Honestly, I would have liked to see Captain America be the one to take up Thor's hammer in Avengers 2 and use it rather than the Vision. That would have made more sense to me (plus he budged it during that contest). Frankly, the Vision is a new life-form, an artificial intelligence, arguably an amoral machine; how can it be worthy? Whereas I think Cap is already worthy. I just don't think Marvel's writers are really doing all that much thinking when they put these films together. No snark: I really think they assemble them from concepts and visual 'hooks', with one or both eyes on the box office. Nobody seems concerned with any real internal logic in the storylines. Though I confess I'm thinking mainly of Thor 2, cobbled together by something like 6 or 7 writers. What a mess.

+aztekkthundergod I don't recall calling him a robot, and in any case being a robot and being sentient aren't necessarily mutually exclusive. Ultron's a robot, after all. But android, artificial lifeform, robot, the issue for me is the concept of being 'born' good (the Vision, apparently) or bad (Ultron). It's obviously tidier to take the view that the Vision arose fully moral and with the will to do good. Fine. However, guys, I do want to stress again how much more thought and knowledge and effort we are putting into all this (and your theories and suppositions are all really interesting) than I suspect the writers do. It was just cool for the Vision to pick up the hammer and hand it to Thor; it anointed him right off the bat as a force to be reckoned with, and it had that quirky Whedon humor. So that's what we got. The writers likely put no more thought into it than that. I'm not saying they're completely thoughtless: it was a nice touch in the film when, after the Vision wallops Ultron with the hammer, Thor calls it back to his hand. So we're shown that the Vision can pick it up and even strike with it, but the hammer is still Thor's and returns to him. Well, as always, fun discussion. I'm still unsure of this messianic Vision and where they'll go with him, or even with the new crop of Avengers they previewed for us at the end. It's an admirable nod to the changing roster from the comics, but I'll miss the original crew and chemistry, assuming that they're not worked back in somehow. You all may know more about what they've got planned for the third installment.

I understand why people think he is underpowered in the films but there is one thing people are missing. Look at the first Thor film and then compare it to the avengers, he is actually pretty fucking powerful in the first film. The reason he didn't look powerful in the avengers was because there were civilians around. When Thor is away from innocents like when he fought the frost giants he is very powerful. Another example is in AOU, look at how powerful Thor's hammer slam is once Sokovia had been evacuated at 9:05.

When I was a kid Thor was my second favourite comicbook. All in all he is probably the strongest superhero of all...he's immortal, basically invulnerable, can fly, is super-strong, can summon atmoshperic elements like lightning and storms and owns Mjolnir wich is magic and does it's things (indistructable, hyper-fast, can be summoned by Thor only) regardless of anything even time/space/dimensions.

Loki survived his encounter with the Hulk in the first Avenger film, but then Frigga dies after being stabbed by Algrim in TDW. +Arthur Mingo Yes, he does do the heavy lifting, and he should: Thor was always portrayed as the most powerful Avenger, bar none. But they've had to ratchet down his powers for the movies and I understand why. It's like Magneto in the Xmen films. You can't have a character so powerful that he can defeat any foe. It leaves nothing for the others to do and it's not good for a sense of credible conflict. As it is, Whedon tends to set up 'straw man' situations in which his Avengers basically always win (disposable aliens in the first, tinman Ultrons in the second). That might be fun for some, but it's better to think that they could actually lose. That's not possible when they pretty much either dominate or tie in every encounter. So reining in Thor's power is probably a good move, as long as they don't overdo it (which they've done a few times). And he definitely needs to say "For Odin!", but I'm not too keen on this idea of showing "Mjolnir's power" more, because I don't like the idea that some people have that Thor's power derives from his hammer, when in fact it just channels and focuses his own native abilities.

+VengefulBatz You guys are all wrong. In most of the scenes, Thor's power has been about where it should be. The only thing they never capture in any medium other than comics is his "godlike speed", because then there'd be no challenges for him. If you recall, he fought on par with the Hulk when fully enraged, and it is obvious he was holding back against Iron Man/Cap because it was just an argument not a life or death situation. He's always taking out 30 enemies at a time in the films, and his only weakness has always been mental. This is Thor before he got the Odin-force.

+Andrés Iniesta Depends.. as a character definatly! In manner of power, he pretty much was at that lvl from the very beginning. In Thor1 He never had any problem taking anyone as he could lash out with as much power as he wanted... I mean, he was basically beating the entire Frost giant army by himself (the others just taking down one here and there) and destroying several Km of ice with one hit (Ice at that cold can be as hard as steel, not to mention its thickness, it would be extremely durable.) In Thor 2 and Avengers we see him ajust to the fact that he has to be worthy of his own power to keep it, so he cant just go around beating the shit out of people because he can anymore. I mean, bringing forth a tornado like he did against the destroyer (Making kurse fly helplessly in the air) while bombaring him with lightning would be a much better cause than trying to clobber him down (although it works on most people becuse of his immense strength) but again, he have to ajust, becuse he doesnt yet know where the line goes. beside, during the whole Avengers movie (other hints of a tiny nosebleed after being hit by Hulk on the nose) he doesn´t even show signs of substaining any injuries, let alone be in any real trouble (every Avengers exept Thor had this moment were the chitauri overwhelmed them for a moment) so he didn´t have to use more power as it simply wasn´t necessary ;) and in AaU he is done ajusting as he has been fighting under the All-father´s new terms for some time, beside Ultrons drones are just lifless objects (although the AI in Ultron makes him a "living" creature) so beating them with power isn´t exaclu going to make him any less worthy. besides, destroying the city saved countless lives. But I still agree that AoU Thor does him the most justice, and is the version I like the most ^^

He demonstrates tremendous and impressive usage of his might and godly powers 3. He's treated not just as a heavy-hitter, but also an important and vital member of whatever team he's in (Lady Sif and the Warrior's Three for the former and the Avengers for the latter).

We look at Thor as if he is significantly nerfed, but the guy destroyed a friggin city. And pretty much everybody acknowledged that he is the powerhouse of the team alongside Hulk. He's basically a god to most people, a big factor opposing Ultron ("Even YOU can't stop that"), Iron Man knows (puts him to church to destroy Sokovia), Cap knows, and Defense Secretary Ross knows it. (Tell me, Captain, do you know where Banner and Thor are right now? If I had lost two 30-ton Nukes, wouldn't you be worried?").
