Why does skill decay as players get older?
@bareyeelos24175 жыл бұрын
ody vinty* I don’t think it has specifically something to do with aging, simply that when players get older they have other obligations like family etc which will detract from practicing time and motivation
@KingOfBlades275 жыл бұрын
You get older your reactiontime gets slower.
@valitsemllaluokanavahyvaks35565 жыл бұрын

@brandonmoore94405 жыл бұрын
@KingOfBlades27 while that is true your reaction times will get worse with age you are not going to diminish where you can't play csgo at 30 years old that's just foolish look at fallen he's 27 still a very good player Forest he's 30(he's up and down but his skill is still very high) so I don't think that's the problem the problem I think is that a lot of players that were good in the earlier years of csgo did not have the competition as far as talent goes in 2012-2014 as it is now so the skill ceiling to be a pro was lower back then and some of these pros like pasha wouldn't even have the skill to be in a top tier team if they started their career now as apposed to back when they did and then you also have the issue where someone like pasha has made over 600K in prize pool money alone not including how ever many months/years he was making 20-30k on VP so while they may not come out and say it (or even believe it) subconsciously they have made a lot of money and desire just probably isn't there to compete at a high level anymore since realistically they have enough money to do whatever like go to school and get a high paying job or just coast for a few years and then do something like that.

i agree wtih the definition of dont retire for csgo pro. i mean its fine if u go to lower level team or do something related to csgo i.e streamer, analyst, host, coach, manager, interviewer, etc but if u know u cant shoot like a decent pro just dont join top tier team n try to be the in game support or igl. the reason i said that because the space within the team is not big. just 5 players per team. if u really bad at shooting ur role in team doesnt matter anymore. just imagine a situation where all other teammate is dead already, do u really expect this guy who bad at shooting to get a clean shot to clutch it?? even its a 1v1 u dont expect more out of him. u just HOPE for the best that he can win it.

I like how Thorin makes a long video roasting Skadoodle and C9's management for keeping him around too long, then uses Skadoodle as an example as someone who retired too soon due to peer pressure... what the fuck.
@every1165 жыл бұрын
Thorin's argument here is that players should never retire until they wither want to or are forced too. Thorin is also a big advocate for "Cut a player too early instead of too late" for the most elite teams. This isn't contradictory, just because he was a critic of C9 keeping Skadoodle on their roster doesn't mean he thinks that Skadoodle should leave CSGO entirely. He kind of implies as much here, like in his example when MJ went to play for the Wizards instead of the Bulls in his aging years, or the ex-VP players playing for lesser Polish organizations instead of trying to pretend they can remain at the very top any longer. He's not criticizing the players for continuing to play the game that they love, but he will criticize an org for keeping a player that is clearly past the point where they can perform at their peak potential.

Retire from C9 not the game
@m4dalex4785 жыл бұрын
Wait a minute, I am confused.. Didn't Thorin wish that Skadoodle never comes back to Cloud9 in a previous video? Well Cloud9 was the best gig for Skadoodle then and he stayed as much as possible.. Why was Thorin so much more "aggressive" against Ska's decision to stay but now says "Stay until someone has the balls to actually fire you"?? Having asked that, as a sincere question, I agree with the idea of not retiring because of external pressure, it is your life and career you should retire when the fuck you actually want to!

When you're as bad as smithzz it's definitely time to retire, I'd say that's a fairly reasonable cutoff point. To be fair nobody in the current 30 year old pro range is nearly that bad, so they definitely can still do something useful in the game if they still have the desire. But unfortunately someone like zeus is definitely close to that range, and he himself said that 2019 will be the last year he plays professionally, so it's probably a good time to retire for him.

@@Zcollard31 Thanks for clarifying. I understood it differently, he didn't mean it never happens but it only works as a narrative and is quite unsatisfying for the athlete because he thinks he could've still accomplished more. At least that's how I understood it. There are quite a few cases, I just listed one where the athlete was unhappy with it.
@Zcollard315 жыл бұрын
@@the_bottomfragger With Ray Lewis, he was degrading in his ability to play the game...but like Thorinn talked about he brought something else to the table which was leadership for the Baltimore Ravens. He got out of the game because he was getting a new injury every season for like 3 straight seasons, anything he would of put further into Football would of just been degrading his quality of life later in life, something Esports players don't have to take into account because the game isn't physically demanding.
@sceezer84405 жыл бұрын
i dont get why skills HAS to decay with age. sako is arguably a top 5-10 street fighter player in the world and he's 40. i would agrue fighting games are mechanically harder than something like league. especially for someone like sako who is known as an execution god and going hard combos. i've said this before, but maybe its the team aspect that makes playing for decades harder in other e-sports. the stress of having to live in a teamhouse with people you might not like on a personal level for years probably takes its toll.
@byte10115 жыл бұрын
Esports change dramatically compared to sports. With experience, it becomes harder to learn new things and change your style. A new player doesn't have the legacy of an old style or outdated habits they need to undo first.
