Thomas Tank Dark Side Knock Off Toys Ep20 Thomas TOMY BIG BIG Loader Clone

The Thomas TOMY Big Big Loader toy is a classic toy. In this Dark Side toy study I investigate an elaborate knockoff Thomas & Friends Big Big Loader set thats doing lots to impress. This copy toy cost me $30 and features Thomas, Cranky and Lorry 1. I remember seeing these toys sell really well in the dark markets where these strange toys can be found. This is a very delayed video! What's really nice is as time has passed I was given a real Thomas TOMY Big Big Loader playset so I can make a direct comparison between the real and fake toys. It's quite amazing how much effort has been put into the clone toy. I look online for the prices being asked for the Thomas Big Loader and Thomas Big Big Loader and one thing I noticed was it's very tricky to find the Thomas Big Big Loader for sale. The real toy is a classic, it's plastic fantastic at it's finest. And for some children this style of toy can give many hours of enjoyment. As for the clone toy, don't get too excited about it because I know the weakest link is the important core motorised truck that makes this playset work. Once thats broken the toy no longer works.
All these nasty knock off dark side toys and merchandise are a strong reminder to us of the excellent quality seen in the real licensed Thomas and Friends merchandise, it really is worth paying that little bit more to have toys which are designed and built to last.
In no way can I endorse these knock off products seen in this video, they are low quality and often have small parts which easily break away.

Having had to repair a few TOMY Thomas destinations recently, it's really made me appreciate how TOMY was able to do so much with so little. The entire Big Loader, which first appeared in the 70s, relies on a core which is basically a precise set of gears with a reversing mechanism and gears that interact with the track to slow down at specific places and power parts of the playset. Now you'd just throw a small computer in a toy with this much complexity, but TOMY was making beautiful toys whose only electronics are a single motor back in the 70s. Much later with the dark blue TOMY track system from the 80s and 90s outside of Japan, TOMY was putting small record players in train stations that again were driven by just one motor with a mechanical tone arm to select different station announcements and all acoustic amplification. They shrunk down a similar gearbox with reversing functionality into the train chassis. Then later on with the Thomas sets they were powering conveyer belts using just the engine wheels and when they did make a battery powered destination like the Cranky at the docks they again use a single motor with a complex series of gears to translate continuous motion to alternating linear motion back to alternating rotational to move Cranky back and forth and also raise and lower the stopping section of track to let the engines pass, all activated when said engine arrives on the stopping plate. Glad to see these years old video topics resurfacing. Sad what's happened to your channel and many others.

Classic Leokimvideo video! That dark side set is surprisingly good, even the characters look good. The TOMY one is definitely faster and smoother but like you said the dark side one is perfectly acceptable really. Thomas & Friends don't really care about their online community so I doubt they will send you a set. It's a shame really because it would be cheap advertising for them.

I remember a friend of mine who's father gave her sons a Tomy Big Big Loader, her sons called it "Choo Choo Pickup". I asked her if she would give it to me for my son when her boys were too old to be interested in it anymore and she said yes, but her parents moved and she never saw the set again. But I do remember it, and seeing this video reminds me when I would visit her and her sons at her fathers house where the Big Big Loader was stored.

What a fun product-throwback to what got me into YT creation 8 years ago! $60 AUD for the new one... but will it sell with the current toy generation? Unsure... But yeah, very good for a Knock-Off, seems like less issues than your original Knock off Set, I do prefer the other 2 sets though as there's a bit more 'happening' rather than just sitting in the elevator or something. From memory the reason you can't use Terrence on the Big Big is the small pin in the bucket that keys into the track is too long on Terrence's one and gets caught.

I'm seeing a lot of classic toys being re-released. Put it this way this is the toy industry's last card in the fight to make toys great again. If the classics fail to sell watch the toy companies shrink in size and value. Mattel have lead the way in decline and they can't seem to arrest the falling profits. With a share price thats moving the opposite to the overall share market trend thats saying to me they need a total re-think of what they are selling.

There is so much knock offs made on Thomas & Friends today it's just crazy! And the sad thing is people actually believe this is the real product because some do look very similar it's not even funny & The worst thing is it's very easy to break them so kids could easily choke. Hopefully one day this problem can be fixed but I think It's very unlikely considering how much knock offs are being made.

Its been awhile since I dug out the Big Loader, but I believe the dump truck from the Big Big Loader is the same as the one from the Big Loader only molded in Green, so if you can find a regular Big Loader you should be able to use that part. On a side note there are two more Big Loader sets out there beyond the mail delivery, most people overlooked them as they came out under the Tomica brand only in Japan, one is a quarry and one is a giant dump truck.

The knockoff looks like it's at least a substitute for the real toy since toys like that are so rare and go for high prices. It looks like the knockoff creators stepped up their game and it actually operates, even correcting flaws with the original like the Lorry going under Cranky's ball ramp.

I had the regular version, the one with Thomas Percy and Terrance. That error with the Terrance or whatever the one in the big big loader set is was quite common. To the best of my knowledge/memory it was genuine. I actually had a childhood friend that had one like mine that he never used cause he didn’t know about the guide pins till I told him

If anyone's curious, I found a knock-off item in a second-hand toy shop, one that normally sells real Thomas stuff amongst other things. It was a knock-off of the TOMY Annie. After telling shopkeepers it was a knock-off, they proceed to throw it in the bin.
