This is a movie reaction to my first time watching Thor: Ragnarok, released in 2017 and directed by Taika Waititi. This film is certainly the most humorous and "out there" Thor movie that we've seen so far in the MCU. So many new fun characters and the VILLAIN! I love Hela so much. As always, Thor and Loki were fantastic and the Hulk/Banner being in this film was a huge surprise. Thanks for joining me during my first time through the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to stick around to the end of this video for my full thoughts and review. Thanks so much for watching!

Skurge is a classic recurring Thor villain of the "worthy opponent" variety in the comics, both having a great deal of respect for each other. This version was a pretty major departure, but still managed to keep Skurge's final act of heroism EXTREMELY close to the original version

This is my favorite of the Thor movies! I totally agree with the over used humor in the film. Your reaction seeing Hulk as the Champion, was great. Glad you nobody spoiled it for you. So, about Thor's password on the Quinjet... Back in the first Avengers movie, Thor, Nat, Cap, Bruce, and Fury are having a discussion about Loki. Tony and Coleson finish their conversation. Tony then walks past Thor and says, "No hard feelings Point Break, you have a mean swing!" Point Break is the name Tony Stark gave Thor in the first Avengers film because of his resemblance to Patrick Swayze in the 1991 film, Point Break. Glad you are enjoying your MCU journey, your reactions are awesome! Looking forward to the next one!

I believe Hemsworth had come out after Thor 2 saying something along the lines of him not really enjoying the Shakespearean depiction of the character from the first two movies, so the changes here were to help keep him happy and to mix things up from The Dark World (which was commonly thought of as the worst MCU movie at the time). This should explain why this movie feels so different to the other two. Great work as always. I never fail to enjoy these reactions. Can't wait for the next few 😈

So, this is why I LOVE people reacting to the MCU movies after they have come out by quite a bit. EVERYONE knew Hulk was going to be in this movie because he was in the promo material for it. A lot of the trailers had Thor squaring off against Hulk in the arena on Sakar. So it wasn't a huge surprise to anyone when Thor and Hulk faced off. But for others, watching this way after it came out, Hulk is a huge surprise to people :)

This is my favorite portrayal of Heimdall, he has many of moments to shine and is just a badass. The new Humor of Himbo Thor is, for better or worse, a direct result of Chris Hemsworth flexing his movie production muscles. The goofiness is just his taste. Some people feel ambushed by the change in tone, but I love it. To me, it's authentic. As we say goodbye to Odin, we say hello to the real Thor. For me, this really is peak Thor. I won't lie, it took me stepping away from it and coming back to it to really click with the movie, but I'm really glad that I did. The opening was just so jarring compared to the other appearances of Thor. Still, once I got a feel for it, it really became my favorite Thor movie thus far. I also kind of can't help but laugh that Korg and Meek are... basically one big rock-paper-scissors joke. Korg is a rock who was defeated by paper (not printing out enough pamphlets), and who stepped on Meek, who... is basically scissors. But, honestly, more than anything, I love what this movie meant for Loki's arc. Thor was right... he's a trickster, but he has it in him to be so much more than that. Frigga's death started that change for him, and when Odin passed, and told both of them that he was proud of them... you can see how much that hit home for him. Thor and Loki are best when they are acting as brothers... because they are _so_ good in that role. Loki is one of my MCU favorites, right up there with Cap and Rocket. 🤘😈

They sing no songs in Hel, nor do they celebrate heroes, for silent is that dismal realm and cheerless. But the story of the Gjallerbru and the God who defended it is whispered across the nine worlds. And when a new arrival asks about the one to whom even Hela bows her head, the answer is always the same. “He stood alone at Gjallerbru. " And that answer is enough. Skurge the executioner had one of the most memorable and meaningful redemptive deaths in Marvel, and the movies homage to his death here was incredible.

I think is the best of the Thor movies. Taika is a great director that brought a fresh take on Thor's character in this movie. I think the Thor movie after this suffered from having him direct AND write the movie; almost exactly like the 2 recent Wonder Woman movies from DC. Until very recently, Marvel studios did not have the rights to make a Hulk movie with him as the titular character - The Incredible Hulk was made by Universal in association with Marvel and they were not able to come to terms on making another Hulk film. Because of that, much of the Hulk's arc is told in the Avengers movies and in Ragnarok.

