religion is what we have in Nigeria continuously setting the country back.

The northern should start learning from saudi where woman are being empowered and Allow to marry when they are sure they will be protected. This happening in Nigeria is failure of government and poverty level
