Kyle talks about his experience with thoracic outlet syndrome. In college, his thoracic outlet symptoms became so bad that he couldn't even sit comfortably in class. He had numbness and tingling and was unable to live a normal life. Multiple TOS specialists were unable to help, and he was convinced he needed surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome...

The Shoulder Fix helped me with a labral tear a couple years ago. Was told I needed surgery too. The ortho’s only have two tools in the toolkit: anti inflammatories and the knife. They mean well but the fact that there is a specialist for TOS is telling. I’m a competitive bodybuilder and with the shoulder fix program was able to help me get back to lifting and I’m now hitting PRs overhead pressing 50s! Oh and I’m also 50 years old. This is one of the best channels imo. Thank you for continuing to share your knowledge. 🙏🏻

Hello! I was a hair stylist for 20+ years and am dealing with these same symptoms unfortunately, I am just starting this journey and am in the Austin area, I was wanting to know which dr did you see for the tests to figure out your specific TOS and did the blood flow testing- (if you don’t mind?) I am also not going to opt for surgery but want to make sure there are no clots or other obstacles before I start Matt's program. I would so appreciate it 🙏🏼

@@kittykumari firstly, the biggest thing is I do not have cervical ribs. Next, after my milk regulated it got somewhat better, but even more so after I was done breast feeding. Corrective exercise using correct movement and individualized workouts helped a lot. I stopped stretching because I turned out to be hyper mobile after baby and stretching actually makes my symptoms worse. I do mainly strengthening exercises and mobilization exercise. Hi Kyle, I hope your're doing well! You've got another vTOS/nTOS friend right here! In December 2024 they discovered a blood clut in my right arm (right underneath my collarbone) and when doing a CT-scan 3 months later, they diagnosed the TOS. Currently, I'm taking blood thinners for 3 more months (6 in total) and undergoing a few more tests to see if surgery is necessary or if I can 'live' with no surgery and no blood thinners. It is quite a risk because I could get a DVT on the other side once I'm off the blood thinners. But I'm being followed up. It's scary and the thought of living with this while not being able to swim, boulder or surf anymore (my passions) is weighing on me a lot. You're story is encouraging, thank you so much for sharing. I wish you both all the best!

For anyone struggling i found that dips with a resistance band and trap shrugs with a shouldet in a more internal position really focusing on the eccentric for pec minor and traps helps relieve some pain. Just from my own experience. Surgery is not a bad option, and there is no reason you shouldn’t see a specialist while doing PT. I went through two PT practices that both told me after six weeks there was nothing more they could do. If I hadn’t found a specialist I might have wound up with someone doing their first TOS surgery as it is not something 99% of vascular surgeons perform unless it’s an emergency situation like a vehicle accident or your hand turning blue.

I had very similar symptoms. It started as neck pain when riding my bike, then got worse for about a year until it was nearly a constant pain in the neck and numbness in one muscle in my fore-arm. One day i tried to do a chin-up in the park and noticed that i could not even start to lift myself. So i installed rings in my house and started to do assisted chinups (starting with my feet touching the ground until i could get started.) Almost immediately, i could feel popping in my shoulder at times, like when moving my arms around in bed. After a few months, able to do one pull up, the problem was about half fixed -- half the time i could not feel it. I do chin ups every morning. Six months later, i cam do two un-assisted pull ups on the rings, and the problem is almost totally gone.

Ive been through the same experience, and still currently dealing with it. Ive been to several specialists for years, and none of them have a proper solution. Its maddening to spend time and money, only to go in circles. Sure, they’ll hear you out about your issues, but only for the sake of issuing prescriptions. Physical therapists will just run you through stretches.
@purifierphoenixthemecca2074
@purifierphoenixthemecca2074 Жыл бұрын
stretches don't work, they actually releasing tension that makes it somewhat bearable, overtime stretching makes things worse. you have to usually strengthen the other side for the side you would've of stretched to release naturally. Look into to postural restoration institute and find a pcr therapist, make sure they work with a dentist and a eye specialist, your eye sight and imbalance in bite will keep you stuck in an unbalanced postition causing improper muscle activation where one muscle is pulling harder than the other causing your bones to shift ever so slightly in unfavorable positions. Please don't do any excercises until you see one, I made that mistake, even though the exercises look easy enough, alot more technique goes into it than one would ever imagine because most are not aware how there body is compensating for any injuries throughout there life time.

