Abusive really Jason Aaron? Odin always has loved his son. Yes he has fought and hit Thor before but only when it was necessary. He denied death moved the heavens and reality for his son. He truly cared about Thor and was not in any way abusive.
@christopherhicks99445 жыл бұрын
What could have depleted Odin's power? I was under the impression that the only thing that weakens Odin is the Odin Sleep and the time near the Odin Sleep. I mean, it would make sense but it comes across as Aaron just saying he weakened Odin for no reason. I really wish Aaron had a better understanding of these characters. Odin has always been quite stubborn, but it has never really been to the point that the reader was left questioning Odin's love for his son. Thor always seemed to have a great respect for Odin. The way everyone is acting just seems like they are different characters.
@camaradiop37315 жыл бұрын
I was wondering the same. The Odin Power declines through lack of rest, but replenishes after the Odin Sleep. Additionally, Odin shouldn't have to come to Tony Stark for ANYTHING; what happened to the Grand Vizier of the 1970's Thor run?
@louisvictor34735 жыл бұрын
The idea of Odin coming to Tony for help with an addiction isn't per se bad. Ties to Tony coming to Odin during fear itself, tables turned sorta thing. But this execution is asinine and character assassination. Instead of "I have always been a drunk", it could have been "with asgardia and old asgard gone to shit, my powers depleting, my wife doesn't give two shits about me, my fav son hates my guts, my other son stabbed his mother and is aligned with the enemy (as much allegiance Loki offers), my brother is a psycho, my daughter is alive but gives no fucks about me and my powers are almost gone, I pulled a mortal and turned into a drunk, this is the lowest I have ever been... but I know a guy who might know a thing or two about turning to alcohol and having gis life ruined, might go incash out that favor". Now it doesn't ruin his past, but it is new territory, you can explore the bloody concept without shiting on everything that came before.

I haven't bought a Thor comic since Aaron gave Mjolnir to Jane, so I'm not here to comment on any specific narrative or story, but the last time I did was Aaron's run on Thor, and while it was entertaining in parts I just noticed that he (and Marvel writers in general) wants to tell a human story using mythological/magical/superhuman characters. Whereas other writers take on Thor (or any other powerful character with a sci-fi or fantasy background) seeking to write a story about Asgardian characters walking among men and dealing with uber powerful villains. It's one thing to inject human or humanistic elements in a fantasy adventure story, it's another to treat said characters as basically regular people who happen to have powers. It's how I feel about MCU Thor as well. He doesn't seem like a mystical , godly knight with crazy powers and poetic dialect, but rather a goofy fratboy who happens to be a powerful alien*. I think Aaron mostly built his run off of Matt Fraction's previous work. Fraction sort of turned Thor and Odin into brutish and thuggish boors with deep issues, whereas JMS' Thor was a modernized take on classical Thor. Similar proper speech pattern (not quite Shakespearean though), quite powerful and examining the meaning of Asgardian godhood among humans. Only issue I had was bringing Asgard to Oklahoma at the time, though we'll never know how JMS would have concluded his run and where he would've taken Thor afterward. * It's also how i feel about Aaron's Thanos Rising story.

Who are these characters? They have a resemblance to the characters created by Lee and Kirby but they do not act the same. These were my reactions with Jason Aaron's Thor Run. Thor: God of Thunder - Wow! This story is sooo good! It maybe confusing with the time-travel and all, but damn! Thor using two Mjolnirs and All-Black? King Thor has the Odin-Force which is now renamed as the Thor-Force? Sign me up! Thor 2014: Goddess of Thunder - Well, this is a unique. . . concept. . . well, I can't wait to see who it is---Wait, Jane Foster of all people?! W-Whuh? Odin's arrogant? H-How? Well, I think this will still be good, right? Mighty Thor - Okayyyyy. . . Uh. . . .it's. . . decent. . . I guess? Thor 2018 - Fuck this, I lost my hope. The art is gay (except the issue with "Erika the Red") and why the actual fuck is Odin every single drunk and cruel father in the anime origin stories? I mean, sure, the future is cool and all, but fuck this. I'm out of here.

Right? Like, Odin is LITERALLY the Norse God of Wisdom. He sacrificed his eye to the Well of Mimir and hung himself in yggdrasil for days just to gain more knowledge and wisdom. Now he's been reduced to stubborn, old, drunk asshole of a father and a fool? Why? It's hard to not answer that question with Jason Aaron legitimately dislikes Thor and his cast and is deliberately trying to make them terrible.

