I realise that in this video I failed to go over my DJI history, which led to my conclusion. See below: Phantom 4 - great. No issues. Mavic 1 - encountered fly always & it was glitchy. Mavic Air - perfect, until one day it began moving by itself, a lot. I lost confidence. DJI Osmo Action - Bricked after a month of light use. Had to send back for repair. Wireless Mics - Amazing, until the receiver stopped taking a charge. Sent back for repair after 3 months. Mavic Air 2 - no issues. Love it. Pocket 3 - broke down at the worst possible time. Unexplained & not weather related. So, why do I keep buying them? Because they're so good!!! It's worth the uncertainty 😂

I enjoyed your video and do empathize. A few calmly made observations for balance below: Bug 1. Back compatibility of DJI Mic Gen 2 works with Pocket 3. Generation 1 Mics do not without an adapter You make a reasonable point about the Mics but most electronics manufacturers have limits on back compatibility between new and old products. I assume you have Gen 1, surprisingly. Bug 2. Weather sealing. Get an Action camera if filming in extreme conditions (they also have some major compromises) - Pocket 3 is certainly not such a camera. Bug 3. Annoying pop-up for 5 to 10 seconds when Mic first connects. Your middle name is Victor, right? Genuinely, a chill pill may be in order - especially after your nightmares with the Rode Mic (which I also had) 😉 Bug 4. Freezing up. You reported pretty cold conditions in Mongolia. Pocket 3's Operating Temperature 0° to 40° C (32° to 104° F). Caveat emptor. Incidentally, to prove the point about action cameras, the Action 4 minimum operating temperature is -20C (-4F). Therefore, you've made some valid points but I am not thinking its fair especially on Bug 4. I totally understand the frustration of the Pocket 3 'freezing' at a critical moment but you can't discount the temperature so if I were DJI I would be understandably feeling a bit of unjust criticism. FULL DISCLAIMER I have absolutely no relationship with DJI and I am not a fanboy. I hated the Pocket 1 and would never have another version of it. I have had good experiences with DJI Air 2S, DJI MICs (Gen 1) and most recently the Action 4 which i think is great (not as good with low light versus Pocket 3 but still very good). You could get the Insta 360 Ace Pro (but you might never see yourself in focus again) 😀 Happy vlogging! ;-)

Hi, thank you for this nice video. I'm also a Pocket 3 owner and I have a few comments: 1) In my personal opinion, I find it controversal to buy Pocket 3 for it's great image quality and then publish footages from ungraded D-Log M. I understand you like it more that way, but as your audience I didn't really enjoy to watch those footages. 2) I agree with the reliability point and I believe it's crucial. On my old Pocket 2, it happened for a few times that the footage had no audio (I use the internal mic only). 3) It makes a lot of sense to buy Pocket 3 without the creator combo. It all depends what style of videos you make. 4) The weather-sealing point is very important too. For myself, I decided to get the Action 4 as a backup camera in case Pocket 3 fails or the weather is bad. Cheers

Do you have the latest firmware? I think someone mentioned that at least the last firmware has the possibility of tracking the face not directly in the middle but at some other point. So I would guess that there is a newer firmware...

I bought the pocket one and despite me using and abusing it even in light rain, it still works. When the action 2 came out I bought one and it refused to connect to any phone and it bricked, so I thought maybe I got unlucky and got a bad egg, returned it, tried to connect the new one and on attempt 3/5 to connect to my phone I contacted customer service and while they were walking me through the exact process I'd already tried that one also bricked. Returned it, got a refund and bought the Insta360 One RS which connected instantly with no issues. Needless to say that experience didn't fill me with confidence to buy more DJI products.