Really interesting to hear Kyle's story, thank you ⭐️ I have aTOS and nTOS. Due to meet with a surgeon in a few weeks to discuss options. Having lived with it undiagnosed for 5 years, the impact to my health, stamina & overall ability has been immense. I had to give up work & a social life. I barely leave the house now for fear of triggering aTOS flare ups. I've been unable thus far to prevent limb shaking TIAs, as a result of pressure on my subclavian artery. I've had 12 in total since 2019, which are becoming worryingly more frequent. These were undiagnosed until recently. Hoping & praying that I can get a surgery date soon. 🙏 I feel like I'm in a race against time now, to get this fixed before it does real damage in the form of TIA, or stroke. Exercises help to relieve pressure on my subclavian artery, yet it takes just one thoughtless wrong move to put me back to square 1. If I could have surgery tomorrow, I would. Nothing else has worked for me. Trying to stay positive... 🙃🤞

I've had migraines since 10 years old, had countless scans which left doctors puzzled. 29 now with shoulders, neck pain and migraines at least 5 times a week. Doctors scanned my body and noticed I have thoracic outlet syndrome, been to 8 weeks of physio which didn't help but learnt some exercises from them, starting advanced physio soon so hopefully that helps. What does help me is exercising with weights etc but the day after I'm in agony so it's a win lose situation. Trying to stay off medication but majority of the time it's to painful so I give in, definitely don't want an operation because I've read to many people are in agony afterwards with no benefits. It's funny because originally I thought my spine was abnormal or something so I spent countless on neck and spine pillows, a better mattress, sleeping on my back, exercising machines, yoga equipment.. of course none of it worked so ended up in a depressed state, really didn't know what to do 🤣 still don't to be honest.

Could it still be TOS if the tingling is more located around the traps, pecs and rhomboids? Or is it more likely to be some other type of nerv entrapment? It still tingles a bit down the arm also, but it's more so higher up. I also have like some dull pain around the lateal upper tip of my scapula, that I can alleviate in the short term by pushing down on the top of the scapula with the other hand. But the pain would come back after a few minutes especially while sitting. I can't sleep on either side or the lateral upper aspect around the scapula will start hurting, and all the muscles around will seize up. I have to sleep on my back to not get this, All this is very new to me. I woke up a few weeks ago with a sharp pain in my rhomboid area. I managed to sort that out with some self administerd trigger point massage and dynamic stretches (butcher block etc) and some excersises to activate the rhombs, lower traps and serratus. While doing this I also noticed some tingling in the rhomboids and upper traps. This I found I could deal with by massaging my neck and doing some neck retractions and extensions. And also some decompressions with a towel pulling my head straight up from my neck. I think I had some sort of bulging disc in the lower part of my cervical spine, because I found a really tender spot there and it felt like the spine was bulging out a bit. But all that went away a couple of days ago. But now I'm stuck with the things I described in the 1:st paragaraph. I also seems to have developed some sort of impingement in the shoulder, which I didn't have before. I can sometimes get rid of the impingement by putting the arm behind my back and pulling it downwards with the other hand. I think that's also some sort of test for rotator cuff tear (which in my case would be negative). The whole thing is pretty weird to me. But I have been getting better and better ever since I got into this mess like 2-3 weeks ago. I haven't gone to a physio or anything yet, because it seems like the symptoms have been moving around, and I would probably end up doing unneccessary stuff and going to a lot of treatments that would end up not doing much. Maybe I'll go see someone unless I can get this last bit sorted within a week or so. But I'm probably more inclined to try your program if you think what I'm stck with in the aftermath of whatever happened could be TOS.

I'm 26 and I 100% support Kyle's testimony, I've had a ton of issues pretty much since college (and some even longer), including TOS and various post-injury maladaptations. Most of them are gone now, in large part thanks to the information from the channel and blog (and some other sources, free and paid) combined with *consistency* (which was by far the hardest part for me) and improving the conscious aspect of my proprioception. PS Don't give up if you feel like you've hit a wall, sometimes one discovers new issues after fixing another, it's rare to develop only one lifestyle-induced condition.

Had my 1st rib resected and and it was absolutely not worth it. Post op was the worst pain of my life and the problem is bilateral now. Swollen hands, numb arms. Would love to see exercises you recommend.