This is pretty much it. As a stand alone it’s an interesting enough story but outside of that, it’s a massive slap in the face to they Odin that we know and a complete bastardisation of what he has always been (outside of Jason Aaron’s own BS since Jane Foster). . Aaron should not have been allowed to write Thor for this long because now we’re getting to the point where his version of Odin (an alcoholic, tyrannical, petty, vindictive, abusive father and husband who’s rapidly fading in every sense of the word) has been going on long enough that I’m worried it will stick by the end of his run. I just hope I’m wrong.

@@rinakumari-ln2fc+ Either you're talking about a different comment or you can't read. I'm not sure which. But nothing you're saying has anything to do with this comment of mine you're responding to. Sure Thor was created to be greater than the Hulk but the rivalry between the 2 quickly became a fan favourite and that was capitaliswd on plenty throughout the years to make money - especially in the classic age. I'm not sure what you mean by the "actual creator" though. Stan Lee created Hulk as a character. He and Jack Kirby created pretty much all of the classic heroes and teams. It's pretty common knowledge. . Characters change all the time. Immortal Hulk is a great example. He's quite differenr than his classic version. He's actually intelligent for the most part, he has an excessive amount of personalities now that all give him different powers, power levels and levels of intelligence and his healing factor works completely differently now. He's less resistant to damage these days but he regenerates from practically anything now and thanks to being empowered by the the energy leaking out of The One Below All's dimension and the Green Door being open, he and other gamma mutates are capable of involuntary resurrection. . Thor is kinda in the same boat. He's Allfather now for one thing. He's had his phase of being Cosmic King Thor. He was able to fight freaking Knull at one point and didn't immediately die (Which is impressive considering Knull casually dominated Celestials and 1-shot the Sentry). He's got the Thorforce (althou he's still a bit of a novice with it for now) he's learned he can tap into his powers from Gaea (even if he had to "forget" them later due to him being too overpowered), he can summon the Bifrost and apparently has some kind of connection with the Phoenix Force as well. . Having said all that, as far as I'm aware, there's only been a single instance when Thor (as Allfather) has even encountered the Immortal Hulk and that was a very brief incident where other Avengers were involved, then the other Gamma Mutates got involved and there was no real battle between Hulk and Thor to speak of except the exchanging of like 2 blows before the whole situation got diffused. So I'm not really sure what you're talking about. . The only issue these days seems to be when Jason Aaron is writing Thor. He's literally stated directly that he doesn't care about continuity or fan opinion and just writes what he wants. He's had some great Thor stories in the past, but ever since Marvel made him kill off Jane Foster as Thor due to a consistent drop in sales, he's done a pretty fine job of turning Thor into "Thor Jobberson" (as you put it) every time he's allowed to write the character. He also did a number on Thor's whole background and a lot of other characters for that matter (like Odin - something this video is specifically talking about). He actively undermines other writer's developments with Thor and the entire Asgardian mythos is in shambles at the moment due to Aaron's extensive and retcons and overall butchering of the continuity. . That aside, I don't think I've ever once stated Thor is my favourite character. But even if he was my favourite character, who he does or does not defeat in battle has nothing to do with it. I like characters when they are written well. Their power level is kinda irrelevant. I've been around the internet long enough to recognise flaming and baiting when I see it. I'm just not sure why you'd bother or what you thought it would achieve. Trying to antagonize me by "talking trash" about a comic character is juvenile at best and frankly, I really don't have enough investment in a fictional superhero to be any more concerned about it than to feel a little bit of second hand embarrassed for you considering how immature that kind of behaviour is. It's a little pathetic.

Look, ima be real wit u. Your videos are great but your voice is way too light to voice Odin

I like this story because it's Thor becoming his own man... Again. I like seeing him not just being his father's son, but being his own man. I'd like to see him have his own son to raise someday. But Odin saying that he was jealous of Thor and that's why he was sent to Earth is ridiculous, that takes away from Thor's character.

Let's be honest. Aaron is not really a bad writer like yall made him to be. Aaron is writing a Thor who face challenges in life. Even gods must face their darkest days in life. Who remembers when Hercules was depowered for long? Who remember when Hulk was depowered for a shot period? Who remember when wolverine lost his healing factor and other powers? Those are challenges they face everyday in life. It's realistic if you ask me. Thor will get back his bearing in war of the realms. Soon, he'll reclaim is hammer at full power, so don't panic.

Jason has been writing Thor for the last few years and The writing is still mediocre. Bad enough he gave the hammer to Jane, but now this abusive nonsense with Odin. It is hard to stay patient wuth a writer who has not written a consistently good Thor is Fucking years!

It's okay to make a character struggle and weaken them for a time. It's not okay to retcon so much established history. Either Aaron's run is a complete retcon of Thor and the Asgardians or his run should be disregarded in the continuity. I'm for the latter as the retcons he's made are terrible in most cases.
