I love how Thorin legit listened to Bilbo and remembered everything he said. Even when he was dying he thought of the talks he and Bilbo shared and cared for Bilbo.

Now it's over, Thorin is gone, Fili is gone, Kili is gone. This song means so much to me. It embodies my grief for the lose of this wonderful world and all it contained. My only wish, would be to be able to go with Thorin and Company on their quest. Thank you for making this wonderful video. Thank you Peter Jackson for making it visual. Ok. I don't know where else to post this, but I'm having both thoughts and feels about the relationship between Bilbo and Thorin, and wanted to point out and explain how VERY EFFING SIGNIFICANT some details are in the films about their friendship/relationship/whatever you believe. First of all: "I'm not afraid of Thorin." Let's analyze this quote with some background here - Bilbo is the only person who doesn't view Thorin as a king, but just as himself, a man(dwarf) equal to any other, but great in honor and spirit. The rest of the dwarves love Thorin, but they love him as a leader, which means they will never fully understand his vulnerabilities - but Bilbo, humble though he is, treats Thorin like anyone else, and thus gets to know his fears and insecurities and weaknesses as well as his strengths. Bilbo is the only one who really KNOWS Thorin by the end. When he says he's not afraid of Thorin, he doesn't mean "I'm not afraid because I can take him on", he means "I'm not afraid of Thorin because I understand him and I love him, and I know how he works." Thorin's relationship with Bilbo is the deepest and most equal he has probably had in all his life. Second: "It is some trick. They take us for fools" - or something like that, when Bard presents the Arkenstone. At this point, we must remember that Thorin is overtaken with the dragon sickness, plus his insatiable thirst to retrieve the heart of the mountain - he is at the peak of madness, and upon seeing the Arkenstone, would immediately know that it's really there, and do anything within his power to obtain it. But something stops him. Not the fear that he is being tricked - he knows what the arkenstone looks like, he knows it's really there - but even through the depths of madness, he refuses to believe it because that would mean Bilbo betrayed him. The last thing he holds out for is Bilbo's loyalty, even against the one thing he went there to get. Third: It is worth noting that what draws him out of his madness alone in the chamber of molten gold is, at the end, only his own assertion that he "isn't his grandfather" - and Bilbo questioning his honor. Of all the voices in his head, it's Bilbo's disappointment in him that defeats his lust for gold. Fourth: "Plant your trees. Watch them grow." Not only is this a heartbreaking moment of Thorin wishing Bilbo a long life, one that he can no longer have himself, but it reflects his understanding of Bilbo's character. Thorin saw only destruction in this battle, saw only destruction in his youth, and only death and destruction and loss most of his life - but here came Bilbo, a beacon of hope, someone who plants things and makes them grow. Someone who sees the best in other people, who believes in good winning and finding a peaceful answer to everything, someone who is going to make the world better - because he made Thorin's world better. He planted hope in Thorin and made it grow when there was no hope left. That's why Bilbo is the perfect foil to Thorin's darkness and the perfect person for Thorin to have met and befriended and loved. End rant. Cue tears.

Already 9 years ago since I was hearing this video, giving to me so many emotion and sadness, for two things, the first that it was the end of my favorite trilogy The Hobbit, with the Lord of The Rings and it was a second terrible farewell and second thing it is because I was younger and I had a really complicated teenage years, I closed myself off and lived only for the world of the Hobbits...! ^^' It really helps me in these difficults times and today I grew up, some things are better, some are worst but I try to continue my adventure but one thing has never changed and will never change, it's my love for the two trilogy of Peter Jackson, who after all these years, means many for me, always the most epic, emotive movies that I've ever seen in all my life, so Thanks Peter Jackson for my favorite movies and also Thank you J.R.R Tolkien to be the writer of the best story to me, all time and forever !! My favorite thing to see in any sort of book or movie or TV show is a character who was once part of a happy family but their family died or left them in some way, so the character finds some way to cope (probably by cutting themself off from others). Then I wait in agony as they forget how to love or care for anything. But then the best part: when someone starts caring for them and the character discovers that maybe they didn't forget how to love because here they are and they would die for this other someone. Slow burn friendship all the way.

