I was there in 2014. It was the best biker experience I have ever had. The mileage was tough 7,200km in 11 days. Started in Oslo drove up through Sweden, Finland the Tri international border (Norway Finland Russia) near Kirkenes. On up to Nordkapp. Then south traveling down the beautiful west coast. Taking in Tromso, Lofoten Islands, Geirangerfjord, Bergen, Preikestolen and then back to Oslo. Please don't let the expensive reputation put you off. All in all It was a cheap holiday. We mostly camped and sometimes used a cabin. Petrol was not crazy maybe a bit higher then home (Ireland) but not much. Shop in supermarkets mentioned. The only thing we noticed and to watch out for is most places closes at 9pm. Most importantly no access to campsites if you are caught late getting to a destination. Wild camping may not always be an option. As for alcohol, we only had a drink in the last night in Oslo. Nothing remarkable cost wise. WORD OF WARNING! One of our group was done for speeding in Bergen by an unmarked police car (all blacked out Audi). He got fined 7,800nok (743e). It was our second last day and a bit of a bummer to the end of the holiday. We were all well warned about strict traffic laws and expensive speeding fines. It is difficult to get from Ireland to mainland Europe, for time saving we used a company where they took our bikes a week before, with all the luggage to Oslo. So bikes were delivered and ready to go when we arrived. We flew from Dublin to Oslo (Rigg) with just biker gear and helmet. It saved about 7-8 days of traveling

If campsites are "closed" or no one at the reception, you can find yourself a spot for tent and just talk with them the next day. If you need to rent a cabin it may be worse. But you can always call in early and book a place and let them stick the key in the door for you :-) Yes, speeding in Norway are not recommended :-P

Great info Thomas, thanks for making this video. As a norwegian I might take the opportunity to add a couple of things: 1. One can camp for free in Norway. Unlike most other countries everybody is allowed to camp almost everywhere, but not on farmed land and minimum 100-150 meters away from nearest inhabited house. 2. Unlike most other countries around the world most norwegian shops, grocery shops, supermarkeds, farmacies, hardware stores, clothing stores etc etc are closed on sundays. There are a few exceptions from this but in general most shops are closed on sundays. Thus do your shopping monday to saturday...

Thank you for the video and I love your country! I traveled in Norway with a motorcycle during the summers of 2017 and 2018. It was absolutely majestic, constant jaw-dropping vistas, safe, and very good roads everywhere. One thing that I'd like to add is that even in July, the high mountain passes could get very cold and and you need to bring extra layers and wind/waterproof gloves.

Hello Peter, and thank you for the comment :-) Norway is amazing in so many ways. And yes, even at summer there can be alot of snow in the mountains and it can be really cold :-) Things like this is easy for us who live here to take for granted.

I have a perfect substance for scaring away all those little critters. Where i live we have also millions of those tiny and hardly visible mosquitos. My dad always did call them Jehova flies. Because if you would hit yourself on your right side of your face another couple of hundreds would attack you on your left en vica versa. Don't know if you have the same breed as we have in Holland but ours do not sting. They take little bites out of your skin and go dizzling in your ear. And when you want to try to sqeeze then with you finger they go futher and futher in your earcanal.😬 But what i have got works great but the stuff is also used by hunters to attrack boars.😇 Life is about making choices is it not?😂

Very nice and informative video Thomas, good news about Nordkapp and ferries. I have a EasyGo Plus box that work in Denmark, Austria, Norway and other countries for my RV, good that ferries are included as well (worked at ferries between Denmark and Germany also since vefore). I found seafood very low cost at the stores so we ate more of those delicatesses last time in Norway. Gas are no more expensive than over here.
@tshansen
@tshansen 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Mattias :-) Yeah, the Nordkapp fee is almost embarrassing. It's sickening that privat company's has been allowed to take charged for a piece of land that every citizen ownes. Yeah, the Autopass is good if you have a deal with them. 50% off the price but i dont know how it works for tourist, and if you can get a card that last the time you are here? The RV community may have much more information about this. Seafood are fresh and cheap in Norway. Same with some of the meat. You just need to know what to look for. I think gas/fuel are the same price in most part of Europe

Thanx for this kind hints and sympathic "teaching". I.ve been in NOR in 2018 and it was by far the best trip I.ve ever done (except of British Columbia). This year I will visit Norway again on my BMW 1150 GSA (called "das Eisenschwein" --> iron pig). I am very happy to come again, and I loved the calm riding because of speed limits and the very nice people everywhere!!! Thanx, Henry 👍🤓

Fantastic Thomas and I was wondering how your English was so good!! I would love to tour Norway on a motorbike but getting there would be a problem from Canada lol. You present yourself and Norway as a much quieter and slower pace life style than North America. I realise you are filming out in the countryside but your drone aerials close to towns does not show tons of cars etc. I kinda chuckled that you leave a camera on a tripod and then film yourself riding past it for a while and of course you would need to go back and pick it up but here I am afraid someone would quickly pull over and take it before you got back to where it was!!

Haha, thank you Mike 😇 It is a looong way from Canada, but I guess you guys have areas that looks similar to what we have in Norway? Hehe, I have never been to Canada myself, so I'm not sure how to compare, but here in Norway we are only about 5 million living here. So it is a large country with a lot of space. And that is one of the best things about living here to be honest 🙈 leave the camera behind here in Norway has never been a problem. I guess there are places in Europe I would be more worried 😉

Hello Thomas, the best product against mosquitos and black flikes is definitely citronnela oil, which can be bought in any pharmacy. Jjust put some on a bandana around your throut, some on your hans and in your hair and you'll be OK. In addition, keep a mosquikto net hat, that can be bought in most sporting goods stores and you can enjoy both nature and being outside, even in the summer. Good video with useful info!
