How I loved going to the City when I was a kid. It was a special day out. Now it's an ordeal that I avoid at all costs. Haven't been in town for years. Thanks for all these wonderful memories !!

@@lestki Ah !! Cole's Cafeteria. What a treat!! Small half pint bottle of chocolate milk and pie and crinkly hot chips.( I think the pies might've been Herbert Adam's, it was in tinfoil?). In NSW they closed at 10pm so in the border towns there was a great flow of cars northwards at 6pm and a great flow southwards at 10pm. Breathalyzers were not a thing in those days.

There should be a test for all the new Australians including a question on how to walk down the street in Australia. Some train stations have notices or arrows indicating keep left but on footpaths it is every man for himself. I heard an Australian announcer on ABC radio saying he had never heard about keeping left. Fines for distracted walking might save me a lot of bruises. It is amusing that people who meander all over the place not looking will abuse the person they walk into for not getting out of their way.

Re the pub at 01:40, years ago K.L. Ballantyne Pty Ltd (manufacturing of food goods) had a factory at 295-303 Grant Street, South Melbourne. The pub might be the London Tavern Hotel that was once on the corner of Grant and Moray Streets South Melbourne. That area is now occupied by the end of the Westgate Freeway. Love the old Melbourne stuff.
