To the best of my knowledge, the reason the pah!s are reused in New is because it was meant to be a quick and easy project for all the devs, recycling assets from Super Mario 64 DS. This is why the eel enemies use Unagi's model, Dorrie shows up, etc. New recycling instruments as well feels par for the course, and connects those games in a really interesting way. On that note it's really funny that all the holdovers carried all the way into Wonder are borne out of something meant to essentially serve as filler.

Many Kirby games feature a Roland keyboard sample that Roland themselves sampled from an earlier sample from Fairlight (the first computer intended for music production) - called ARR1 or SARARR. This sample was also featured prominently in many pop songs from the 1980s to the 2000s, most notably Tears for Fears' Shout. It's a very distinctive sound - a lo-fi recording of an Australian woman by the name of Sarah Cowan singing "uhh". In Kirby circles, it's known as "That Synth". I still regularly use the sampled voice of a former friend, grateful to live in a time when the technology is accessible to anyone with the interest and patience to take advantage of a device they already own. I sometimes think about how a half-second audio clip of a now-stranger saying "aah" into my laptop's microphone has been recontextualized, repeated, etc., so many times, and I don't even try to make it sound like a voice half the time... yet often do... it's amazing how quickly our species has gone from never hearing the same sound twice to being able to hear it thousands of times per minute with wavetable software. Now, I'm thinking about all the interns at electronic music equipment companies that had nice sultry voices, were asked if they could say "aah" into a microphone, and despite their lack of vocal training or practice, ended up on hit records and amateur recordings on the Internet - only to be fired in a week.

I think the syllable in Ashley's Theme mistaken for "hell" is 'tal' in "pantalones giganticus". But the funny thing is the Japanese version has a similar easter egg put there intentionally-- the chant she sings, if reversed, spells what can be pronounced as "Made in Wario is Number One" (Made in Wario is the Japanese name of WarioWare). The English localization, while it did a good job, just made up something silly. Also there are more hidden sounds like that in MK8, including Nook's Cranny, K.K. Slider playing a different song depending on the season, and Yoshi (appropriately) humming Totaka's Song and a unique thing that's just super cute. I know like dozens more of these facts, I have to restrain myself from rambling about them.

The Bah Bah sound has always been my favourite sound in New Super Mario Bros, ever since I first played the 3DS version. That's among the reasons New Super Mario Bros. And Nintendo are my childhood.
@skylark.kraken10 ай бұрын
I hate the sound because I always play games muted and with the game muted it just makes enemies act unpredictably. It would have been nice for the game to recognise that it was muted and so it shouldn't make them stop or turn around or whatever. I went back to NSMB2 and quit after being hit too many times by enemies acting to the music. I have auditory processing disorders and don't like noise especially game music as it's a bit much. Those bah bah sounds make the game a lot more tedious for me and I'm probably not going to bother completing NSMB2 because of them
@ignatiousmary841310 ай бұрын
@@skylark.kraken Nintendo did overuse the Bahs in NSMB2 by just taking NSMBWii's songs and adding extra bahs into them with nothing else really new. The "Satanic message" in Wario Ware very much reminds me of the old Satanic Panic here in the US I know of; especially when people would turn records backward to reveal "hidden Satanic messages." It's no surprise that the cause here is every bit as simple, and ironic that it's in a highly similar scenario, with both revolving around turning record discs. For those who may not know, turning a record backward in real life while still playing it simply scratches the record to heck; take that as a pun if you want; and ruins it, making it make noises that humans' naturally pattern-seeking brains interpret as "backward messages."
@MarioMastar10 ай бұрын
Yeah, definitely more of fans blowing it way out of proportion than intentional. When they brought the record back in Wario Ware Gold, they added pitch shifts and now randomize the speed and added gibberish sounds so it's not possible to accidently hear the offending phrase. I’d heard about the Wrinkly Kong easter egg before today and it always sounded just vague enough to me to be coincidental - but the fact that she’s playing an N64 means there’s no way it’s not intentional. That makes it even cooler to me, knowing that Rare either had the insider intel from Nintendo to be able to include the preview, or that they referenced the Japanese hardware early in order to do so.

Love it. One if the best I found was in Mario Galaxy, where hovering over a menu button plays a note from a melody that complements the current background music. It's a bit hard for me to describe, but quickly moving the cursor over menu items reveals a whole extra melody in every background music. They did this more in later games I think.

This is your best video ever!!!!!! I didn't know any of this!!!! All of it is really cool!!!! I think the craziest ones are the WarioWare one and the Wii Sports morse code one!!!! thank you for making this video!!! Keep up the great work Thomas Game Docs!!!!

The internet has in backwards-it isn’t that every copy of Mario 64 is personalized, it’s that Mario 64 has infected every game after it. 😉

A minor note: Flipnote Studio is a 2D animation app, not a stop-motion animation app. Stop-motion animation strings together photos taken of objects between altering their positions which gives the appearance of movement. Examples include claymation, brickfilms, movies like Chicken Run, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Coraline etc..

Now THAT is a good homage. The melody, rhythm AND pitch is the same, unlike DK Mountain where the rhythm lines up but the melody is different. Almost completely different, just using similar notes.(Hehe sorry for being pedantic, but as a musician myself it bugs me they're not as similar as they sound to an untrained ear looking for similarities), but the Mario Party 2 thing is so on point as even I didn't know that until you just mentioned it.

One thing I feel adding to the last bit about the SMW Special World theme in the original SNES game (idk about the GBA version), if you let it play for like, 5 to 10 minutes, it will change into SMB1 classic level's theme, it's something I found out because I really LOVE idling on game's menus for no reason at all lol.

This was a bizarre video, I noticed the bah sound from new super mario bros came from mario 64, but that it's orgin was some obscure cd from the 90's is wicked. And boo's merry go round within the teacup ride is a verry hidden song. Well done finding it! Also I like you with long hair! I'm used to you with shorter hair, so this was a pleasant surprise!
