The first time I watched this, I didn't think much of it. Now, it actually made eyes water. And to my knowledge, Gordon was in almost every flashback aside from the Old Iron one, making me think Gordon has been Edward's torturer for 120+ Years

Probably had to do with Gordon's own insecurities. Gordon was brought by the Fat Controller to become the primary passenger engine, replacing Edward on the Express. He probably felt it was a lot to live up to Edward.

Let me address several things. First of all, Edward is not being scrapped. He is not even being withdrawn. He is simply retiring from regular service and will work as a more special engine, like, as stated in the episode, Glynn, Stephen, and Neil. And second, for obvious reasons BWBA has no place in my universe, so you can bet you will never see a bright orange engine in Edward's place.

Nia and Rebecca are the worst characters ever made for being stereotypes, a disgrace to two well-loved original engines and deserve absolutely no place in the Thomas universe. All the more reason to respect your work. Basically, I think Mattel forcing extra females into the main cast is clearly going down a similar route to what Marvel Comics did when they replaced all the superheroes with female ethnically-diverse versions of them.

Mattel seems to have something against old-fashioned "unprofitable" characters and thinks kids need only flashy and idiotic characters, but now even the kids agree that these changes are stupid. It's clear Nia and Rebecca are designed for SJW pandering, much like what Marvel Comics tried to do with female ethnically-diverse heroes replacing the iconic male ones.

DrTyler11 The problem is he's likely going to leave off-screen prior to the movie. My guess is Henry leaves Sodor and moves to another railway on the Mainland, because Mattel probably wants him (as well as Edward and Toby) completely written out of the series, and that the claim that the axed characters will "still play heavy roles" on the official site also has me suspecting that it's a trap since Mattel do seem to lie to their customers. One example being a new Thomas & Friends Wood set of Knapford Station which is apparently 95% made of plastic despite the packaging of the Wood products always having a "Real Wood" claim.

Now this is how they could've gone about demoting Edward from main character in the actual series, apposed from what actually happened. it would pack a nice punch that could teach kids that everyone's time comes eventually that they have to grow out of something and move on. Nice job mate.

This was a beautiful episode. I always love it when people make episodes featuring older engines and portraying them like what could actually happen to them if they were real. As Edward is one of my favorite characters, I love the decision to use him in a story where he feels he’s gotten too old to do some of the things he was capable of doing so back then. This just goes to show that not everything will last forever, and there will eventually come a time in our lives when everything must change for the greater good. Looking forward to the next part. :)

Ukraine Ball The show had a recent episode where Edward leaves Tidmouth Sheds to live with Philip at Wellsworth, just because the latter was lonely. But since I have high suspicion that Mattel will write Edward and Henry not just out of the main cast, but probably the show entirely. And having Edward be retired from service would be a justifiable reason if he were to get permanently written out.

Ukarine Ball I feel Henry's departure would be more like sending him to the Mainland where he gets appointed for a new job on another railway because there's not enough jobs for him on Sodor anymore and he probably likes doing hard work rather than barely any work. I feel he could get appointed to work on the LMS, since Crewe was where he got his big rebuild (which happened because Sir Topham Hatt was friends with William Stanier, who was the designer of the engine Henry was rebuilt into, the LMS Class 5MT "Black Five"), and thus the area would be familiar to him. While Henry is sad at the thought of leaving the railway that meant so much to him, he would be at least happy he's still going to do a big and important job at a place that he got to know when he was having his rebuild.

Nichole Williams Yes... This episode could tell us the end of two great characters. But I could also imagine Henry working on the LNER as an express engine. I mean,just look at "Henry gets the express". He was doing the job even better than Gordon. Henry was a mixture of Edward,Gordon,and James. Always kind,a little bit introverted but sometimes cuts to boast for being a big engine. However,we are still waiting dor the progress of BWBA. They are probably going to create backstories how other railways loaned Henry and Edward. But in the actual series,there's NO WAY Edward going to be scrapped. We didn't see any engines getting scrapped on screen,and it would be terrifying for the audience. So the fans shouldn't even think about it.

Ukraine Bell I do feel the LMS makes more sense, considering the events of The Flying Kipper. But when you think about it, maybe Henry would also occasionally work on the LNER with Flying Scotsman due to his efficiency with the Express and having an extra engine would definitely help Scotsman not be as overworked. I do hope Mattel at least acknowledge that the reason for Edward and Henry's likely absence from an in-universe standpoint is because they're on loan to other railways (though since Mattel said on Twitter that they'll never return to the main cast, I bet they'll just permanently live on said other railway), so that that way fans will still know they're there, even if they're not seen on Sodor anymore due to the new SJW feminist characters.

the reveal of Edward wishing to retire is just... i cannot describe it. but i'll try. warm, but depressing at the same time. another thing i would like to point out is the very idea of edward age. with the exception of characters that didn't change much, some had different voice actors in NWR origins, the most obvious being edward. his NWR origins voice sounds happy, chearful, young and eager. his current voice is old and tired, but still gets the message out. this is just a great episode, and i can't wait to see part 2!

anthony n. Henry's not as old as Edward, so probably unlikely he'll retire due to mechanical issues. I feel Henry will probably get promoted to do an important job on another railway on the Mainland, which excites him but also makes him sad because of how much he'll miss the railway and engines that meant so much to him. I could see Henry working on the LMS since he is familiar with Crewe where he had his rebuild, but he could also do jobs on the LNER alongside Flying Scotsman.
