NO SPOILERS. If you're "in the red", you owe money. if you're "in the black", you have money. A ledger was a physical book where you kept track of your financials. Having "red in your ledger" means you owe debts to people- either real money, or in this case, symbolic.
@maja11577 ай бұрын
RED IN MY LEDGER: "Red ink" is business jargon describing a financial loss, withdrawal, or debt. When accountants made physical entries into a general ledger, red ink was used to show a negative number, and black ink was used to show a positive one. "Red in my ledger" is a debt. I want to "wipe it out", I want to pay the debt, be debt free.

This movie did so well on Steve Roger's character, as the "man out of time". Remember, he's just a guy, turned soldier, from 1940s Brooklyn. First, just the way he dresses. Plaid shirt with slacks. Refers to Black Widow as "ma'am". He meets Bruce Banner and has no interest in the Hulk. He just treats him like a person, and how he can help find the tesseract. His quips that "there is only one God, ma'am...", growing up in a time when basically everyone was a Christian (which is a surprising addition, given that the director is a super anti-religious atheist). He criticizes Tony for not following orders, showing his intuition to trust his superiors. He "understood that reference" to the old movie, The Wizard of Oz, from his time period. Telling Tony to "speak English" because he has no clue about technology, let alone modern tech. They didn't have to add much of these additions, but they did, which is nice.

I think they really did have to have those. Those details really humanize and highlight each character. They give them life and more dimension. That attention to the original Marvel characters is a big reason the early MCU is so good. They really help to adapt good comic stories to screen. Cap's character building is part of why he's my favorite in the MCU. He wasn't very interesting to me inn the comics but the way Cap was written and acted let the character shine for who he's supposed to be. Superhuman and still very human.

A couple things you missed: 1. The red in the ledger thing. Other people have explained it pretty well. The metaphor is used a lot because red=blood makes it a layered, visceral image. 2. When all the characters were fighting, there's a quick shot showing the scepter putting out some sort of magic static. You can't tell exactly what it is, but it's increasing the tension in the room. It also partly explains why Banner ends up with the scepter in his hand. 3. You were a bit dismissive when Black Widow used a gun against the Hulk. In point of fact, she didn't shoot him. She shot a pipe behind him, and the escaping steam distracted Hulk while she made an escape. 4. When Thor landed and went to pick up his hammer: he had just been duped by Loki and watched helplessly while his friend was murdered. He simply had a moment of doubt, wondering if he was still worthy.

About the element Tony invented in Iron Man II, I have a theory that the original idea was for that element to have been derived from the Tesseract, which his dad had studied. (Original, the MCU ended up going a different direction with things.) That would be a possible explanation why Loki's staff didn't work on Tony, since that element would have been in the thing on his chest.
@murrygondwana72607 ай бұрын
It would have made a lot more sense for Tony to have used his Dad's research to create an Arc Reactor that harnesses Tesseract's energy, much the same way as the Phase Two weapons they confiscated from Zola and Red Skull. Even the Bifrost in Asgard is powered this way.

A couple of things: When Loki tried to turn Tony in Stark Tower using the sceptre, it failed not because Tony was immune to its power. It was because Loki kept touching the sceptre to the mini arc reactor in Tony's chest, not to Tony's body, as he did with Hawkeye and Erik Selvig. Every time he touched the sceptre to the mini arc reactor, you can hear a little metal clink. Second, a lot of people are recommending that you watch "Agents of Shield". I think you would really enjoy it. It was executive produced by Joss Whedon, his brother Jeff, Jeff's wife Marissa Tancharoen, Jeff Loeb and others. Even though it ended its run in 2020, it still has a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. But, do not start it until after you have watched "Iron Man 3". The series starts after the events of "Iron Man 3". Episodes 1-7 line up with the release of "Iron Man 3". Episodes 8-16 line up with the release of "Thor: The Dark World" and episodes 17-22 line up with the release of "Captain America: The Winter Soldier".

Banner is a child abuse survivor with dissociative identity disorder. As a kid he watched his dad murder his mom. Damn right he's always angry. The hulk personality was created to be strong, and take all the beatings. He kept puny Banner safe when needed, and was locked away in his brain the rest of the time. The gamma radiation made the split physical as well as mental. The psychiatry of how children adapt to survive abuse is fascinating. They do an amazing job of staying alive through an unbearable life.

Shan, can I give you a bit of advice? As a very longtime Marvel fan since I came up in the 80's reading the comics, I can tell you this with absolute certainty: Don't get into trying to predict plot points of these films. You'll get proven wrong almost every time. Marvel is probably the most unpredictable movie universe there is. And that's part of the reason why we love it. Even longtime comicbook readers like myself couldn't predict a lot of what was going to happen, even though we read a lot of huge story arcs from the comics. There are things we can tell you that aren't spoilers....but even those might break your brain! You'll figure things out as you move forward, but the thing to take away from these movies the most is that they are in most cases .... just a simple good time. There's character depth, there's humor, there's very well put-together fight scenes and action choreography, but if you try to predict things and how it's going to go .... it limits you. These are films based on some very convoluted comic books where those stories are DOZENS OF LAYERS DEEP. I mean you can certainly try to predict where you think its going to go ... but you're gonna get proven wrong a TON! Also, with some of these films, you are definitely gonna need a box of tissues! Personally, I can't wait until you've seen all the Captain America films, because the plot twists in those films blew ALL our minds!!!! Welcome to the MCU.....and try to just sit back, react, and enjoy the ride .... because from here on out if you think you're in a regular predictable movie universe, boy are you in for some wonderful drama and turbulance! By the way, that wasn't Red Skull at the first post-credits scene.

Thor is so hesitant after being dropped from the Hellicarrier, not because he's hurt or unworthy, but he just had his brother try to kill him. That would shake me to my core as well. That's why he looks at the hammer before picking it up... remember Fury's question about what he's willing to do? Is he willing to take up arms against his brother? The brother that tried to kill him. It's complicated for subtext. As for the end, I won't spoil who it is, but that is not Red Skull. I don't know if their identity would even be a spoiler, because they know that a large part of their audience has read the source comic books from the late 80's. And I wouldn't be surprised if it's something you've picked up from pop culture anyway. Anyway, welcome to phase two! Love your videos and can't wait to watch you continue the journey!