+Drew Darr i think everyone should be allowed to view the relationship between these two characters the way they want to, may that be friendship or romance or something else. i'm so sick of people telling others to stop viewing two fictional characters as gay, like that would make the relationship any less significant or special or important. there shouldn't be a limit or restriction to it, just because they both happen to be male (also the books and the movies are so different from each other, especially in regard to thorin's and bilbo's relationship)
@nwgrizzlies1110 жыл бұрын
Just in the way Tolkien wrote the books displays that they are not gay. And I feel like it can be distrustful to the author to think of it in another way. Thorin and Bible's relationship reminds me of Frodo and Sam's and niether of them were gay. Just don't disrespect what the author wrote and do not twist his ideas into something else. If I was an author and people started twisting my ideas I would be upset. But it is a great video
@tomriddle114210 жыл бұрын
Drew Darr Have you seen the way Thorin looks at Bilbo? Sam doesn't look at Frodo the same way
@Dreamstarr7710 жыл бұрын
Drew Darr You seem to have misread the books , Even Tolkien admitted there were undertones of homosexuality even though they were unintended he actually hated those undertones since the books were written to portray how much he hated non-white people (the two towers were based on high rise flats where minorities were housed) Orcs themselves represented black people in his world.
@BreakingMyBack10 жыл бұрын
Drew Darr just gunna jump on in here for a sec. Once a work has been released to the public, like The Hobbit or Lord of the Rings, it becomes susceptible to interpretation. So while Tolkien might not have intended to write any undertones or themes, it doesn't change the fact that people have picked up on them. There is no absolute "right" way to read a text, everyone approaches a novel differently, meaning there are multiple interpretations, some weaker and some stronger. This is especially true with the genre of Fantasy, which leaves tons of room for multiple interpretations. You just have to be prepared to defend and argue your stance. You're allowed to think that Sam/Frodo and Thorin/Bilbo were good friends, the same way people can interpret them as being something more. The author could scream to the high heavens about what they wanted to get across in their novel, but once it's out there they can’t control how the text is received. Sure, the author could influence interpretations; a good example of this would be JK Rowling, years after she published the final book, confessed that "Harry should have married Hermione." Does that change anything? Nope. You could either listen to her, and read closely into the Harry/Hermione relationship (something people have been doing well before her intervention), or you could completely ignore her. You, as a reader, have the freedom of interpretation to do so. Tolkien might have hated the undertones of homosexuality (btw is there a source on this?), and might have been upset at people “twisting his ideas”, but it doesn't really matter in the end, people have the option to read into or not.
@HMACDONALD6910 жыл бұрын
Tom Riddle I wish I could like this about 100 times. I agree with you, Thorin often looks at Bilbo like a lover.( And I am not talking about how Tolkien described the relationship in the book) I think Peter Jackson made Thorin and Bilbo's relationship very different in the movie. (As he deviated with many other plot points from the book) Nothing ugly or wrong with them loving each other in more then a platonic way. And who knows, with the number of gay males cast for this movie, it is possible Jackson wanted a bit of underlying romantic love to be perceived between the two male leads. (Just an opinion someone else's thought might be totally different )

I come watching this video once a day seriously. The work you put into this with this song is absolutely perfect. I've had been in my bed at night thinking '' I should watch that video again '' The last Hobbit movie truely will be in my heart for a very long time. FML 😭😭😭 My reaction of Thorin's death was after I was out of the movie theaters. Like at first I thought the Hobbit was boring because I didn't watch it all. Then I didn't even see TDS and I went to see BoFA in the theaters. So throughout the movie I was kind of confused because I didn't know the storyline. But this movie caught my interest and I immediately fell in love with it, thorin, bilbo, the dwarves, gandalf, EVERYTHING. So when the ending came around I was like...blank. I didn't really process what had happened until I got into my car. Then I broke down in my car and just cursed the author for making such a beautiful story and for hitting me hard in the heart. But I read fanfics 😂 and there are some (most of them) that have happy endings so that makes up for everything 😂

Coming full circle today. Graduated college after 6 years many delays and setbacks. Sitting here before I leave off into the greater world again one of my personal favorite videos and to learn of sleeping at last

Oh my god, this video is just perfect!!! :'/ It's so sad... I totally love them and I'll never recover from what happened in BOTFA... Now I can't think about other things for the whole evening :'( Thank you so much for uploading, I've never seen such a perfect Thorin & Bilbo vid.

Uwaaah! Found this video again after all these years, and it -still- makes me cry at the end!! 😭 ”He was my friend”. Such an emotional video that really captures the true relationship between Bilbo and Thorin, how well they complemented each other and were the other’s other half

thx to the video also it was a good movie but it ended just like the book.thorin fought and tried so hard to get his home back but in the end it proved he kept his honor and strength to defend those precious to him.

Thank you so very much for sharing your wonderful editing skills with the world. I downloaded a copy ages ago and have it one my phone for when the mood strikes, but I happened across a link while looking through old bookmarks, and here I am, 4.5 years later, still as emotional as when you first posted this. I hope all is well with you!