I go back and forth on this one. First time through, the hype was a problem. The second time through, I liked it quite a bit more. This third time through, I could tell right from the beginning that the humor was going to pay like Guardians to you and thus I also came down on it a bit. I really love Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Taika Waititi as Korg, and the addition of Hulk (your reaction to that reveal was delightful, and of course it was in all the trailers and marketing, so most people didn't get to be caught by surprise), but I do think this particular mode of silliness, where it's sort of self-aware, is a type of humor that's very popular these days and this movie suffers from the jokes being a bit predictable. I love the earnestness of the first Thor and the Thor/Jane relationship, not to mention the ridiculously Shakespearean drama of it. Speaking of that Hulk reveal, if I'm remembering correctly, Hemsworth was doing Make-a-Wish visits and one of the kids that he spoke to suggested the line "He's a friend from work!" There was also a great deal of criticism about, well, all of Age of Ultron, but one of the many targets was the "sun's going down" stuff, which is why they're actually making fun of it by repeatedly doing it here. You may have recorded it before Ragnarok first, but Cassie just reacted to Point Break, which is a classic '90s action movie about surfers. One of the two leads looks something like Thor, before his hair gets cut. The year before this one, Waititi made what I think is his best film, the movie The Hunt For the Wilderpeople, starring Sam Neill (who you appeared to recognize as the Odin in the play, making this a Jurassic Park reunion even though he and Jeff Goldblum don't share any scenes). It also features Rachel House in a key supporting role, the same woman who plays The Grandmaster's deadpan assistant here. Highly recommend it. Replaying the credits scene from Doctor Strange in its entirety is an extension of that particular tag being one of the few that wasn't uniquely shot for the movie it appears in to set up another movie, but rather, a clip simply lifted wholesale out of that later film and dropped in the earlier one. My main thought at this point is that it's just wild that you're already this far into the MCU journey. Obviously, not going to spoil anything, but knowing what follows the first post-credits scene here, it's like, jeez...time flies. 😈

@@kaiielleou will be well caught up by the end of the year. And you should get used to some of the humor. Seth Rogan recently said that it’s hard to make comedies these days because they are directly in competition with marvel, which objectively speaking, makes comedy movies. Personally I don’t have the same feeling towards Guardians of the Galaxy that you do. These movies have the uncanny ability to make you laugh one minute and bawl your eyes out the next. There isn’t one Marvel movie that will hit you in the feels like the two guardians movies(well, almost none). No other relationship they’ve portrayed in another movie has the same amount of emotion as what James Gunn did with those. Especially in 2. Forget Quill’s relationship with Yondu, one of my favorite scenes is when Drax and Mantis are sitting on the steps and Drax muses about his daughter and taking her to see the fountains, and mantis touches him to feel what he’s feeling and she weeps so deeply and looks out on the scenery. I mean wtf, nothing else comes close to the emotion in those movies. Same in this one with Thor and Loki with Odin, and Thor and Loki’s heart to heart in the elevator. I love all the marvel movies but the humor is just a part of it. No one cracks more jokes than Tony, why does no one gripe about that?

It has more drama, so may like it more than this one, but not much more. For me, Guardians, Deadpool and this Movie are the absolute best of the Marvel universe. Everyone has different taste. A rainbow of sensibilities.

You’re really not here for the jokes, huh!😁 When I saw this in the theater I laughed the entire time, but as I was leaving I thought to myself, “I don’t know about that!”. Disconnected from the rest of the previous installments of the MCU, this movie is great. As a part of the MCU, eeeehh? Thor is a warrior, a king and a god. He is not a joke. This movie transformed him into a goofball. A lot of people love it, me personally I prefer the serious Norse God of phase one. I love comedy, but not when it turns our warrior/king/god into a clown.

19:20 - "By Odin's beard, you shall not cut my hair!" So...in the early days of Marvel comics in the 60's, Stan Lee wrote the dialogue for all of those classic Marvel characters, including Thor's "Shakespearean" style of speaking. "By Odin's beard" was a very typical Stan Lee type thing for Thor to say, and here we get Thor spouting that dialogue right back at Stan Lee himself. A nice touch!

😈Glad you enjoyed Thor Ragnarok! I'm kinda with you though. The first Thor movie holds a special place in my heart for some reason. I like the humor of Ragnarok but again just like you it was a little heavy for me. Korg and Miek were hilarious 😅 I'm not sure who my favorite character was though. RIP to Ray Stevenson! If you ever want to take a Marvel detour. You can always check out Punisher: Warzone where he (Ray Stevenson) plays the Punisher. it is an excellent Non-MCU stand alone Marvel movie.

