Friday is named after his mother(Frigga). Wednesday is named after Odin. The Marvel version of Thor is “based” on Norse Mythology but creator Stan Lee changed a few things here and there. Hang on. Am I the only one who finds it strange (or noticed, for that matter) that we skipped pretty much the entire second act of the movie in this review?? We jumped from Jane driving Thor to the crater straight to the Destroyer appearing on Earth! A lot of important stuff was straight up cut out! -The entirety of Thor's infiltration of the SHIELD base -Hawkeye's cameo -Thor discovering he's not worthy as well as his capture -Loki lying to Thor about Odin being dead and how he's not allowed back home -Selvig rescuing Thor from custody and trying to find out the truth about him -Thor and Jane's campfire where he tells her about the Nine Realms -Sif and the Warriors Three deciding to go against Loki and plotting with Heimdall to bring Thor back home -Coulson learning who Thor really is and that he's an ally, not an enemy Why was all this cut? These scenes were crucial to his character development. It was during this time that Thor's ego was knocked down several pegs and he finally started learning humility.

Kenneth Branagh is a highly acclaimed Shakespearean actor and director. He starred in and directed the Oscar nominated movie version of Hamlet from the late 90s. And has done countless other Shakespeare plays in his life. They intentionally wanted a Shakespearean feel to it, so he was the perfect director for this one. Get over the camera angles, already. It was also intentional. At this point they were trying to make very distinctive looks for each hero and their movies to set them apart from each other. They never bothered me in the least, until you started pointing out every single one. A couple comments would have sufficed. This is one of my favourite of the entire MCU because the acting and story are among the best, but now I’ll be thinking of this comment every time they do a Dutch angle. Delightful reaction, as usual! Kenneth, Branaugh is an actor first and a director second, and of course he is primarily a Shakespearean. This appears in pretty much everything he does, so it’s hardly surprising that both he and Hiddleston (another Shakespearean) should use Shakespeare as their touchpoints, nor is it surprising that his direction of the actors was better than his direction of the camera.😂 The origin story of Thor coming to Earth without powers as a punishment from Odin and needing to learn humility comes from the comics circa 1970, although in that version, he actually lost his memory for about 10 years, went to medical school and became a surgeon. In that version, Jane Foster was a nurse who loved “Dr. Blake” but couldn’t accept a relationship with Thor. Sif (in Norse mythology, Thor’s wife) is the eventual love interest in the comics.

The days were all named after Norse Gods. Tyr (God of Valor) was Tuesday, Odin's original name was Wodin (e.g. Wodin's day later became wednesday when they hit anglo-saxon shores), then of course thor's day. Freyja's day is later translated to Friday. I can't remember who monday was named after though.

At this stage, Marvel doesn't have as good a handle on what post-credit scenes should be. Iron Man's was a scene that could have happened between movies and Iron Man 2's was taken directly from a Thor scene. But Incredible Hulk and Thor's scenes are more speculative and don't actually make sense in the context of future movie events so they aren't actually canon. After this, Marvel is a little more organized and all the post-credit scenes are cannon.

The blue glowing box in the Thor movie is the Casket Of Ancient Winters. It is an ancient Norse relic from which the frost giants draw their powers or whatever. The blue cube in the post credit scene is a separate object that you will discover plenty more about very soon. The two objects have nothing to do with each other.

@s.c.sanchez16104 ай бұрын
@@Deathbird_Mitch There are 2 Hulk films. Ang Lee's Hulk starring Eric Bana, which is not MCU canon, and The Incredible Hulk starring Edward Norton which is very much in the MCU continuity. While it is true that The Incredible Hulk was originally intended to be a direct sequel to Ang Lee's Hulk (this is why Bruce Banner is already on the run & living in South America when the film begins), Marvel Studios felt it was better to treat the film as a reboot that would build upon the Avengers setup teased in the post credits of Iron Man. Having Robert Downey Jr. appear as Tony Stark in a pre-credit scene in The Incredible Hulk was intended to further the agenda of setting up a future crossover Avengers film, which was unprecedented at the time. While some may choose to ignore The Incredible Hulk, there are far too many callbacks to it in the MCU to say it is not canon.

Kenneth Branaugh was the director, as they thought there was a Shakespearean aspect to the story. But I never really thought of the canted angles being used so much, it's not his usual go-to. But, if you haven't, I recommend Branaugh's "Dead Again" for a view, a bit Hitchcockian.

11:37- That surprised, you know WTF look on your face, Shanelle, is PURELY GENUINE, and I don't blame you!!!! It was a clear indication, even to me that Loki isn't a true son of Odin- merely adopted him as his own. The God of Mischief himself happens to be the son of Laufey, who told Thor to 'run back home little princess'. YUP, Loki's a Frost Giant!!!!!🤯
@corumhayes81784 ай бұрын
What's not apparent on the first watch is how much Loki manipulates Thor. He agrees with Thor then uses reverse psychology to push Thor to go to Jotunheim and he does it with such ease that you can imagine he's probably done that all their lives.

Sir Kenneth Branagh is British and was knighted by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on November 9, 2012. He has a long history working on Shakespearean projects, onstage and onscreen. He has also won numerous awards for his works. If you want a suggestion of one of his Shakespearean movies, I suggest Henry V (1989). He adapted the screenplay, directed it, and starred in it.

It seems that Norse mythology isn't taught at school anymore. Thor, God of Thunder, is whom we get Thursday (Thor's day) from. From Odin (also known as Wodin) we get Wednesday. Loki is the Norse god of mischief. Shanelle might recall the academic suggesting that the mask in Jim Carrey's movie of the same name might be related to Loki.
