This song was extremely hard for Billie to sing, especially the ending where there is no music and she sighs heavily. It’s because she had just gotten the news that one of her dear friends had been murdered but she needed to finish recording the song due to pressure to get the record finalized, that ending bit when she sighed was because she was crying during the recording and trying to keep it together. Finneas thought it was an absolutely beautiful take and kept it in, even though she was absolutely devastated. It was ironic that she was singing about how hard it was to be friends with and love people who care for their lives so little that they risked OD’ing and killing themselves, only to be told mid recording that someone she loved had been murdered. Xanny was also the first music video Billie had directed herself.

In the documentary There were scenes where her label people were pushing back on this, kind of saying she shouldn't put out an anti drug song for fear she might regret it later on. Maggie was right there saying it's Billie's vision and that's what they are going with.

I liked the line "to inebriated to feel scared.". For me, I took it 2 ways: 1. Xanax is a benzodiazapine drug used to treat certain anxiety or panic disorders. So they are supposed to "make you feel less anxious/scared.". However as with all drugs they come with side effects, the idea is the positive effects should out way the negative effects. 2. Abuse of these drugs can have serious side effects (Billie points out a few). And can ruin the lives of those involved, both the person taking the drug and their friends and family. As with all substances, " the dose makes the poison.". Great reaction, guys, as always

Who on earth told you this had a happy vibe or thing going for it... even the bass is there to make you feel uncomfortable in the chorus. There's a lot of depth, and Xanny is another name for Xanax which i believe is a strong anti-anxiety pill that people often take to either get high on or numb the pain, but also people commonly overdose on it...

Rather than my usual long list of songs you have/have not yet done, I'll go for a shorter list of more "high energy" songs (insane long comment will be back next time!) - Copycat (from the first EP): Copycat's a weird one because there's no official video. The studio version is incredibly high energy. The live version from the Mahogany Sessions is amazing and is an acoustic cover of just her and Finneas. I would highly recommend doing both because it's genuinely like two separate songs. It's not long so you could fit it in one video or just do them both. - My Boy (First EP) -When I was Older (single) -Bad (Michael Jackson cover) or End of the World (cover for BBC 1 Radio) both have fun live-music energy. - I didn't change my number, Billie Bossa Nova, Oxytocin, My Future, Lost Cause (Second album).

In the Billie doc, her mom yells at her about this song. Billie looked her mom dead in the eye (at 16yo) & said fuck it, this is how I feel about it right now so I'm gonna express myself & fuck everyone else. & her mom backed off.

It's not her Mum, it's someone in Billies management team who says she might not have the same stance. It's her Mum that argues with that person saying she is being kept safe by them so she doesn't have those problems and that she can make this point now and show where she stands on it and can't not put it out just in the off chance she ever does something later on. Her Mum has her back, she's not against them putting it out, she's annoyed at the team member for saying they shouldn't just incase they ever do change their mind. (I just rewatched the scene to double check I remembered it right)
