@@Cod4comedian Not really, since the Loki that survived was from a different timeline, he's technically a different Loki. The one from the main timeline that gave his life had went through more strife with Thor, he'd grown, experienced the loss of his mother, faced the Dark Elves (to a smaller extent) with Thor, and went through the entire Ragnarok storyline. He experienced losing his father as well, and chose to protect his brother and their people by standing up against their sister, and gave his life for Thor. That Loki's sacrifice did matter, and changed Thor as well. The Loki that escaped is right after what he did in New York, he hasn't lost as much yet in that timeline, and is more ruthless and defensive.

See, I love Thor's little speech here. It shows how far he himself has come as a character. He's smarter, wiser, more contrite. Sure he still has that trademark confidence that borders on arrogance, but he's still a more rounded character with his flaws and weaknesses, as we see in Infinity War and Endgame. But what I also love is how his attitude towards his brother has shifted. He's given up trying to help him be a better person, as he wanted to do for so long. He now accepts his brothers choice to the god of mischief and is happy to part ways. And all he does is give his brother a simple choice. Either change your ways or we are done. And Loki perhaps finally sees that if he does stay the same, he'll lose what little family/friends he has. And it works, because Loki not only helps save his people on Asgard by fighting Hela, but he then tries to take on Thanos and dies in the cause of what is just and right. Fair play, can't ask for a better ending than that.

Even knowing they werent blood, Thor thought honestly of Loki as his brother, both enough to love and hate. Hate Loki goes to great lengths to either defeat, kill or embarrass Thor, but cares that he mourned, did put his anger to the side to work with AND do his best to show Loki while he is a good of mischief, he is capabile of being what thor sees in him. A good trickster that loves and would do what he can to ensure Asgard's survival.

Thor was at a very low point there, and if Loki had performed an open betrayal like he attempted here, Thor may well have tried to kill him to be done with it once and for all.
