Actually, now that you've reminded me about that long Jurgens run, there's a lot of similarities that have popped into mind with Aaron's run recently (not in quality - more some specifics): - Thor lost his left arm - old king Thor eventually lost an eye - Thor became unworthy of Mjolnir for a time - a new villain Desak was a killer of gods (vs. butcher of gods), with similar-ish origin from a motive perspective (bad experience making sacrifices to gods for nothing) - the villainous brother of the king of Asgard became the chief of security (Loki for Thor in Jurgens' story, Cul for Odin in Aaron's) - Thor was put through trials by another pantheon of gods (3 tests from the Council of Godheads in Jurgens' story, where he failed the 3rd test - and I believe some trials with the Shi'ar deities in Aaron's) - a female Thor was introduced; Tarene was even called Thor-Girl when she first appeared - and of course Thor became All-Father there's probably more, but that's what I can recall now. I forgot about the part where All-Father Thor realized the errors of his ways and when he undid this future, he bestowed the knowledge to younger Thor so as to not make the same mistake. You'd think he'd have remembered that and not been unworthy as of late.

Negative, in the forward of an issue it opens with a designated alternate timeline. I forget if it was the issue after Asgard was destroyed or King Thor loses his arm, but it's there. However, IIRC, this alternate timeline King Thor does go back in time to the main timeline's (616) King Thor, prior to the timelines diverging, and gives him the memories of this event.

It's a very powerful version of Loki, the sword was probably not just a random weapon in his hands. And Baldur is vulnerable to mistletoe, so either Loki's magic made the sword have the same properties as a mistletoe, or his magic could straight up surpass Baldur's invulnerability or it's just a huge plothole.