You had me laughing pretty hard at the end when you said "Dont buy one, buy two" Ive flown my DJI Phantom 3 for years and just bought Diji Mini 4 Pro drone, so far love it. I recently started video podcasting and wanted to have a VLOG-ing style camera to hit the road with. I was debating between a DJI gimble for my IPhone or the Osmo Pocket 3. Still on the fence but the thing that i like he most is external storage on a SD card rather than having to do file transfers via emailing it to yourself or icloud. Great review. Thanks

I have had a Osmo 3 with mic for a couple of months and took it to Southeast Asia. It was a total pleasure and easy to use and relatively cheap. I wouldn’t care if it broke or got stolen. My Leica SL2S provides better image quality, but after the cost of a good lens the cost is one tenth. If anything happened to this camera I would buy one immediately.
@thelonghorncow50842 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing; I think that the dji pocket 3 is more for "indoor, good weather outdoor and gentle" uses! For you, I think the "Action 5 pro" would fit much better for your outdoor filming (rough use styles)??
@RamblingOn9 ай бұрын
When you are using the face tracking option, you could shoot in 4:3. Then, recompose and crop in post without losing any image quality. If you were to buy two cameras, maybe having the pocket paired with the osmo action 4 would be good for the harsher weather conditions. They also have the same log profiles so the footage will look the same from each camera. Your Iceland and Mongolia trips were fantastic 🍀

I guess it is more luck/bad luck because I used my pocket 2 for over 3 years doing more than 100 youtube videos and never had 1 single problem of reliability with it. Same with my drone, that's one of the main reasons I buy DJI products, can't say the same about my gropro for example. Great video!!

Ive lost my mables on numerous occasions with the amount of times its crashed and had to reset it only to have it crash yet again. The lack of firmware updates was another massive issue. I would never go back now. Ive owned mine since November, took it out on lots of wild camps and not had a single issue apart from it looses face recognition at times. Thanks Thomas for the review, Ant 👍 I love my DJI Pocket 3!

High elevation areas known to get consumer electronics in troubles sometimes. Moisture, atmospheric pressure changes, etc. So backup is essential, also humidity control is essential - keep it in small pelican with some silica gel pockets just in case. Might help. Also high end smartphone could be a good backup camera this days.

@ThomasHeatonPhoto thanks for the absolutely honest video, very in line with my DJI experience. Only reason for me to go for the Pocket is the follow function. Other then that, my phone does great as vlog cam and so that would be a solid backup as I always carry it. - On a different note, one thing I'd like to ask if I may? Half way through you are mentioning it is a sponsored video and you give the sponsor some airtime. But at the same time, your video was interrupted every 2nd minute for youtube ads. I do understand and respect that your great work deserves the monetization, but this was way too much for me to be honest...

This is a great video with the exception of blaming DJI for what appears to be an issue with operating devices with lithium-ion batteries in cold/freezing temperatures. Would recommend that you do some research on lithium-ion battery limitations. I see two possible issues here, both related to temperature. 1 - keep your batteries close to your person to keep them from nearing freezing temperatures and/or warm them up prior to using them. Battery performance goes down the colder it is. 2 - NEVER charge batteries when below, or near, freezing temperatures. This can/will cause permanent damage to your batteries. In this case, I would not have attached the battery extender unless both devices have been warmed by body heat. Note: I've hiked up Mount Fuji, in the summer, and experience similar behavior with lithium-ion flashlights and digital cameras that were stored in my pack while ascending. While it was chilly out, it wasn't close to freezing temps, yet. Function was restored after several minutes of heating just by body heat.

Great video! I completely agree with you that it's disappointing the Pocket 3 isn't compatible with the DJI Mic 1. Just discovered this newest Osmo pocket cam and started researching because there is lots that seems extremely functional for a lot of my art media work. TONs of valuable info here but yeah, reliability could be a critical deal breaker. I plan to learn more and see if this reliability issue is addressed when I check back in on it few months down the road. Only hope I can find a review of a 2024.10 // 2025.02 version that's half as thorough and honest. Great job! Especially all the titled video and mic / camera audio examples! And please say Hey to Perth for me next time you're at the WA end... been 5 years since my 2 months (Easter) visit down under for the Blazing Swan burn. I've been using the Pocket 3 since launch and I've yet to encounter a malfunction. With that said, there's certainly enough documented issues to make it clear that there is a problem with reliability. Couldn’t agree more on your arguments concerning reusability of DJI products. Worst example for me, apart from Pocket 3 and DJI Mic, is the DJI Smart controller in use for Mavic Air 2 and not usable for any drone released since. Upward compatibility is no design requirement for DJI obviously. Unfortunately they make very nice products. So Pocket 3, Action 4. And Mic2 are a great combination. Until the moment one of these products sees a new version of course😂.
