I think one of the biggest contributors to Luigi's popularity is the fact that it's a lot easier to relate to being afraid and preservering than it is to stand against an immposible force with a generic hero stance. ... To be fair to Mario though, they have been mixing up his relationship to bowser a bit. At least, they did in Bowser's fury. No idea if they'll carry the attitude into future games but I can hope!

I also think he genuinely has potential. Considering how he only seems to appear in dreams (I'm pretty sure that the LoZ game in which he appeared was a dream), he could be made into a sort of a non-scary, family-friendly version of Freddy Krueger, being a character that appears regularly on people's dreams, and his role varies from dream to dream, from being a hero to being a villain. I feel like there's a lot of potential there for a very unique character.

The options might not have been worded the best. “I like them” is a positive response. “I don’t like them” is a neutral response, not a negative one. For example, when people don’t know a character, it’s impossible for them to like the character so they say “I don’t like them.” It’s also impossible for them to hate the character, but that’s not an option on the form so you can’t tell that based on the results.

I personally like the female characters. They have a certain charm to them. Toadette: Probably one of my favorites because of her pig tales. She has a bright personality. She somehow can pulls off the girly girl look while still being sort of heroic looking. Birdo: She’s great and probably the most unique character design. (Also she’s a villain which makes me like her more for some reason XD) Rosalina: I love how graceful she is and they gave her a strong backstory. Daisy: She seems cool, idk much about her. Pauline: I really love how they added her back into Mario Odyssey as this glamorous gal Peach: probably the most bland character due to her stupidity but idk why but I love to fill in the blanks with my own theories on why she acts the way she does.

The Wario Land games were some of the first I *ever* beat at the tender ages of 6-8. They were a godsend to beginner gamers and made me feel like such a good gamer at such a young age (the only other one I remember beating that young was Super Mario Bros. Deluxe). For that, Wario will _always_ rank higher than the neglected sporty guy who people really wanted in a platformer fighter game series.

Hopefully most of that is coincidental, I know characters like Daisy and Birdo have been actively viewed as annoying for a long time so most people still hold that negative impression of them, but either way that really sucks :( I think pretty much all the female Mario characters are perfectly fine. The Mario Kart "remix" characters are generally not from RPG's. Baby Peach is the only one of those characters that originated in an RPG (being from Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time). The reason that Baby Daisy, Baby Rosalina, and Pink-Gold Peach specifically get so much hate is because they all originated in Mario Kart (Baby Daisy in Wii, the other two in 8). I think Baby Rosalina also gets some extra hate for going against Rosalina's canon younger design from Super Mario Galaxy.

It's because of how annoying , toxic and obnoxious some people were about adding him in Smash. up until Sephiroth's reveal, you couldn't go a single Smash character-reveal video without a bunch of people commenting "next character should be Geno" "Geno for Smash Sakurai" "Geno this, Geno that". it got old fast and soon just became annoying to the point where people began to hate the mere mention of Geno

They're copy-paste clones that take up slots that could've been easily replaced with other, more unique characters like the other ones mentioned, like Diddy Kong, Pauline, or even the Broodals (who no one also likes apparently, but I digress). In games with larger rosters overall, it's not as egregious, but keep in mind that out of 30 characters in the base game of MK8, 7 of them were clones. That's more than 20%, and they cut out veterans. There's crazy, and then there's lazy. Compare that to Smash 4's 3(?) out of a base roster of 51, and they got a redemption arc. Also, babies...can be annoying, really really annoying.

People suck, when I was a kid, my older cousin told me that Wart was Bowser's cousin (which I think he just made up) and I wanted to see a universe where both Bowser and Wart were reoccurring villains, just as how TV shows generally had a main villain but also other ones. Like say how Rescue Rangers had Fat Cat, but also Professor Norton as the mad scientist. Some people loathe SMB2, but it's a good game and I wish we could go back to that universe. I'd like to see a game with Wart as a villain and his minions going against Bowser. And since SMB2 was a game about choosing different characters with different attributes you could maybe make Bowser align with Mario and friends to take down Wart, because as we have seen, people like Bowser a lot. Also, why put Geno in a poll but not Mallow. When I played SMRPG, I didn't use Geno much but used Mallow all the time, due to certain bosses being weak to lightning or snow. But I think overall, your survey didn't actually give accurate results because people just disliked the characters they didn't know.

