While both have nice riffs, the modern groove metal often loses the "groove" in favor of overly complicate guitar riffs and drums beats, which defeats the purpose sometimes of creating a groove. Most of that old school stuff was heavy and straight 4/4 time signatures you could bob your head to easily.

Completely agree. Maybe you’ve already posted one but I’d love to see a behind the scenes or a “making of” video. It must be a ton of work coming up with the set list, programming the drums, laying down the guitars, mixing etc…. Etc I’m guessing that by the time you get to the video work, all the audio is largely complete so you’re maybe playing “air guitar” to your own recordings? The technique really doesn’t matter much because the end result is just plain awesome! Just be fun to see how you do it.

Agreed. I have a hard time finding modern bands that don't do that and it's a shame. It makes all the songs sound exactly the same and there's nothing to really headbang to. Maybe you'll get 10 seconds of a catchy riff, but that's it. One band I'm glad I found though is Sanguisugabogg. They're technically Death Metal, but they have some really dirty, catchy riffs that get stuck in my head.

We should’ve learned that when malmsteen started making music, yea he’s complex and fast and it’s cool at first but then gets old fast and theirs nothing memorable or emotional about it, that’s why Dime is my ranked 1 guitarist, he knew the true essence of music and that all that technicality and complex theory is bs

I've got to agree with the majority here. The 90's Slayer, Pantera, & Machine Head riffs were true to the Funk and R & B rule of always accentuating the "1". Which goes all the way back to the James Brown days with Bootsy Collins. If you want to keep it in the "deep pocket", you know where to put your roots. And that's why 90's metal has that foot stomping (or head moshing) groove. Modern metal explores the concept of high math, poly-rythms & other advanced timing concepts because it's never been done before. But there's still some crossover. Even Gojira's Stranded grooves like hell. Whereas Megadeth's Ashes in your mouth has note phrasing much like the new stuff. But in the end, it's all Heavy Metal & it's still alive and well. Even if it's a niche genre today. I love both the old and new & it'll never fall out of fashion.
