Anjin never returns to England. When he attempted seppuku he was reborn, this was why there was a flashback to his dream and timeline. His earlier dream was to return to England. Now he has embraced being there. When he puts Mariko's rosary into the water, he has let go of the past and focuses on the new, unknown future. The Dream of a Dream.... In the book, when he attempts seppuku (in a different scene and time), he is reborn a true samurai and hatamoto in reality, not just in name. Also, at Yabu's seppuku scene, Toranaga essentially tells Yabu that he was correct. Toranaga's ultimate goal was always to be Shogun. That is why he gives a slight grin to Yabu at the end. In addition, "why tell a dead man the future" was confirmation of this. This is the line Yabu told Omi in the first episode. Toranaga always knew and always had a plan that could bend and reset with the wind...

We did meet Mariko's son earlier in the show - there was a scene when he and Mariko were eating dinner and laughing and Buntaro walks in and says something like "You're teaching him to laugh just like a little girl".

Such a great adaptation. Nailed the tension, intrigue, and reveals. The novel is a masterpiece and this lives up to it as well as anything ever could.

38:30 Fallout 76’s $12/month subscription just adds some things like extra storage, game currency, and free cosmetic item skins, it’s not necessary to actually play the game. I’ve been playing on and off since launch and while it still has some issues, it’s a really good game right now.

It wasn't a flash forward. That was the significance of showing the cross in the vision of a future and him throwing it into the ocean, negating the veracity of the vision. Whenever you saw that vision he was asleep dreaming it. This show is based on historical events. Toranaga is Tokugawa Ieyasu. John Blackthorne is William Adams. You can look up what happens next. William Adams never left Japan. The Tokugawa Shogunate last for like 246 years. A peaceful time.

i love how the charge and the music with the flaming swords and everything is hyping us all up so much we forget what show we're watching, until we're reminded by it when the dead destroys both our hopes for our characters survival and the dothraki army

Old John back in England was his dream. He gave up on it, literally turns his face from it, in the seppuku scene. He never leaves Japan.

It was the point at which Blackthorne was ready to commit seppuku, when he finished with his "possible future". It was all just visions, a "dream within a dream". The real "Blackthorne" ( William Adams ) became the first and only European to be elevated to the rank of samurai and one of the closest advisors at the court of Shōgun "Toronaga"( Tokugawa Iyeasu). He never traveled to Europe again, married a Japanese woman and had two children. He sent letters and alimony to his English family at certain intervals. He offered the Shōgun his services as an expert in shipbuilding, as a navigator, with his knowledge of European politics and as someone who could speak several languages. The Shōgun then decided that his "old" self was now dead and that he should live on "anew" as Miura Anjin( 三浦 按針 ). Great Reaction and best regards

A really cool thing about the final episode: the scene where the ashes are scattered was done a lake in British Columbia. Years earlier, it was at that lake that James Clavell's ashes were scattered. His daughter was there when they filmed the scene, and the symetrry blew her away.

i dont rly understand why kyiama suddenly cared about mariko not dying a honorable christian death. until now (even in the same ep no lless) they only painted him as a money chaser who sees no value in christianity other than the gold. and out the blue hes the driving emotional force of the christian conflicted on the other side? jarring

When Yabushige commits seppuku, he turns back towards Toranaga and a small smile forms on Toranaga’s face. I think that was Toranaga telling him that he did always want to be Shogun.

From what I've seen people who know there history are skeptical that they could make 5 episodes more. Its like 1 battle and then 100 years of peace and prosperity. Not much room for conflict during peace
@dept308
@dept308 4 сағат бұрын
@@jongodsey8472 100 years of peace and prosperity is a bit of an exaggeration, there's been few conflicts here and there with those who are not exactly keen with "Toranaga" being the shogun, I think it was the Shimazu or the Mori clan who were most pissed offed by "Toranaga" He even had confrontations with the heir and his mother years later after the big battle. Another 2 seasons is definitely doable. They have the history to look into for inspiration. Just like the books.
@KINGSUNA
@KINGSUNA 16 минут бұрын
@@jongodsey8472 There is plenty of source material to work with, and numerous other novels and film about the years that follow. The next season can show the actual Battle of Sekigahara all the events leading up to it that are immensely complex and intricate - the battle itself is fascinating, and the season after that can cover the Battle for Osaka Castle where the Heir and Ochiba ultimately go to war with Toranaga/Tokugawa. The Tokugawa/Toranaga dynasty ended up being 250 years of relative peace.

"why tell a dead man the future". Great callback from epidode 1. Either Omi or that squire was also spying for Toranaga.
@tehdipstick

I don't think Omi was being a double agent for Toranaga the entire time, but after wrestling with his conscience, questioning what it meant to be loyal, and talking to Kiki during their time in Edo, that's probably when he decided that his loyalty to Toranaga overrode his loyalty to Yabushige, and that supporting Toranaga was the wiser choice in the long run.

I love the unnecessary aesthetic of the Mad Max universe. they're all barely surviving yet they take time to make fancy masks and decorate themselves with feathers and fur and carefully manufactured ornamental metal spikes and shit. I was a huge Mad Max fan when I was little and when I was a teenager I saw Tank Girl and said "they're style is so Mad Max" --the vibe is "we're constantly 2 minutes from dying but we look cool"
