I serviced and sold dozens of TX9 and 10 sets back in ye olden days and they were brilliant. The TX100 and 90 series were pretty good too, aside from the appetite for line o/p transformers. The subsequent Thomson Ferguson ICC series sets, however, were sent from Hell to drive service engineers to drink or into the asylum. Ghastly, evil things...

Yes my friend, it was all good until Thomson got their hands on it. Sad to see what became of Thorn/BRC 👍

Loved my TX. The picture was sharper with the tuner tray hanging out and yes the cover fell off as well. This was my telly when at Uni in the late 80s-early 90s. The case had a squeaky thin plasticy feel.

Thanks Sexton, it was a bit of a protracted video but I got there in the end. Next is to sort the width.

@@sextonmallard3325 It's a mesr-100. There about 30-40 quid, also doubles up as a low ohms meter.

I haven't heard that term for years, 'That tube still has some life left in it", I miss those days, I'm a TV engineer of 30 years, from TX 9s and 10s and G11s!! to the LED Backlight era.. Can you adjust the width out ? The east west looks ok.. Great stuff.

Hi, haven't looked at this since. I'd say a few caps needs replacing to get the width out, the ht was correct. Thanks for subscribing 👍

I am working on a TX9 at the moment, I need to replace the power smoothing capacitor. The one in my set is 500+500uf @175V. I am having trouble finding a replacement. I think its 2 capacitors in one can. Do you know where I can get one ?

@IrishvintageTVRadio

Hello Adam, TVs are based on electronics so you need a basic understanding of electronics, identify different components, circuits, read circuit diagrams, etc. There are forums on the Internet and so on. It's certainly possible to learn how to do it. Perhaps starting with building a transistor radio and going from there.

When checking those caps in circuit , how does one determine that the signal from the esr meter isnt going through another component somewhere? Are you just looking for a complete open circuit cap when you check them in circuit? Thanks