The scene with Dr. Strange is one of my favorites in the entire MCU. I LOVED the arena scene where Thor fights Hulk, and loved everything about the Valkyrie. In the beginning where she says they'll have to go through her to get him, ok "I'll go through you," after drunkenly falling off the ramp of her ship, she just annihilates everyone. Her telling Banner that she hopes he's tougher than he looks before ejecting him and him jumping out of the ship - then plopping onto the bridge - THEN the Hulk dragging Fenris to a halt while the Valkyrie looks on in surprise, that's all GOLD! Jeff Goldbloom was born to play the Grandmaster and I'm sure he did have a lot of fun with it. I'm actually not a huge fan of Hella. I don't know, too dark, maybe. Heimdall is always great and he really got to shine in this one. Skurge was annoying, IMO. Slightly humorous in places, yes, but in a movie that's pushing the line of too much humor. 😈

😈 I don't mind the extra humor, because I do think that Thor works best as a funny character, especially in a solo movie. But I hear you. Also, I agree with the use of "Immigrant Song" feeling out of place. The entrance is epic, but the song makes me like it less than some others because of that. As always, thanks a bunch for the premiere and the reactions in general. They're always a treat to watch, and you're one of the only people for whom I stay to hear their closing remarks, because you make them succinct and to the point. I'll be looking forward to your reaction to Black Panther next! I was not a fan of that movie, but I am very much in the minority on that one. Hopefully you enjoy it a lot!

When I first saw this one it was easily my favorite Thor and one of my top MCU movies. On rewatches however it's dropped in my personal tier list and I have feelings similar to yours on it. I still enjoy it but now the pacing feels rough. The writing and jokes have lost their "luster" so the timing feels pretty awkward when everything stops for them, while at other times events are moving a bit too fast. Cate Blanchett was awesome as Hela and I wish we had more time with her. And it's funny because on my first watch I thought the Hela storyline was very slow and interrupted the pacing. Now I feel everything on Sakar(?) needs to slow down and take a moment to let us enjoy it lol. Also Thor's journey to himbo status in this movie was fine and funny imo, but a little quick of a transition. Some interactions with him and his (quickly cast aside) friends would have been appreciated and would have been a chance for them to remark on how Earth is "rubbing off" on him or similar. Anyways, glad you had a mostly good time and this was a fun reaction. Looking forward to seeing you get through the next couple! 🤘

I liked this movie a lot, but I appreciate the humor of this and Guardians more than you do, which is totally fair. Although I do agree that Marvel does have this habit of breaking into serious moments with jokes when sometimes the seriousness should stay for better impact. I put this movie in my top 5 (or maybe just below them) for the story and humor, but also because I love Loki, Hulk had a nice bit of screen time after not seeing him for a while, and the introduction of Korg and Meik, who I got a kick out of. Plus, I have to admit, giant Surtur destroying Asgard was a very cool visual. 😈

Yep, would say out of all the MCU movies, Thor movies are probably the most star studded for the most part. I mean, they all are, but Thor movies especially. (And Spiderman maybe I guess, but for sure between those two franchises within the MCU). Like Idris Elba, Anthony Hopkins, Jeff Goldblum and Cate Blanchette are SIDE characters basically in these movies, not to mention Matt Damon and Sam Neil as cameo characters in for only like 1 or 2 minutes, and those are some very top billed actors. Anyways, was hoping you liked this one! Wasn't too sure as it has some Guardians of Galaxy in it for sure, but I feel like the story is pretty awesome along with the music and acting.

Ragnarok is the end of time or the end of asgard in Nordic or Germanic Mythology (Mostly the same) but it's very different than the mcu version of course. Oversimplified: Loki and his children (Hel the goddess of the dead, a giant wolf named Fenrir and a giant snake also known as the Midgardsnake named Jörmundgandr) with some ice and fire giants like Surtur that were locked away by the gods against the asgardian gods like Thor and Odin. In the end.. Everything is dead and nothing is there anymore and a new age starts. Basically a reset of everything with new gods and generations. Loki was actually a good guy but with some gray points.. He often did some chaotic things.. He also was locked away and tortured by the gods.. I think after they found out he had some demonic children with a giant named Angrboda. The wolf was taken in by the gods and was growing and growing just like the snake that was thrown into the ocean. Hel was given the right to rule over the dead by Odin because she had some connections with death.. Probably because her face was half skeleton. Loki broke out and Ragnarok was coming.. Chaos over Midgard and everything.

While I enjoy the movie for various reason, I feel like I'm in a minority that doesn't appreciate all of the humor that was added. It took a fairly mature and serious character and made him a dumb goofball. Humor is good for relieving tension in a scene but when humor is dumped onto every scene it undercuts those tension filled moments.

Meanwhile I've watched The Dark World at least 5 times. The humor is really jarring and mistimed and takes me completely out of the movie every time.
