18:53 it's just the biggest city in Pakistan, right on the coast of the eastern Arabic Sea. It's a 24 million people metropolitan area, with skyrocketing crime. It would actually be the perfect place for a hero/vigilante to set up shop. They'd never run out of baddies to catch.

I actually agree with Thorias' statement at the begining of the video; Ms Marvel has LITERALLY 3 defining traits as a character: being Pakistani... being an Inhuman... and being a Captain Marvel fangirl. NONE of that are ACTUAL character traits and - given what Thorias said (I don't watch the show nor do I intent to) - this episode pretty much proves it. I mean think about it: she's not an Inhuman, because she's from another dimension. Since she's from another dimension, that basically means she's not Pakistani either. The show has pretty much taken away 2/3 of her character (her powers are different too by the way) and it means NOTHING. This is why new characters in comics (and in media in general) DON'T work: they're notactual characters. They are vessels for agenda, which is the main reason why they receive mixed reception at best. Ms Marvel IS not a popular character; there is fairly little of interest in her because she was not created as a character. In the show there's virtually nothing of her "defining" traits. This is how inconsequential these "defining traits" really are. If you take away Spiderman's sense of responsibility, then he becomes a very different character... if you take away Iron Man's ego, he becomes a very different character... if you take Batman's code away, he becomes - well, what he was at the very begining of his publication :D... the show proves that Ms Marvel - as a character - does not actually have something like this. At least that's my opinion on the matter.

I was watching this a full MARVEL STAN friend whos read all the comics and put me on the show. I have Pakistani friends but this friend isn’t that. when the wedding dance was happening , i was talking about the traditional dances and he deadpan looked at me and said “I don’t want to hear about that, please stop”. It was so eye opening because even the biggest marvel Stan’s are tired.

The villians' motivation was weak in my opinion. They considered Kamala making them wait to be "betrayal", like wut? I could see if she flat out refused to help them at all, but she literally said "I need more time". Unless they introduce a reason why it needed to happen right now, the motivation is weak sauce.

Yeah that was rushed bad writing. One minute Namja (Kamran's mom) is sympathetic and nice to Kamala, and simply just needs her help to cross over back to her homeworld The next minute she's spying on Kamran's texts and is like 'Imma kill this bitch' lol Like suddenly theres no time left to do this. Suddenly they have full agency to go full villain on her like their own lives depend on it. Why? It was poorly explained (or not explained really) Funny thing is, Doctor's Strange's Sanctum Sanctorium house is right across the East River in Manhattan which would literally be a 30 minute ride over to; and all they woulda had to do is ask for his help and he woulda said (after AW HELL NO NOT ANOTHER TEENAGER COMING TO BOTHER ME) would been (after reopening the front door her just shut on them), "hey I happen to know a teenage girl that can cross dimensions; heres her number give her a call" and problem solved lol Thing is, Feige dont want "a WHITE man coming in to save the day" (unless its in Spider-Man or his own Dr. Strange 2 movie), which was the same problem of Strange not showing up to help Wanda in Wandavision even though that woulda made perfect sense, and those weird commercials Wanda was having in the Hex was actually supposed to be Strange reaching out to her, but yeah, Male Feminist Feige cant have a man mansplaining Wanda her powers or helping a Pakistani girl the next town over lol

I think Kamala is a character that would work better in an ensemble cast rather than a standalone project. I still think you should review Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. If Batwoman was hell, and Ms. Marvel is mid then AoS is really great (once you get past the first few episodes).

@@thatonkgau5221 Why? He's literally just black Peter Parker. Or as Eric July/YoungRippa calls him, "Peter Darker". Ripper's does a ton of breakdowns on Miles through the years worth checking out. the only thing unique about Miles is that he was the first tokenized replacement character in modern history. Not a sidekick. Not "inspired by". He was the first tokenized character literally created to be a replacement for the original. That makes Miles the one who paved the way for Kamala Khan and Riri Williams and Kate Bishop and Rey Skywalker and all the rest. He established "the formulae" for how to attempt it. That alone is reason enough to dislike him. Because he was the first and had some halfway decent writing (far, FAR from "good" but at least competent in a "basic bitch storytelling" sort of way, to borrow a phrase from Thorias) he was able to slide in while our guard was down. Then he was largely forgotten until the Spider-Verse cartoon and suddenly everyone loves Miles...because he's got that flavor-of-the-month swag again and Disney is willing to flush millions of dollars down the drain trying to push him as Peter's replacement. But he can't replace Peter. Because he's just another bargain bin wannabe. Ironically, he has all the core elements needed to BECOME a good character if they would just give him his own identity and stop trying to replace Peter with him. Like, it's so pathetic that anytime you want to talk about Miles Morales you literally have to say "Miles Morales". Because if you try to talk about "Spider-Man" everyone thinks you're talking about Peter Parker. Even Ben Reilly had the good sense to forge his own identity...and he might legitimately be the ORIGINAL Peter Parker. 😂 That's how little respect Marvel has for Miles, that they won't give him his own identity. If they don't care enough about him to give him his own identity, why should any of us care about him at all?

