Very annoying how people keep saying: "505kg is in trouble!" when it's not even remotely close. Pulling 490kg isn't "Just 15kg" away from 505kg. Yes, in math it is. In the context of the sport, it's another massive mountain to climb. This isn't dragonballZ where you can keep on going forever as long as you're training without hitting biological limits. Hicks Pulling 450kg for a double is absolutely impressive. But that's nowhere NEAR 505kg. Remember Ivan? He got hyped up for years by clowns thinking he'd ever get it. And as expected, he never got it and he never will. Neither wil Hicks. I'm a believer when i see 490 go up with relative ease. Any struggle or any lower weight and it's too far off.

Look, i love Hicksy, and i do agree he is one of top 4 strongman deadlifters. But he is not near the 500+ mark yet. Thing is, remember when Thor did it?, he pretty much track marked his journey there and in January he was doing 455X2 raw with regular straps (strongman raw) and looke way more convincing than Hicks 450X2. Strictly about the 450X2, the last one was a touch and go and Hicks grind it at the end, I reckon he is about 470KG righ now, maybe a bit less but is hard to belive he gonna gain 35KG more and add it just in under two months, he defeintly gonna win the championship, but the All time record will remain. And well, about Thor, he is maybe now a bit more challengued but right from the form of the lift, the RPE, to Thor´s extremely good way of peaking he definetly remains as the top dog in strongman when comes about the deadlift, active deadlift.

For those that truly remember hafthors journey to 501, he was able to pull 1000lbs for 2 in a suit about 2 months before he pulled 501, and that 501 looked relatively easy. Just bc hicks is wearing a suit doesn’t discount the sheer magnitude of the lift. This is impressive and I’d say Hicks’ deadlift max with a suit is between 480 and 500 right now. Give him another month or 2 of training, and I truly believe he can do 505. Weirdly enough, I think hafthor will manage more than that in the same time.
@joebot9309

lol Hicks if all the stars are aligned would get 480kg someday and absolutely no more ever. If Hicks had it, he would have done it long ago lol or at least came close (like 480kg +). Hicks did not pull a double - he did a slight touch and go 2nd rep. You never see Thor do doubles like this.
@antoniocenteno1483

Thor hited that lift raw and did it 4 months before the 501 though, he was peaking for the Arnold's. Thor never pulled double over 1K in preparation for the AT. King of the deadlift is Benedikt Magnusson. He hit a 460kg deadlift over a decade ago without straps and made it look easy. Pretty sure if he tried a strongman deadlift back then before his injuries he could of done 500kg long time ago. Either way that lift is still more impressive, especially with the ease he did it. A lot will say Eddie because 500kg was a massive milestone, but Benedikt is the goat. Asko Karu can easily become the goat if he recovers fully from his injuries. He prob had a 525kg deadlift or so before he got injured yet noone talks about his when he literally deadlifted 482kg stiff bar beltless deadlift. Hard to comprehend that level of strength. Its absurd and way way more impressive than the 500kg in a suit with a belt on a deadlift bar. Anyone that deadlifts 700lbs plus pounds like I do could easily tell you that, yet he gets slept on. For reference that prob equates to a 550-560kg deadlift but I doubt it would transfer that much to him. I have no doubt he would of gotten 505 possibly for a double pre injury tbh..
