In 2023, I made the very difficult choice to give up my leisure outside of work (reading, TV, movies, etc.) to study for my Series 7 and 66 to become a Financial Planner. Reading isn't a bad habit - it's a great one! So why would I stop reading? Much like what Thomas discussed in this video - it did not support my goals for the end of the year. I worked hard, and I passed! Now I can read all I want because I temporarily made the difficult choice to eliminate something I love to make my life easier and hit my goals.

Thanks, my guy! Took a lot of work. Anyone can absolutely do the same. A year ago, I had no motivation or drive. Once you find a goal you really connect with - go all in, and you will be unstoppable. Vision is what drew me in. I learned (for me) that I'll always have time after the thing to do the things that I love. But now I feel much more fulfilled reading Lord of the Rings without having all the guilt I had before knowing I still had this goal, but making no progress towards it.

This year I'm learning French and I've been struggling with it because I really need to grow my business and there's so many things I need to do on a daily basis that I have no time to study French as I wanted. In addition, I'm not achieving what I want for my business this year. Watching this video made me realize that, yeah, I enjoy learning languages this is one of my passions but it isn't helping me to build my business and it needs to be pause. It hurts, but it's the best decision. Looking at my carrer and business right now, English is the language that will help me throughout this process of building my product and business growth. Besides, there's other good thing that I need to cut temporarily from my life to achieve my goals for this year. Thank you, Thomas!

It's odd seeing a Thomas vid getting 38k in 3 days. One of the best youtubers to ever exist in this genre. But It's probably because of his decision to change the main focus off that channel to his other channels. and other areas. But anyways, huge respect for this guy.
@Thomasfrank9 ай бұрын
It's picking up :) But I also don't worry about it so much. I took a 2-year break, so a lot of my original audience likely moved onto other interests. From the algorithm's perspective, my channel is in the middle of building a new one (though some people have likely still stuck around!) Subscriber count is also a weird metric. It's almost like counting the amount of money that has ever entered your bank account, rather than the amount that's still there.

That’s amazing I came across this video because I literally mare a rough outline yesterday of exactly how you are goal setting 😁😁 except I use mind maps and keep asking myself questions of the bigger goal for example. extrinsic broad goal: I want to read more books Okay why do you want to achieve it? What are you going to do to achieve your goal? Where will you find these books? what type of books will you read? insert more questions… I feel like the biggest thing when it comes to achieving goals is understanding the clarity of why, how and what. 😁

I don’t want to go on a mile / 1 km run, I want to improve my cardiovascular health. You're in luck! We're working on videos about both of those things. I'm reading The Lean Startup right now, and chapter 9 has just about the best argument against perfectionism I've ever read. That whole book is a fantastic cure for perfectionism, honestly, but chapter 9 in particular. So we're working on a whole video about it! Working on a video about distraction as well. I'll spoil that one up front: I deleted social media from my phone - no blockers, no time limits, just fully deleted it all. Worked wonders. It's so simple, but we often don't take seriously enough the effects of having access to social networks at all times.

Definitely noticed some 7 Habits and Atomic Habits influence. Maybe 4DX too? Do you see having learned to code as a valuable asset in overseeing your team?
@Thomasfrank9 ай бұрын
Yes! I think it was very, very valuable for me to have done. I was listening to a talk by one of the AirBnb founders the other day, and he mentioned that a lot of founders code a bunch in the beginning and then eventually stop when the company grows and they hire (and oversee) more talented developers. At that point, their focus naturally has to shift toward building processes and the company as a whole. That's the point I'm at now. Still kinda sucks because I really do enjoy the puzzle-solving aspect of coding - but having gone through a think-week and the process I described in this video, I'm come to see building the company itself and navigating the adventure of building a new product as puzzles of their own. As for influences, they're likely there unconsciously - I've read both AH and 7H! Don't know what 4DX is though.
@BryanKofsky9 ай бұрын
@@Thomasfrank Thanks for the great response. 4DX is a great companion to 7 Habits, written by Steven Covey's son, Sean Covey.