I had the same..1st rub resection 20 years ago..did nothing and have it bilaterally. Been told I have to live with the pain for the rest of my life and have pain management. My pain management consists of being prescribed pain meds. I'm lucky if I get 2 hours sleep a night. TOS is horrendous and disabling.

I've had this since I was a little kid and now as adult I get the whole pain from my fingers to my neck. If I hold my arms up for a few seconds I lose circulation in my arms/hands. On top of this my shoulders like to dislocated when I'm sleeping. I find its worse when I know my shoulders are acting up. Plus a back injury. Physical therapy didn't do anything except help with my scoliosis and how uneven my shoulders are.

I've had TOS for 30 years. Had a first Rob resection where they removed a rib but it was unsuccessful in that there was no relief. They didn't mention removing other parts like yours and I was never offered a follow up. I tried some physio for a few months but struggled with the cost of it but nothing worked so I've been on pain meds ever since. An anesthetist at a pain clinic told me I'd have to accept living with pain for the rest of my life. I get electric shocks just typing this..pain is horrendous. I wish I could find a solution to be pain free. What can I do if I've had this for 30 years???

You're not alone. The problem is that most clinicians are 30 years behind the science. I'd recommend that you find someone who takes the so-called bio-psycho-social pain model seriously. Sadly, many clinicians and Western culture have an outdated understanding of pain. Chronic pain is not a simple as "Your thingy is damaged. Do this exercise / Get surgery = pain-free." Try googling "biomedical pain perspective vs. biopsychosocial pain model". Another good place to start in your case would be this article: "Many Orthopedic Surgeries Don’t Work Better Than Placebo" I'll gladly help answer any questions you might have. I'm not a doctor or physio, but I used work as a personal trainer, taking courses in modern pain science/rehab. I now work professionally with patient communication.

Hello, I am currently watching this video as I have been diagnosed with TOS. I have a few questions. Because of TOS on my left side I have since March 2022 had a blood clot-DVT form in my left subclavian vein. I am on blood thinners for this to prevent further complications of it moving or getting further blood clots caused from TOS. Secondly my aurnt has had the surgery on the right side as she also has TOS she has had an extra rib and first rib removed and is waiting to have the other side done as she has an extra rib on the left side to causing TOS leading tk a risk of possible DVT. After many hospital visits and scans, tests I am now also waiting for surgery to remove my first rib on the left side to make space and prevent any further blood clots. I am so scared to even move my left arm above my head as its stops circulation. I have had a swollen arm since march and discolouration. I also get numbness, constant aching, pain and tingling. I am back at work now and work as a chef however work really knocks it out of me and my arm is so fatigued after my shirft I can't even think about doing any health related exercises, I used to love swimming, dancing and yoga. Do you think the shoulder program would be suitable for me as I have the DVT caused by TOS or in my case is surgery to only option unless I stay on blood thinners forever? Any advice would be amazing! Kindest regards, Heidi.

Something else to consider about the surgery besides the historically poor success rate - there are complications. Not the norm of course, but there are people all over youtube and reddit that are now on permanent disability after having the surgery. Check the comments also under some of these surgeons that haven't had them deactivated - not promising at all!

You never answer questions regarding Venous TOS. Many people I see here ask yet you have no answer on if this routine is just pertaining to Neurogenic Tos. So let me try and ask.. would this help anyone with VenousTOS cause right now it all sounds like snake oil to get people to spend on your classes.

its a lot more variable with vtos and atos from what I've seen, those can be a lot more dangerous (cus ur cutting off blood supply), compared to just nerve stuff. I would say if u have atos or vtos, go to the doctor. If you have ntos, get the program and stick to it

@@GigaChad-em9qw Unsure which Kyle did. I have gone for the thoracic outlet one. It comes bundled with the Shoulder 3.0 program as well which I did not realise. So far it has been nothing but fantastic. I have have tos pretty bad for about 2 years now and the last week has been the best I have been in quite a while. It comes with a morning and lunchtime 15minute exercise and stretch. (For me I have to stretch very lightly, if not it makes the tos worse. But light has been helping!) There is a twice ~ three time a week strengthening program as well. Once you get slightly better you go full time into the shoulder 3.0 program. With some guidance of how to transfer between. If you have a knowledge of general gyming / exercises I would recommend highly so far. (Only been 8days though)
