I just ordered this game for the Ps2 and it´s cool to know that it doesn´t suck, thanks for the review.

Would you consider re-reviewing this game considering Yakuza Kiwami exists now? It's been remade with Japanese VO and the Yakuza 0 battle system. It improves quite a bit on the problems you say here, which is quite good. The same could be said of Yakuza 2 since Yakuza Kiwami 2 is also out, which is made on the Dragon Engine; the same one from Yakuza 6. And there's also Hokuto ga Gotoku, or Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise, which is FotNS with Yakuza gameplay.

Are you playing a PAL version? Mind, Body and Spirit is what we got in America. Never seen Shin, Gi and Tai

I started playing the series with 0 on Jan 20th and I am probably going to be finishing 4 today. I agree, this series is very addicting and outside of some flaws here or there, I am glad to have finally jumped into it.

Streets of Rage 2 goes with basically everything. It's such a natural fit with Yakuza.

I loved this game. My only complaint was that there were way too many random battles, it got really repetitive. But the story is so good it kept me going.

If you compare the first yakuza to the latest one yakuza zero its a whole world between them.

If only they did the DMC4 thing of running after walking a certain amount of distance in the same general direction. Walking in yakuza 2 feels so slow

Yakuza is a series that most people don't tend to explain why it's good. Or even explain what it is. It has beat em up combat, but the combat isn't the main reason why you play this. They haven't really improved on the combat in the series. Even Yakuza Zero has improved the combat slightly. Does say something when the 7th main line game has turn based combat Main reason why you would play the Yakuza series are the stories. Rather it be the serious main story or the goofy side mission's stories. You can get lost in the side stories that you some times forget to do the main story. Also exploring. Since the world's you are in are smaller then most open worlds, you learn where to go and what areas are where. Sure at first, you would rely on the mini map. But take a couple of hours and you will only use the mini map to know which buildings you can go in, instead of relying it for exploration. Sure, the ps2 games does need you to rely on the mini map due to the games being based on fixed camera angles. But later games have fully controllable cameras. So exploration is better after the ps2 era. This is coming from someone who played Yakuza Kiwami, Yakuza Kiwami 2 Demo, now playing Yakuza 2

I would love if sega released the original with the original dub but english text. Sure there's the remake, but that suffers from having so much added busy work. Both versions are just as good as each other. But english players don't get the original dub with english text. I'm suprised there isn't a fan translation of the original game

Nice review, if you're hankering for some more steamy beat-em up action on the PS2 check out God Hand and The Warriors. Both are more fun than Yakuza in my opinion
@thorhighheels9 жыл бұрын
+John Smithy I've been meaning to check out both for a long time actually. So I'll definitely give 'em a try sooner or later.
@marko62199 жыл бұрын
+ThorHighHeels The Warriors is the only game based on a movie I can think of which is better than the movie it's based on ( definitely watch the movie too it's a classic) and it was made by Rockstar so lots of violence and swearing in that one. God Hand is challenging and unlike anything else it should not be missed. I forgot to mention another great one Shadow of Rome. Don't miss out on these!
@thorhighheels9 жыл бұрын
+John Smithy I like the movie a lot. So that, and the fact that it was made by Rockstar in their prime, really made we want to pick it up all those years ago. I just never did. As for God Hand, I've been thinking about playing it for quite some time, as the story and characters look fucking insane. Though I have to admit it seems a bit intimidating considering I'm not incredibly well versed with action games like it. Not really playing the game mind you, but more so the idea of reviewing it, and not pulling an IGN.
@marko62199 жыл бұрын
+ThorHighHeels I can guarantee that if you played God Hand you would be eager to review it and if you're a Dmc fan you would love this game even more than Devil May Cry ,If you could handle playing Dmc then the difficulty really shouldn't be a problem in fact the challenge is definitely more fair than in dmc3. If you love outlandish games like Killer 7 you'll love this one. The game has unbelievable bosses the first one being two gay guys who ram their asses into you yelling:Whip it good! and if you weaken female opponents in a fight you can spank them so hard that you catapult them out of your lap,there are midgets an ,Elvis demon and much more crazy shit throughout. I haven't read the criminal review by Ign but I will just for shits and giggles ,get the game srsly!

The original Yakuza game is trash. You fight camera and clunky controls more than you fight your enemies. Have you tried to reach the rooftop in chapter 10? Fighting the secret boss (by completing 72 side quests) is so fun. Wow... premium fun. Staring at a wall while being stunlocked to oblivion from out of screen fun. Did somebody test this game? I think all new players should skip the first one.