It'd be one thing if it was a personality-less tool but it talks and responds to situations with a clear enough "opinion" on what's going on, giving it a personality (and yes, Robotic" is a personality. Just ask Fi from The Legend of Zelda)

Like when Mario is in prison it says "tomorrow we will do our best to resolve the situation" which seems to be it being somewhat motivating. When Bowser Jr escape with Peach after defeating Mecha Bowser you hear it go "No! Not again" implying it has some sort of worry or investment in what is going on and then finally when it breaks at the end it asks if it was helpful in its dying words, like it cares. Like sure, I am not trying to say FLUDD is a deep, complex character or anything but it honestly had more personality that most other characters on the list. Of course it is a game mechanic first but I honestly think it has more personality and character that Fi does to be honest. She only seems to show some sort of personality at the end of the game, yet I would 100% call her a character too.

I like to think Bowser's brother (or Browser, as I call him) is the one managing day-to-day life for the wider koopa population, while Bowser acts more as a military leader and official figurehead. Such behaviour seems to be expected of the head of the state, as one look at Bowser's ancestral fortress in Odyssey reveals the Koopa Dynasty's long history of warfare and conquest, however the inclusion of a gift shop implies that when not actively being invaded by plumbers, the citadel's role is that of tourist attraction. Perhaps this is why Bowser's tactics always seem so relatively tame for someone in charge of a massive military power. He always aims to non-lethally terrorize those he invades while leaving the wider population completely alone. This bullying allows him to fulfill his ancestral duties as a warmonger and serve as a properly despotic role-model for his son, all while minimizing collateral.

Wart is off because of the lack of a “don’t know” option. Since you can’t like a character you don’t know, people will pick “don’t like” by default. If a “don’t know” option did exist, it would be safe to say that Wart would’ve been majority “don’t know.” Same could go for the Broodals, Geno, and obviously Bowser’s brother. However, I would agree on the Female bias though. Peach, Daisy, Birdo, and Toadette are too popular for “don’t know”’s to have a significant impact on their results.

However they're some with different reasons: Peach: Vanilla damsel in distress character or people being salty for rejecting Mario in Odyssey (Not realizing it was because she was feeling overwheled) Honey Queen Bee: A random choice for a character in Mario Kart 7 despite only showing up for a weird level in both Galaxy games and replacing Waluigi Rosalina: When she made into 3D World and Smash 4, people where started to get annoyed at her for being overused. Tho, it could also come from Odyssey Central fans. "OoH, rOsAlInA = cRiNgE. LAUGH, DAMN YOU!" I think Wart got the lowest results because people simply don't know him due of only apparening in Mario 2 (USA) and a cameo in Link's Awakening

Some of these I understand. Luigi is my personal favorite character largely due to his shy, cowardly, and awkward persona. When it comes to Peach I noticed people tend to hate her because they find her character boring or she’s “generically nice” (which,I mean, all of them can be considered this)Do people still not like Daisy?? He's confident and caring, willing to risk his own life to protect everyone (even creatures he only met seconds ago). He loves food and competition but he can be a sore loser sometimes (While his reaction to losing is different in each game, I think it fits his personality well as he's probably not used to losing). He also isn't much of a talker either. I like both of them the same tho.

I think it's pretty easy to explain why the Broodlings aren't liked. For a start, it's pretty obvious that someone high-up in the dev team told some concept artists to make "new Koopalings that aren't Koopalings because we don't want to use Koopalings", but then also gave no character direction or opportunities for character presentation (let alone development) in-game. They're basically just a collection of half-assed bosses that don't ingrain themselves with or impact the players since they're absolutely trivial obstacles that don't even get removed from the pantheon once you beat them. They're non-entities.

On Bowser's brother I chose "I don't like him" because I don't know him, therefore I can't like him. If I had to choose between "I like him" and "I dislike him" I may have chosen differently
