I like Silvanberries, but I haven't found a thornless plant yet. :)

What do they taste like and are they as good as a raspberry and do they produce more fruit than a raspberry? I have a raspberry bush which I wished produced more berries. Perhaps I need to put lots of sulphate of potash on it. Does loganberry taste like a cross between a blackberry and raspberry from which they are the parents.

The thornless loganberries produce very little fruit, but they taste amazing so it's worth it and have a flavour profile similar to raspberry. The bonus is they take up very little room. They don't sucker like rasberries, I have noted 1-2 suckers on a 10 year old plant. Raspberries grow sucker prolifically! They are a good plant for a slightly shaded area and are easier to train than raspberries, as they are more like a vine than a cane in growth habit.

@@karensutherland-edibleeden1916 I might see if they are available at my local nursery. I’m guessing they’ll be good for a cooler climate which for 9 months of the year it is here.

Do birds love them?do you have to net it?

Hi Kimberley, yes birds love the berries and they do need to be netted, clothes pegs help to keep the net secure.

When you say the vine can be trained, are you staking or trellising? How is it best managed? Thanks for the video, very helpful 👍

Hi @cuttinglooselivinglife, the vines are interwined through a metal trellis if they are still felxible enough to do so, or they can also be tied onto a fence or metal trellis with soft biodegradeable ties. That way the ties can be composted with the vines later. Vines can also be trained along or between strands of fencing wire pulled taut between posts. This helps keep the vine at a height to make picking easier and prevent unwanted layering which may occur if the vine trails on the ground.
