I justify the extreme strengths as how the Viking Sagas were very exaggerated the same way this Saga is also exaggerated
@blackakbar2 ай бұрын
yeah, that's the point. People often don't understand that some mystical things like inhuman strength and some miracles are just convention of the genre. Sagas are basically an epos. Based on true stories, personas, events, but a little exaggerated, because no one would be interested to read a story about heroes without any features.

I feel like acknowledging this fact adds a lot to the series

Askeladd threw his empty horn of alcohol at the doorway as a signal to Bjorn that there is something amiss in the negotiation.

Sometimes a loss changes a man. Sometimes gaining something too changes one. Contemplation is the name of the game with this show, and it keeps. Getting. BETTER.

In regards to Thor's giant boat-paddle, I think you're all right on they money about this show's setting/art being a bit fantastical, but still rooted in a history. It's got a small number of characters based on historical figures. Looking forward to the rest of this season and maybe Season 2.
@SeanTanktop2 ай бұрын
yeah, it's just anime-ing, like we need to show how incredibly strong this dude is, and in congress withy the historical setting it comes off a touch funny.

Regarding the redcap mushroom that Bjorn (the big berserker warrior) eats: there has been a common theory that berserkers would consume some form of psychedelic to induce their famed battle-rage, specifically mushrooms or Henbane. Some other theories suggest that they simply did a pre-battle meditation to put themselves into a high-adrenaline state, basically psyching themselves up to an extreme point. A good example in recent media of that theory is in "The Northman". These theories are just conjecture, though; we have no real way of knowing the truth on this specific topic, until we find direct archeological evidence about it.

I've also heard a theory that it's a miss-translation of bare-shirters. They were just dude that fought shirtless and didn't have any fantastical battle-rage. We'll never know.
@tarakolindo2 ай бұрын
@@ColinsComments I've seen that theory, yeah. It's arguably the most likely, even if the battle-rage is more romantic. Though, for me the most interesting thing about berserkers has always been their nearly shamanistic role in society, it's a fun juxtaposition to a lot of the old stereotypes

The village that Askeladd and Floki were meeting in (where we were using the priest for target practice) was in the Faroe Islands, which is also where the ambush takes place. I'd say it's pretty likely the both scenes take place at the same village. These first three episodes all came out at the same time when the anime first aired, so I guess you could look at them as one rather long intro episode in a way. Then there was a three week wait for episode four to come out, and even though I had read the manga the wait was absolutely brutal.

In regards to the piss-fish, there is actually a Icelandic delicacy called Hákarl. It is a poisonous shark that is buried and pissed on for months, and then eaten. The funny thing is, the shark meat is poisonous unless buried and pissed on for months, and a few people die yearly from improperly pissed-on shark.