Thats all she ever was. A self-insert for Sana Amanat. Someone who literally failed upwards in the comic industry with barely any experience hired to a top position at Marvel, coming off a 2 year job at an indie comic book company (Virgin comics now rebranded as Liquid Comics, which was created by Richard Branson of Virgin and Indian American author Deepak Chopra to focus on telling South Asian oritented stories) which had shut down entirely as Branson pulled the financial backing plug on it, so they had to move their NY division to LA and rebrand themselves as Liquid Comics in 2008, so she approached by Marvel exec in 2009 just cause Marvel was bought by Disney by then so they had started their own diversity push as they saw Richard Branson doing it with Virgin Comics so they scouted her, and also because she had connections from her wealthy NJ family and brother who had ties to Hollwood elite but also got in trouble for some embezzlement

Just on the wedding thing, from what little I know if they are actually properly religious Muslims they would need to marry to sleep together. I hold the same beliefs and I am sure that would be a powerful motivator But then again, I never really accepted the idea of waiting to get married until you sort out your job/education etc. Being married won't do anything to stop you from doing all those things so why wait? Especially if it is a significant thing you actually want to do for love and so on. If you just plain do not want to marry your partner, whatever. But if you do, well the majority of objections seem to be about the wedding and not the marriage and for me the wedding is the single least important part of the marriage. For me the wedding is the necessary weasel to get to the good bit of being a husband or wife Completely random comment. Love the review

I liked episode 1 a lot. The main girl’s acting is a breath of fresh air, she’s amazing! She’d be sick as Spider Girl or something. Her training and learning her powers was well done… The first episode is definitely better then Obi, Hawkeye, and that wacko Spider man movie!(featuring the biggest CRY BABY SPIDER MAN in history) I have never seen a male cry so many times through three movies, absolutely awful!) Mouth Of Madness could have been awesome if it wasn’t for a convoluted story and woke ideology…

The thing is, Ms Marvel was the switch up that the progressive readership could point too. Never mind Dust, a proud burka wearing Muslim, from the X-men existed but for mainstream their woke moment. Yet on a channel where that shit is normal, it's obvious that unless they do more the show is going to be boring.

1:46 I still say it's because they don't have the budget to focus on superheroics. They may have one or two expensive episodes at the end, but they have to stretch that budget out.

Its only 6 episodes and apparently the budget is 150 million which is par and parcel for the other Disney+ show budgets (except for Wandavision; that one was around 280 million but 8 episodes, and Obi-Wan was the cheapest at 100 million but also 6 episodes) so do the division math. 30 million an episode if you were to stretch it out evenly. Most normal TV shows have a budget of 1 to 2 million per episode which have to be done over an entire season so usually +20 episodes.. Thats why when I see people try to defend Disney+ shows that look 'cheap' or are shot poorly, when they say 'its just a TV show', thats a BS excuse because they are not the same as TV shows, They are basically mini series with movie budgets. I think a lot of the budget was spent on the mosque lol Look up the Fox Theater in Atlanta Georgia. Its a performance stage theater there that was built in the 20's to resemble arabian temples. The entire show was filmed in 2020 in Atlanta Georgia. The indoor mosque scenes were filmed at a mosque (I think its called Islamic institute of Atlanta or something dont quote me) during lockdown, but the Fox Theater was redone with CGI and prop sets to resemble a mosque. The traditional Mosque rooftop was a prop designed for the show and the tower which the child nearly fell out of (who btw was also the one who stole Nakia's sneakers check his feet), was also a CGI scene and a prop made. The Fox Theater also has a traditional movie theater box awning that was CGI removed as well as a hanging Fox sign to the right that was also removed, and the inside stage was redesigned to look like the front entrance of the mosque with sidewalk, street, parked cars, windows and everything ether done with props or CGI'd in. Its actually the most impressive thing about this show design wise to me.

The problem with this series so far is that it's the "secret life of a muslim teenager from new jersey" with superhero stuff awkwardly inserted. I'm down watching a more socially focused series about a muslim girl and how she navigates simple stuff with a bit drama and not the superhero djinni bullshit they make up.
